Without a doubt (and trust me on this, I've seen a lot of them), this store is the most unfriendly, disorganized mess of a video game store that I have ever visited.
I find it interesting that the only reviews for this place are from four years ago. Let me give you a modern-day perspective on why this Gamestop is at the bottom of my list.
Pro: The location is good.
That's the nice part out of the way. Now onto the Con section.
Con: Dodgy discs. I've bought DVDs and PS2 games from here that are so scratched, they look as if a mouse has been ice skating on them. And heaven forbid that you should voice concern after the purchase, as you'll generally be met with sighs and the gormless stare of the employee gawking at the disc for the best part of a minute.
Con: Disinterested staff members. Let's break this down by covering each employee briefly: a small, red-faced guy with a bizarre fringe who pushes people out of the door so as to "not miss his train", and who also can't stop saying the words "man' and "dude". What is this, Woodstock??
There's another student who currently has slicked back hair and looks like a smaller version of Rodney Trotter, who is the rudest Gamestop employee ever. Of all time! Treats the job like it's beneath him, and is totally not interested in being mannerly. He's generally stuck upstairs, with his back to the store while he watches a movie.
Asian guy who doesn't smile, doesn't help or do much of anything really. Has been quite rude with me on several occasions, my own fault of course for daring to interrupt his daydreaming by making a purchase.
Then we have the person who I believe is the assistant manager, a female with glasses. I'm guessing that her colleagues all learn from her, as she approaches her work with the same "I hate the public, I'm made for better things" approach.
Con: Terrible product knowledge. A Little Big Planet 2 game cover went missing recently, so the staff replaced it with a generic white sleeve with the words "Little Big Plant 2" on it. I moved this cover to the front of their display, and when I went back the following week, there it was, still with the new releases, spelling mistake and all. Professionalism all the way...
I wish there was a more friendly place for parents to buy games, and HMV will hopefully re-open soon to remedy this. Do yourself a favour, and avoid this place like the plague. You're paying the wages of people who seem to genuinely loathe gamers, and their attitude will make this painfully obvious. read more
