But as far as video game shops go, the Game Stop on Henry Street is la creme de la creme. Like the other Game Stops in the city, it offers some amazing sales. It has stacks and stacks of games for all consoles. It will give you money for your old video games or you can exchange them for a new or pre-owned game and pay the difference. Game Stop has the same scheme for DVDs which are located upstairs. You can exchanges your old movies for new ones and pay only two Euro. This deal beats any DVD rental place.

Yes, as someone mentioned previously in their review, the store can sometimes be a bit haphazard in terms of keeping things clean and tidy, but I'd be willing to give the employees a bit of slack on that, as the store is in a super-busy part of the city centre as it relates to footfall. Onto the review: great store, could be better though, even though it's a priority place to visit for movies and games. On occasion, you might plan to buy something there, but a "customer" has swiped the box. I'd like to see some security measures employed by the owner, though if that hasn't happened after the first 7 years, then I don't know... Also, the queuing system drives me crazy. People just randomly stand to the side of you (and some even have the nerve to walk right in front of you), which says more for their upbringing (or downbringing) than anything else. A proper queuing system is badly needed here, as it's mentally draining to go in there after 1pm because the most unsavoury characters are lingering around the store like semi-zombies and are completely oblivious to others. Not only was I met straight away by an extremely smiley young woman who brought me straight over to the display model it was on sale in smyths for €30 less! Cool! This store is really well laid out and they keep every segment well organised. The shop is also quite spacious and comfortable. The staff seem to be helpful, especially with parents not knowing what to buy, also they play some excellent music in the store. As always the major caveat is you can probably get better prices if your selling games etc elsewhere.

On my latest visit I felt a bit bewildered on entering, but I still came out with the right toys that were needed... and also a jigsw for me that it could be argued that I did not need. Anyway I'm not sure if its the lack of little people that I need to buy toys for but I usually find myself pleasantly surprised with the prices at smyths. Screaming toddlers runing around in danger of scraping knees and bumping foreheads while mothers argue with their mothers about who's buying their little precious a Ben 10 wristwatch. That being said, Smyths is still one of the best toy shops in the country. They have an enormous amount of stock and their customer service is great. Not only that, they also have a 'software zone' which is pretty good for computer games and consoles. I do sometimes go into the Smyths back home for a bit of a nostalgic time wasting. Just not at Christmas. NEVER at Christmas.
