Around him the whole staff managed a large, formal party with a professionalism and sophistication that are rare anywhere and looked effortless here -- a cocktail hour that actually flowed, courses that arrived together for 45 people without a hitch, and servers who knew the menu cold and were warm without being familiar. The food was everything the reputation promises. The Turtle Soup deserves every word written about it -- our group came from Los Angeles, and I'm not sure most of us had ever had a bowl of soup that silenced a table. The Pecan Crusted Gulf Fish and the Tournedos of Black Angus Beef were superb, and the Bread Pudding Soufflé is a finish no one forgets.
