    Grainger Games - The store

    Grainger Games

Graigner Games Cheetham Hill is in the Cheetham Hill shopping centre, opposite the Costa Coffee and…read morevery close to the Tesco store. This is a smaller store but still has a good selection of games on various consoles. I had 2 visits to this store, one through choice and one, which I was near enough forced to make, This review makes more sense if you read my one for the Oldham branch as well otherwise the events may be abit confusing. I went into the store and I bought the New Call of Duty game for £30, it was 5 pounds cheaper on the website but I got quite a lame excuse regarding that, that is a reduction for waiting times, I do feel that if they can do £25 online, they should be able to do in the shop as well. I ordered the game in new condition, so after making nearly a 10 mile round trip, I expected everything to be okay but when I got home, I noticed the game was open. I rang the store right away and they explained that they have to do that for display purposes but they would offer me a full refund, or a unopened replacement if one came in on the following days' delivery. As I was going to Oldham anyway, I tried to get the refund in the Oldham store and to put it short, they were very rude and said it wasn't part of the returns policy even though I phoned them and they did offer to give me a refund. This meant I had to go all the way back to Cheetham Hill, and somehow I had to fit this in on my already packed schedule. When I went back, without a fuss they gave me a full cash refund, I would of thought they would of gave me 5 pounds cash and the rest on my card, like I paid but this was easier, as they didn't have the unopened game come in with their delivery. I do feel this store done well to rectify the problem, but I am still furious they never told me in the beginning to save another 10 mile round trip, they just put the game in my bag without giving me chance to check it first but anyway it isn't my job to check it, they should of informed me. Due to this incidient, I can only give 2 stars, scoring 1 higher than the Oldham branch because this store rectified the problem "that wasn't in their return policy"

This store follows the decor of an old Game store, it is brighter and nicer inside, with the merger of Gamestation and Game a few years ago, I do like how the company vary the stores and keep the original features from the brands despite still being under one game, albeit I do always prefer the layout of the old Game stores as they just seem nicer and brighter. Inside, the selection of games was okay, yet it was nothing more than that, it was just satisfactory and I did struggle to find certain games and was given a rather rude response by a member of staff for asking for a new game she said "You're just paying for Cellophane and it's stupid if you want a new one because its more expensive with a less guarantee" - I appreciate her raising the point but as far as I'm aware the games are normally covered for a year anyway and are at most other retailers so that was a lie, and she just seemed rude and arrogant in the way she said it. It's a gift and I didn't want to give a used game as a gift, especially for just a small price difference. The store did seem quite busy, mainly with Black Friday deals going on at the time and it being close to Christmas. Sadly there were less of the games on full view here to avoid spending ages, bending down and looking for the game, which I hate, which was why I asked whether they stocked something in the first place. Overall, due to poor levels of customer service, pricing of some games where I noticed certain games around £25 more expensive or double than what it would cost elsewhere and the general stock of games and how they are set out in the store means sadly Bolton have been let down and are being given a Game store which in a way just seems poor and careless, so sadly doesn't warrant anything over a single one star.

I find Game quite dear but is great when there are offers on, you may get a good deal if…read morepre-ordering any games, consoles etc. Game do a store Card where you can earn points every time you spend but only really will benefit if you shop there regular. Game has a wide range of games for all modern consoles and pc which are all neatly set out in a-z so items are easy to find. There is also a section for pre-owned games where you can get some bargains and are of good quality because game always checks the condition of disc people trade in. I have always found the game staff to be friendly and have an idea at what they are talking about when it comes to game playing.

    Shopping Quarter, City Centre

TradeMeIn is one of the few, independent stores which buy and sell games, mobile phones and tech…read moreitems, it's most similar rivals include CeX and Game, both of which have stores nearby, for me this store is much more modern and vibrant than other trade-in retailers with a blue theme, it just felt clean and modern inside which you generally don't get with CeX. The location is in Leeds centre, although being in St John's it is a little isolated and doesn't get the footfall which the main city centre and the likes of The Trinity does. The quotes here for trading in items seems rather generous, although for my phone I had been quoted higher from both Mazuma Mobile and Music Magpie, the quote I was given was much higher than any mobile phone networks recycle scheme and their nearest competitors, Game and CEX. The store was a little small, so the selection could have been better. There was a large selection of more older games and DVD's compared too new-ones. I don't like their website, it makes it rather difficult to set up an order and the database just doesn't work online, for example, if you searched for an iPhone it would come up starting with 3GS first, with around 20+ pages, and if you search the iPhone name and model exactly, it doesn't come up so this filtering system just isn't working and needs work, to improve the customer experience before coming into the store. With trade-in prices on average better than its closest rivals, yet not the best overall and a good store feel which is how a trade-in store should be, of course, it can improve based on making sure it is easier to get a quote, and perhaps the size of the store and location to a certain extent, it still is a slightly above average store in general and anything less than a three-star rating would surely be an insult for a store which I see high potential in to be upgraded in the future.
