But as far as video game shops go, the Game Stop on Henry Street is la creme de la creme. Like the other Game Stops in the city, it offers some amazing sales. It has stacks and stacks of games for all consoles. It will give you money for your old video games or you can exchange them for a new or pre-owned game and pay the difference. Game Stop has the same scheme for DVDs which are located upstairs. You can exchanges your old movies for new ones and pay only two Euro. This deal beats any DVD rental place.

I'd like to see some security measures employed by the owner, though if that hasn't happened after the first 7 years, then I don't know... Also, the queuing system drives me crazy. People just randomly stand to the side of you (and some even have the nerve to walk right in front of you), which says more for their upbringing (or downbringing) than anything else. A proper queuing system is badly needed here, as it's mentally draining to go in there after 1pm because the most unsavoury characters are lingering around the store like semi-zombies and are completely oblivious to others. Not only was I met straight away by an extremely smiley young woman who brought me straight over to the display model it was on sale in smyths for €30 less! Cool! As the afore-mentioned young woman went to the stock room had a look around at the mountains of toys. Kind of wish I was a kid again! This store is really well laid out and they keep every segment well organised. The shop is also quite spacious and comfortable. The staff seem to be helpful, especially with parents not knowing what to buy, also they play some excellent music in the store. As always the major caveat is you can probably get better prices if your selling games etc elsewhere.

On my latest visit I felt a bit bewildered on entering, but I still came out with the right toys that were needed... and also a jigsw for me that it could be argued that I did not need. Anyway I'm not sure if its the lack of little people that I need to buy toys for but I usually find myself pleasantly surprised with the prices at smyths. As a special bonus this particular store opens really late at Christmas - until 11pm I think, so if you need to buy toys but can't cope with children around its a godsend!

I now cannot think of a worse place to work. Screaming toddlers runing around in danger of scraping knees and bumping foreheads while mothers argue with their mothers about who's buying their little precious a Ben 10 wristwatch. That being said, Smyths is still one of the best toy shops in the country. They have an enormous amount of stock and their customer service is great. Not only that, they also have a 'software zone' which is pretty good for computer games and consoles. I do sometimes go into the Smyths back home for a bit of a nostalgic time wasting. The stock they have is awesome, the shop is super nicely laid out, really like stepping back in time. The guitars and ukulele's are beautiful, and genuinely good prices. I spoke to someone on the phone who was knowledgeable and really kind, however when I went in, the guy serving just made us feel like we were an inconvenience. We spent over 200euro all in, and it wasn't until the next day when I went to pick up one of the guitars he showed a bit more empathy and gratitude. He mentioned he was grateful for the custom, especially as everyone is going online now these days. I mean, I get that, however, the day before he just couldn't have been less enthused. Buying a ukulele for my mum, guitar for my nephew... all new to this incredible world of string instruments... If it had been me, I would have offered suggestions, helped out, maybe thrown in a couple of plectrums, even a re-string, but no, nothing of the kind. I remember 24 years ago (I'm 37 now) going into Dublin city to these music shops to stare at guitars, the people in the shops were so kind and accommodating, letting me try them out, offering tips and suggestions.
