If you enjoy shopping designer brands, this is definitely an option in Calgary. There was a mix of low end and high end stores although I was looking at many of the higher end options. We were visiting from out of town and stopped at this mall as our last stop before leaving. Prices are the same as in BC except it is one tax here instead of two! So items felt a bit cheaper than what I am used to paying.

I like this mall. Its nice inside. Lots of great store. Very spacious and airy to walk in. They have a huge parking lot. They also have one underground too. Just perfect and convenient. Also its close to downtown so that is a plus for someone like me who lives downtown. Most people come here because of the theater. Its a Scotiabank theater so its bigger. Also the theater is newer and its great to come to this mall just to go to the theater. They have some artwork to see inside. So that is plus.

It's Calgary's version of Yorkdale Mall in Toronto. It's big, has a bunch of decent stores and yes...for all you fruit lovers...it has an Apple Store. The three times I've been here, the whole car scene was nuts! There was 9...yes NINE...9 security guards directing traffic at their main entrance. Parking is a nightmare...right in the middle of the day and getting in and out of the place was no easy task. If you don't need to go there...don't. I would avoid the whole mall rat race and go to the other malls around the area. The same advice I give for Yorkdale! Shopping should be fun not a punch to the CHINook! Bwahaaha! Couldn't resist. Very big mall in Calgary. Lots of stores, choice is wide from high, expensive stores to cheap ones. Everyone should be able to find something suitable for him. There is also quite big food court. When you are in Calgary and want to do some shopping this place is worth visiting.

If you asked me what a good shopping mall should have I'd say: convenient location, ample parking, a wide variety of stores, good hours, walkability, entertainment venues, a solid food court, restaurants and of course washrooms in the right places. Does Chinook Centre have all this? Short answer: yes and then some! Full breakdown below: 1) Convenient location? Yup! Right on Macleod and Glenmore with the Chinook LRT located just a short walk away. Small secret, Route 506 is a free shuttle bus service to/from Chinook LRT/Chinook Centre for those who have trouble walking or just need a break. There are also dedicated Mayfair Taxi spots and Car2Go spots, so there are no shortage of options to get to/from Chinook Centre. Score: 5/5 2) Ample Parking? Yes and No, there are over 5,500 spots (most underground) making it Calgary's largest heated parkade. So yes there is ample parking, but the "no" for parking is because you have to know where to look. The front surface lot (East) and most immediate underground areas are typically poor choices. I recommend checking the rear (West) surface lots and underground, but avoid the Nordstrom area (used to be the spot when it was Sears, but busy since Nordstrom came in). Surface covered parkade can be hit and miss out back. Also the area by Shell and Nordstrom out front is usually a safe bet due to its awkward placement lol ;). They even do valet parking at this mall on weekends... lol. Not free like The Core though! You will have to pay. Score: 4/5 3) Store Variety? ABSOLUTELY! A little bit of everything, something for everyone and a range of price ranges from affordable to very high end. With over 250 stores there's really too many to list, check out the list online! Score: 5/5 4) Hours? 9:30am-9:00pm Mon-Sat, Sun/Holidays 11:00am-7:00pm, more than adequate! There are some exceptions on some anchors like Chapters, Shoppers and the Movie Theatre of course (check online). Score: 5/5 5) Walkability? Yup! The layout of this mall is pretty simple to navigate once you're familiar with it. You can even do it pretty strategically to cover both levels with minimal/no overlap if you know what path to take. Escalators and elevators are in the right places. It does get fairly crowded, but the walk ways are wide enough so you can get past the slow pokes. They even categorize the floor plan a bit, for example most cell phone stores are in the same area and most high end stores are in the same area. Score: 4.5/5 6) Entertainment? The best theatre in Calgary (see my separate review for why I think it's the best). There's a bowling alley as well at this mall! No other major activities though. Score 4/5 7) Food Court? Great balance, a little bit of everything from greasy to healthy, from super cheap to a bit more expensive. Sweet to Savoury... you get the point. Score 5/5 8) Restaurants? MMhmmm: JOEY Chinook, State & Main, Bazille, Double Zero Pizza, Boston Pizza, Globefish Japanese Bistro and Chop. Great options, just docking a point for variety, Score 4/5 9) Washrooms? These are so-so, they have them located throughout the mall but they're kind of in these odd spots away from everything and you find yourself rushing to them rather than conveniently using them. Score 3/5 Simply put: Chinook has something for everyone! Given my breakdown above you may be wondering why I gave it a 5/5 overall instead of a 3 or 4. This mall is a 5/5 because it's the best Calgary has to offer despite a couple short comings, if all the malls in Calgary were the exact same distance apart I would always choose Chinook Centre because it offers more overall. Market Mall, South Centre, The Core? No contest... Some might argue CrossIron Mills and it would be close because they have some strong anchors. But Chinook would still edge it out because CrossIron doesn't have the quality of theatre Chinook does nor does it have the restaurant options. So if you only get to visit 1 mall on your next major shopping day, choose Chinook Centre :).

The layout of the older section of this mall sucks and is not made to handle the kind of traffic that the mall recieves. That said this mall is the best overall place to come if you want to get the widest range of price points and shopping options. This is the only mall besides TD Square to have a fairly high end (although not as high end as TD Square). The new addition did wonders to improve on this, you can now go to a non-downtown mall and find stuff like Coach, Harry Rosen, high end cooking stores, and the like. The food court layout is awesome along with the themes, as big as that foodcourt is though it is too small to handle the traffic of the mall and they should have built a second smaller foodcourt int he exampnsion to help cope with that issue. Best eating options for a mall in Calgary as well, way more options then Marketmall or other true malls in the city. read more

Great mall with lots of selection. During the Christmas season it can get a little crazy trying to maneuver through the sheer volume of people but that's true of most malls at that time of year. Parking is never really an issue and the Ctrain has a stop just 2 blocks away. read more

In recent years, it seems this mall has really taken a turn for the lowest possible standards bar. Completely engulfed in corporate marketing and soul-less directives, this mall has completely lost the interests of Calgarians and now instead attempts to appeal to a luxury audience (despite it's positioning in one of the more concerning roads in the city, and poorly aging accessibility.) This, however, seems to be an increasingly bad move as the economy has been in a steady downturn, and ever more we move towards being an e-commerce based society. Cadillac Fairview has driven this mall into the ground along with Market, leaving literally no experiences to set Chinook Centre apart from every other mall in the city. When I was a boy, I loved the carousel! My grandpappy and I would get a sundae and watch the blimps and airplanes go by in the food court. Now, all of that is gone. Even the dinosaurs. What is supposed to save the malls if not for fun gimmicks? There is no more experience. Other than time constraints, there is no reason not to buy things online anymore. It is so accessible. I wish they would fix this once great, now bland behemoth of a mall. read more

I recently had a TERRIBLE experience with the Levis Store in Chinook involving paying for a purchase with cash and a shop! gift card. Basically the manager is a jerk and would not give us a refund because we had paid for 25% of our purchase with a mall gift card. When I contacted Chinook Centre and the communications manager for Cadillac Fairview she assured me that the information he had given me is wrong and every merchant is able to refund a purchase back on the shop! card that was used for the original purchase. She apologized for my having a bad experience with one of their merchants and gave me a complimentary gift card for more than the amount of my original purchase. That was above and beyond what they had to do and although I will NEVER shop at the Levis Store again I will continue to purchase shop! gift cards from Chinook Centre. You are awesome Stacy! I can understand why people complain about the parking but you can avoid the whole horror show by parking in the underground parking in the back of the mall. It's not a big deal. I like this place because it has lots of stores that other malls in Calgary don't have like Scotch & Soda and Nordstrom. I'd recommend coming to this place if you're looking for something different that Southcentre won't offer. read more

good variety of stores - many high end stores and a really large centre. found it quite surprising that there were no sale racks in the stores we checked out - have never been in a mall without them!! would recommend checking out the floorplan before you go so that you can park close to where you would like to go as it is quite a hike from one end of the mall to the other! read more

I have become very disappointed the last few years with the stores in Chinook Center. Where did the Christmas decorations go. Are we afraid we might hurt someone's feelings. I would not recommend this mall to anyone that wants to enjoy the most beautiful season. read more

It was busy, but plenty of space to move around. Everyone was behaving themselves, adults and kids alike. There is good variety of stores to shop at. From anchor department stores, technology, clothing and personal wares. The gardens are a nice feature too. Very relaxing to stroll through and check out some of the current blooms.

This is an absolute quaint area that I discovered driving home on the Elbow Drive. Just east of the…read moreElbow River in the SW, the BP is a collection of street side shops that carry gift items, women's fashions, home accessories and books, plus a food market and services. Of course my favorite part about this area is that you can do your grocery shopping, buy a bottle of decent red wine, mail a letter, have a Starbucks coffee and do this all with FREE parking. This is a very convenient turn off to do errands but has pretty higher end services, Sunterra is great fresh food market but a little higher in price than your local Co-op, you have a 5 star chocolate store and good clothing locations but you are paying for what they have to offer. This sweet street seems to cater to the more influential locals of the area so we are talking the people living in the million dollar homes that are next to the Elbow River. What I like about BP is that it still has an old fashioned small town feeling and the peacefulness of walking outdoors to do window shopping is all so refreshing.

Hi Just wanted to share with my experience with Zara Canada online shopping. Bought 4 items, waited 10 or more days to receive it. Well, when I received the items, was not my cappa tea so decided to return to the Chinook centre in Calgary.Their method was weird and kinda 1960s, they went trough the clothes and marked all labels inside the garment. Did not swipe my card or nothing, gave me receipts which not stated the amount which will be refunded back to me and said that Zara will refund my money within 3 days. Well, that was not the case. Checked my account, there no money from Zara. Send them email, they replied that the items probably on the way to the store? What? So, I send them back saying well excuse me but its not, I'm personally with my own hands returned it to store. Decided to call and clarify the matter, the customer service guy surprised me further saying that they don't have any information of my return. Well, unlucky I'm holding the proof of receipts that the items returned. He said could u plz scan the receipts and send it to them. Well, we leavening in Calgary till September in rented accomadion without printer or scanner, anyway I managed to take a photos with my iPad and send them the pictures of my receipts as discussed. Now, waiting for MY OWN MONEY!!!! Very very disappointed with the service, with the working method. The all things is unpleasant, keeping my money, chasing after my own money. If the matter will be not resolve with Zara Canada Online Shop ASAP and if the money will not be refunded back to my bank account, I will take the thing further! Just want to say, that I am old and reliable customer of Zara in UK and never ever had any problems with them. Now, I just stressed and disappointed! read more

I showed up at 9 AM on Saturday to do some Christmas Shopping. A man with a fluorescent vent (no ID or other name tags) asked me if I was an employee and if I was here to do some shopping. After I answered him, he let me pass. I called Cadillac Fairview to ask if this questioning was standard practice. I spoke to William Foliot, Security Manager at Chinook and after he explained that this policy existed for the benefit of their customers told me that: "if I did not want to play ball with them I would not allowed to shop there". I'm a 50 year old professional engineer and object to shop like I'm in a police state. Cadillac Fairview can run their mall how they wish; Chinook Mall is private property and they can do what they want but I do not have to support it. Good luck Chinook store keepers. read more

It is a mess the traffic around this mall and parking lot, this is why we only go to mall when it is too cold to go outside. This mall has widest variety of stores of any other mall in Calgary and a movie theatre. It is clean and renovated, maybe could use a few more sit down eating venues. I find myself here about 6 times a year for various reasons. After the expansion, the selection of stores is phenomenal - if I need a variety of items (like for Christmas shopping) this is usually the place I end up (though I'll find a weekday to do the shopping instead of an evening or weekend). I love that there's a Phil & Seb in here and Sony store was a great addition. And the cinema too, I am only come here for movie read more

There's a lot of great places to shop here, and the underground parking is always a huge plus. It's a real pain during sale season, but what can ya do, every mall is like that. The food court has some nice variety, my only real complaint is that finding specific stores is so difficult! I'm not that great with directions in the first place, but the mall's navigation resources did me no favours. Still, I'd come back. read more

I really like chinook mall. its quite big with lots of parking around the whole building and even underground parking as well. The mall has a great shop selection with a movie theater as well! The west side of the mall has recently been renovated and is newly design. It has two floor with a nice vice from the food court. Overall i enjoy my time shopping at the mall this weekend. Although the mall is clean and attractive, for me the Chinook Centre is way too busy all the time. You can never find parking, the people driving around are more than happy to run you over and it's always a fight to find a decent place to sit when you go to the theatre. I'm afraid I now avoid this place as much as possible, my life is busy enough without adding that chaos. read more

good shopping center.. it seems that they have a customer orientated view. i was here over Christmas and noticed that there were customer service staff in various locations through out the mall asking people if they needed help finding what they were looking for etc.. i thought this was a very nice touch read more

This is a great mall, but weekend parking can be a serious headache. Great to see Nordstrom in there now. You guys have a good food court. Some high end stores, some mid-end too. All in all it's a great place to shop. I can find the newer product here when I can't in the same stores in other malls. read more
