Fried catfish, corn on the cob, and French fries.

This was my first experience. We got seated immediately. There were plenty of seats available, but it did get busy while we were there and the time got closer to dinner. I can tell this is a popular restaurant. Hushpuppies were brought to the time upon our seating and drink orders were taken. I ordered fried catfish, french fries, and corn on the cob. All the food was hot and fresh. The catfish was a little greasy and the batter was breaking off as I ate it. The corn was your basic corn on the cob, nothing special. Fries were good and cooked prefect. They did have several tv's and a bar near the back of restaurant. Good spot to come, eat, and drink without the worries of waiting to be seated. The service is very good. Waitress was there for anything that we needed. Checks were brought promptly when asked. The price of food was decent for the quantity of what you got to eat.

Arrived for lunch in need of some good seafood. First stop on our week trip to the beach. It was busy, but tables were available. It appeared they were short staffed, with the hostess also waiting tables and delivering drinks. The seafood was good, but the sides were cold. We didn't get any hush puppies until asking several times and halfway through the meal. Overall it was a decent experience, but probably won't return.

Lots of tables open on Monday evening. Complimentary hush puppies were good, fried well, sweet. Served with packaged vegetable oil spread. Asked for a grilled tuna sandwich, cooked medium. Besides the tuna being way overcooked, sandwich was alright, just basic buttered toasted bun with mayo, lettuce, tomato, red onion. Came with one side of your choice and sweet spicy pickles. Side of fried okra was good. Service was okay, we were seated quick.

I always visit this restaurant when I'm in the area. They were kinda stingy this time. I ordered a $23 meal and they only gave me 3 hush puppies. Most seafood restaurants give you a whole basket.

I'm a huge fan of the fried seafood found at the NC and SC coast so before we departed Wilmington I had to stop somewhere and pick some up. We found the Boathouse after a little searching and it seems like we found a real local gem. Most of the crowd appeared to be local which is a great indicator of the quality of this restaurant. The service was terrific and extremely friendly. The food was excellent, most importantly the hushpuppies which were amazing. I recommend getting at least one order of hushpuppies to accompany the one free order you get.

Flounder was very flaky and good. Shrimp was good too. Typical seafood place with wide choices of sides.

We started with an appetizer we have not had before and we really enjoyed it. Get the Crab dip. You get a hot, bubbly dish of the dip with some fried pita chips. Get some bread at the table too, so you can enjoy the dip if you run out of chips. My husband loved it so much he ate it plain. We got some excellent entrees this time. We had the Figure 8 stuffed flounder. Instead of the green beans and risotto, he got risotto cakes and sautéed spinach. Risotto cakes are really good. Nice and crispy and so tasty. We also had the lemon pepper scallops with risotto cakes and asparagus. We really enjoyed everything and our server was so nice. I didn't take a pic but I also had the handcrafted lemonade which is delicious. Unfortunately no room for dessert, but they have some yummy selections to try. We have enjoyed coming here repeatedly and do enjoy this place. We have had very few minor issues that were not deal breakers for coming in. As with any restaurant, they will have some minor flaws. Overall it is consistently good.

Wish we were in the main room. Anyway, good size menu. Everything you need from chowder, fried platters, broiled dishes and non dish items too. We went with the basic fried platters. The flounder was good, hot and crispy. The fries basic. Cole slaw tasty. The hushpuppies were not good. Small, over cooked and dry. The food came out fast. The service was great. They had good dinner specials and bar specials too. I will be back. It's a good neighborhood restaurant. 3.5 stars. But sure it will be a four next visit.

So definitely book a reservation in advance if you can. We started with a dozen local oysters and they were very good. It was our first time trying NC oysters. The tuna crudo was delicious as were the complimentary cornbread. However the entrees stole the show. My wife really enjoyed her cioppino. It was different from the Cioppino we get on the west coast. I decided to give the swordfish a try based on the reviews. I've tried swordfish a few times in the past and have always been disappointed. However this recipe has turned me into a fan. It was the most delicious swordfish that I have ever had. It wasn't dry or fishy tasting. It was just perfect!

The funny part? The kitchen initially sent out the shrimp dish... without the shrimp. We had to ask for them to bring the missing shrimp, which they quickly corrected. I couldn't help but imagine Chef Gordon Ramsay standing in the kitchen shouting, "You served the shrimp dish without any shrimp, you muppet!" That alone was worth a chuckle. We sat at the bar, where service is usually outstanding. This time the bartender was clearly overwhelmed and stretched thin, so things moved a little slower than normal. Even so, everyone remained professional and friendly. Chef Dean Neff has set a very high standard here, and it's easy to understand why Seabird has received so much recognition and James Beard attention over the years. The food quality, creativity, and consistency continue to make it one of our favorite spots in Wilmington. A missing shrimp on a shrimp dish and slower-than-usual bar service keep this from being a perfect score, but neither issue was enough to spoil the meal.

We started with a dozen oysters. Unfortunately, the presentation and accompaniments were disappointing--cocktail sauce and horseradish were combined in the same container, and the mignonette lacked flavor. More concerning, several of the oysters had small pieces of shell in them. We ordered another half dozen, but they sat on the counter for quite a while. Multiple servers walked past them before they were finally brought to our table, which was frustrating. To make matters worse, my husband noticed a server drop a ticket on the floor, pick it up, and then place it back above the food that was waiting to be served. That raised some serious concerns about food handling and cleanliness. Overall, while the oyster selection is impressive, the service and attention to detail really fell short of expectations.
