Hate to say this... but, was not impressed at all with the food... (Couldn't believe Guy Fieri recommended this place?). Went with my daughters when visiting, and we sat outside since it was full indoors and we didn't have a reservation. Our waitress was very kind and we ordered the sancocho (a typical chicken broth type soup with root veggies) - it was COLD and pretty bland. The waitress heated it up and then it was better, but it was fairly tasteless. We ordered the fish ceviche and it was (hate to say) awful! Fish was very fresh but it was very "limey" that the overriding flavor was only citrus and more lime. Maybe we're spoiled with the numerous ceviche restaurants in Miami (where we live), but this was NOT Diners, Drives-Ins and Dives stature!! The best thing we had was the arugula salad with parmesan and roasted garbanzos... that was yummy! Sorry... wish I could endorse Guy... but can't! read more

What a disappointment! Overcooked fish in lime juice is not ceviche, the fish was chewy and the presentation was terrible, the reviews here has no clue was good seafood for sure. Made reservations at this restaurant when a colleague and I were coming into town for a work conference. Another colleague wanted to join us so I called the restaurant to see if they could squeeze her in and they kindly accommodated us. Small but vibrant restaurant. We were seated at a high top in the bar area. I ordered a Laura's Lemonade because I liked that $1 from each drink went to an environmental non profit. Waiter kept us hydrated with a carafe of water on our table. The menu was extensive but at a place called Ceviche's of course I had to go with the ceviche. I thought about the sampler but ended up going with the corvina at the waiter's suggestion. It was absolutely fabulous. The entree of the day, a tuna dish, also sounded fabulous but I had to go with the ceviche. My colleague has a tree nut allergy and our waiter was very knowledgeable about that. My husband and I visited for dinner and had a great experience. We started off with a round of mojitos, the watermelon basil for me and the Panamanian for him, and the seasonal guacamole. My round 2 drink was the blackberry smash, the drinks were good. For our entrees we ordered the ropa vieja and corvina a la plancha and for dessert it was the coconut cake. Visiting Wilmington, my family & I were incredibly impressed with Ceviche's! We had a reservation and were seated right away when we arrived. I started off with sangria, which was delicious! It was made with spiced rum, and had hints of vanilla. Our table placed an order for guacamole and the standard ceviche to share. I tried the guac- which was amazing! The chips were thick and crispy-salty. For my entree I ordered the frijoles y arroz, which was excellent. Seasoned black beans (you're given a choice between black and pinto) with coconut rice, served with fried plantains, avocado, and pico de gallo. It was a huge serving, and I was able to take 1/2 home for leftovers. Everyone else loved their dishes as well! My mom went to high school in Panama and attested that the food is authentic. Still love this place. Came to celebrate my SIL's birthday and were seated on their shaded expanded patio. We went almost full fish ordering the tuna app, a full ceviche mixto (my least favorite, but other's fav, it has a kick of horseradish), the mano ceviche (my second favorite) as well as the lagostine in coconut (the BEST IMO). We also got two orders of the chorizo and goat cheese empanadas. The creaminess of the goat cheese perfectly offsets the spiciness of the chorizo, this empanada is excellent. My spicy marg was just ok, but it was an off menu order, and they did their best to accommodate (flavored margs are always best when the flavor comes from the simple syrup, which requires steeping). For birthday dessert, we got the funnel cake guys and the mousse. The chocolate mouse reminded us of the fudgey layer you can get on some cakes, it went with the funnel cakes perfectly but on it's own was far too thick and far too rich to be called a mousse. All in all ceviches continues to be my favorite restaurant in Wilmington and a must stop every time I"m in town. read more

I have been craving this place for YEARS since the owner Hunter opened it. He and I served in the Army together and he started this business as his next chapter at serving people. We got the ceviche sampler platter and two orders of empanada's. Both were absolutely AMAZING, and well worth the wait. The ceviche was all fresh and flavorful. I loved the sea bass ceviche the best, although all of them were very tasteful. We had the in-house made chips with it as well as their beef empanadas and chicken. The crust on those was very tasty and we loved the included sauces. Can't remember a lot about the ingredients as I spent the majority of my time catching up with Hunter, and devouring food. The setting once inside the rum bar was nice and very authentic looking. We sat at the custom made bar and really enjoyed our time there. My friend and I stopped in here because of the great reviews on Yelp. I'm so glad we did! It has a tropical feel from the moment you walk in. We sat at the bar and enjoyed a very refreshing mojito. We wanted to try a few different things. We started with two salsas, the corn and the pineapple. The corn salsa was a nice smoky taste. It would have made a nice side dish. The pineapple salsa was more traditional in texture. It was delicious!! We then ordered the mixed ceviche. It had shrimp, scallops and tomatoes. We shared this but I really wanted it all to myself. We have only eaten here for dinner and have loved it every time. We recommend it to all of our Airbnb guests as well. We came the other day for lunch and had a very different experience. If you do come for lunch, I don't recommend being the first table of the day. It took 20 minutes for our waiter to greet us and even then, we didn't know if it was our waiter or kitchen staff just bringing us water based on the attire they were wearing and no communication as to who they were. The staff was very loud in the kitchen, laughing and shouting to one another from the bar area to the main dining room. One of our dishes came out room temperature while the other came out burning hot, so the chef did not time the dishes correctly, even though we were the only ones there. Besides the hostess being very warm and welcoming, we got the feeling that there was no manager on duty so the professionalism we were accustomed to was not there. read more

A long, long time ago I worked as a server at a really good Cuban restaurant. I was super excited about Ceviche's because the menu had similar vibes (but Panamanian). The interior of this restaurant is beautifully decorated, more than what you'd expect from the outside for sure, the ambiance would be great for a date night or a celebration. Since we went for lunch, we decided to share their special and the Ropa Vieja. The special for the day was a chipotle tuna on a tostada, and it was so so good. The amount of tuna that it came with was really ample (which was nice to see cause sometimes when you order Tuna it can be a small portion). We also ordered a side of their seasonal guacamole to share, and that was really yummy too, it had mangoes so it was sweet and creamy. The surprising win for the lunch was actually the side of maduros (sweet plantains) that came with the Ropa Vieja. They were savory and crispy on the outside, and tender on the inside. I go a little cray cray for a good plantain so was excited that these were so good. Excited to go back again in the future. Definitely order a tostada or ceviche if it's on the menu and a side of plantains. Can't go wrong! read more

A very good experience overall! We started with El Quatro, and we absolutely loved two of the four ceviches. Both the corvina and the mango mahi were perfectly balanced, with a bit of acidity, sweetness, and spice. For the mango mahi, the jalapeño and the onion were the distinguishing flavors, while in the corvina, the cilantro and the onion shined. We also enjoyed the mixto ceviche, and it allowed the shrimp and bay scallops to share the spotlight. We thought the langoustina de coco was a bit too overpowered by the coconut; while we could see what they were trying to do, there was so much sweetness that we could hardly discern any other flavor. Next, we tried the sancocho with a side of coconut rice, and it was really good soup. The various starches (potato/yucca/plantains/corn) really complemented each other, and it still managed to retain that lighter feel (likely due to the cilantro broth), helping to prepare us for the main dish. Coconut rice is typically too sweet for my palate, but I didn't feel that at all here. For our main dish, we ordered the blackened scallops and slow roasted pork belly dish. Overall, there were a lot of flavors in this dish. While each flavor was quite good, I am not sure they really belonged together, as at times, I thought they were dueling for attention. The pork belly had a bit of a bite, but not so much that it was tough. It was on the saltier side, so I preferred to have it with my cilantro mashed potatoes. I ate the scallops entirely on their own, as they would have otherwise been overpowered by the other dish components. Lastly, I do want to make a small plug for the cocktails. As a special, they had the "all rye all rye all rye," and it had a very nice balance of rye whisky, lemonade and blueberry juice. Definitely worth at least one trip! read more

I really love the atmosphere and food here. This is not my favorite type of foods (I do love ceviche) but you are transported to another place in the world when you come here. I have dined here many times and it usually on a wait or reservations only. Today we got right in for lunch. Do not expect that during the summer time. They are a few different dining sections. We sat in the main dining room ( which is not very big). My son started with the chips and salsa which are $5.00. I do not know if that are unlimited. The salsa is a super fresh chunky pico consistency. I had the blackened corvina tacos with coconut rice. The rice was almost better than the tacos. My son had the Ropa Vieja which he liked very much. My wife and I had lunch at Ceviche's this past Wednesday. It's located in a small building on the right, right before crossing the bridge heading in Wrightsville Beach from Wilmington, NC. It's Panamanian food at its best. I had the tuna poke bowl and my wife had their version of arroz con pollo. She said the chicken was tender and very tasty. The tuna was very fresh and tasted wonderful. My mouth is watering while writing this review. But the hit of our meal was the fresh salsa appetizer. ABSOLUTELY THE BEST I'VE EVER HAD...HANDS DOWN.... I was visiting NC over the holidays and came to dine at Ceviche's and WOW I cannot wait to come back! We slipped in right at 5 pm because we didn't have a reservation and I would definitely recommend booking a reservation in advance! The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating available and is pretty spacious. The food was unbelievably good - ALL OF IT! I really enjoyed this meal, it was probably my favorite during our entire trip. The seafood is so fresh and the amount of food that comes with each dish will definitely fill you up! But it was so fresh and had a little spice to it but not spicy. It also came with these homemade tortilla chips. I ordered the Ropa Vieja lunch special and it so tasty! It came with two plantains, a side of avocado, salsa fresca and a cabbage mixture. For a lunch time special it was a decent size and the rice was a nice added sweetest to the dish.
