We are moving out of our apartment and have a number of goods (sofa, table, chairs, etc) that we need to get rid of. We were hoping to sell or exchange them with Best Used Furniture. I called and asked if they would be interested in coming over to check out our goods. "Absolutely!" I was told and that they would be over on Monday evening. Monday evening rolls around, my wife and I are packing for our move. The appointment time comes and goes. No one shows. No one calls. Finally after repeated phone calls to Hugo we are told "I'm sorry we have so much going on, I can't make it. Tomorrow night, I give you my word." We must get rid of these goods, so wife and I cancel our plans for the next night. Again, waiting around. The appointed time comes and goes....no show, no call. Again, repeated phone calls to Hugo and Best Used Furniture. This time no answer at all. I call the next day and get a string of excuses. Finally we reschedule a third time for Thursday morning. We are inconvenienced, yet again but figure out a way to have someone there. Best Used arrives, assesses the situation and we come to an agreement. Saturday morning, 10am they will come by to pick up all our goods. Now we are waiting around Saturday for this very important pick up as these MUST be gone. 10am. No show. No call. We proceed to call and leave voicemails, no answer. Now, almost a week later we have not been given the DECENCY of a response. I do not think Hugo and Best Used are malicious. I think they are incompetent. They are completely unreliable unless you hand deliver goods to them. I you are buying anything from them just know this is how they treat people they buy from, so do not expect much better for how they will treat you as a customer.

Yesterday I decided to spend some time and look through the racks of clothes and what a selection of unique and beautiful clothes! Theresa was very helpful in bringing in many lovely items into the dressing room with suggestions. I left there feeling good about my purchases (a few very stylish dresses, casual chic tops, soft leggings, a bolero jacket and pretty jewelry). Everything is of the highest quality and in most cases the garments and leather goods will last forever. Street parking is available. The prices of her products can't be beat even if you are planning a trip to Ireland. Mary Anne and family are wonderful, helpful and sincere. Gift wrapping is always offered. I looked online and Googled and read reviews on Yelp and determined that Mary Anne's Irish Gift Shop was the place to go for a great selection of gifts for my Aunt who was turning 60 years old the next day. The great reviews justified my trip from out in Long Island all the way up to the Bronx. And when I got there, I was not disappointed at all. The neighborhood of Riverdale is beautiful in and of itself. So many Irish folks live here that the local Sunoco boasted Irish Products for sale on it's awning. And the shop is situated right on Riverdale Ave so you are right there in the middle of the neighborhood. There is a ton of construction on the block but parking was still good enough to accommodate everyone. I walked down the hill to the shop and there was a message to enter through the pub/restaurant next door. No problem at all and I walked right in and was greeted by a lovely Irish lady who was so sweet and helpful. I did not think it was Mary Anne herself because I called before I went there and was told that she would not be in the shop today. "But she can come down and see me if we needed her." LOL I thought that was great. I love little stuff like that in a shop. I went here because it looked the nicest from the pics that I saw online. I did not want cheap stuff that you can buy at the St Patrick's Day parade or expensive sweaters. They had a nice selection of different items in the small shop. I do not enjoy browsing and window shopping too much but this was fun because of all the cool stuff situated around. I reviewed everything in the shop a few times and decided to get my Aunt a nice clutch purse that was made in Ireland. The lady that worked there told me that "it would last 100 years." I also got a really nice set of silver candle holders for the table with celtic knots all over it. The best part for me was the nice lady that worked there also wrapped them very nicely for me as well. I even got some greeting cards from here with old images from Ireland that were really cool. I enjoyed myself because shopping here was an experience. I promised that I would come back for Christmas shopping! Before I left the store she told me Thank You and God Bless. You just can not get that kind of friendly service many places in NYC at all. I can not wait to go back.

There is a wide variety of merchandise at different price points. Employees on the floor are identifiable, by their name tags, that actually help if asked for assistance. There are a few places to sit. Get new eyeglasses, or coffee. There is ample free parking, indoors and outside. The B-Line services both ends of Xavier Ave; the street between Macy's and where Target is now.
