My husband and I went there this past Saturday to celebrate our 33 wedding anniversary. This is our most favorite restaurant to eat seafood at. Everything was excellent.. The calamari appetizer was so, so good! My husband had some chowder. And he ordered fried shrimp and Flounder. I had , oysters, and fried shrimp. Everything was delicious. There much left over we had dinner from the next night. thing I'm complaining about is that I fight so many flies since we sat down until we left I looked up at the ceiling and the lamb shade, and it was covered in flies. I know it is summertime and flies will be flies, but maybe there's something that can be done about it. We were swapping our arms around the whole time. That's the only thing I did not enjoy. Even our waitress was the best. We gave her a good tip definitely be back.....like I said the best seafood around!!! read more

Wait staff are very sweet. The food was FANTASTIC!! We got there before the typical lunch rush so it wasn't very crowded at first. They did get busy the longer we were there. There are a few tv's with closed caption. There's a snack bar at the rear. Other than the unswept floor and unwired seat, the food was exception that we'll bring me back. read more

Arrived for lunch in need of some good seafood. First stop on our week trip to the beach. It was busy, but tables were available. It appeared they were short staffed, with the hostess also waiting tables and delivering drinks. The seafood was good, but the sides were cold. We didn't get any hush puppies until asking several times and halfway through the meal. Overall it was a decent experience, but probably won't return. read more

Lots of tables open on Monday evening. Complimentary hush puppies were good, fried well, sweet. Served with packaged vegetable oil spread. Asked for a grilled tuna sandwich, cooked medium. Besides the tuna being way overcooked, sandwich was alright, just basic buttered toasted bun with mayo, lettuce, tomato, red onion. Came with one side of your choice and sweet spicy pickles. The venue and the menu have been revamped. Although the old sailboat model is missing from the entranceway, the staff and food are still excellent, The menu is simplified with three or four variations of fish offerings and same with handhelds (burgers,sandwiches), beef and chicken, but regardless what protein source you choose, each is offered in different forms (plates, sandwiches, baskets, tacos, etc.). I'm a huge fan of the fried seafood found at the NC and SC coast so before we departed Wilmington I had to stop somewhere and pick some up. We found the Boathouse after a little searching and it seems like we found a real local gem. Most of the crowd appeared to be local which is a great indicator of the quality of this restaurant. The service was terrific and extremely friendly. The food was excellent, most importantly the hushpuppies which were amazing. I recommend getting at least one order of hushpuppies to accompany the one free order you get. read more

Disappointing - I had an entree that included two sides. One of the sides was "green beans". Every restaurant I have ever dined at serves fresh vegetables and certainly fresh green beans are always available. I knew as soon as I saw these green beans they were served from a can. I would expect a marginal cafeteria to serve canned green beans certainly not a restaurant that claims to be highly regarded. I called the restaurant and the manager acted as if he had no knowledge of food service and could not even bring himself to apologize for these disgusting green beans. Service - friendly and quick. Ambience is like a mom and pop diner with a twist it felt very "beachy" and it's visible it's a family favorite for a nice easy dinner night as it was very full. Based on the size and flavor it's understandable why it's a popular place. I could've easily shared mine with my daughter and another adult. Delicious and filling and well served. The soup was good also. Prices are great! They have great deals for the day which I hear sell out quick before diner time and deals for bottles of wine! We have a Riesling bottle for $15. read more

Every time I visit Wrightsville Beach, I have to make at least one stop at this informal, friendly, consistent, reasonably-priced restaurant. My go-to is the fried seafood, and it's almost more than one person can eat (even me). I ordered the 3-item plate with flounder (huge, perfectly-fried filet), scallops (there must've been at least 10 of them), and shrimp (too may to count...a little bigger than popcorn, but not jumbo by any means). They come with two sides, so I had to order collard greens and black-eyed peas. The collards were very good, but had gone a little cold. My tablemate doesn't eat seafood, but was very happy with the boneless pork chops. The experience starts with complimentary "hush puppies" which are fried strips of cornmeal, onion and a little sugar. The service is consistently quick, attentive, responsive and friendly, and the prices are VERY competitive. They have a pretty wide variety of dishes other than seafood, too. Next time I'm back in WB, I'll be back. read more

Definitely not what I expected, not my kind of food. I order shrimp tacos, and those shrimps were so tiny. They weren't grilled but fried. The hush puppies were good if you like fry food you will like this place. I am more of a healthy eater, but I'm glad I tried this Restaurant. Solid 4-star experience. Great fried seafood. Very family friendly environment. Super friendly staff (busy night & we got checked on frequently) & food came out quick & hot. Hubby said the fried platter was great, flounder & especially the fried oysters. The blackened fish is great as well. Actually used ranch to dip a little & it really enhanced the blackened seasoning (which was very good). Mango chutney was awful, it's pickled (maybe ok for some, but we did not like it). Fried green tomatoes were pretty good, bridgetender does these so much better. But they were ok. Ask for some of the chipotle mayo & ranch (mix them) and it was awesome with the FGT's. It was $60 before tip ($73 after) for 2 of us & no alcohol. Not super affordable but not outrageous. read more

Entrees ordered were shrimp & grits, fried shrimp, fried flounder, and kids chicken tenders & fries. Portions were generous--the filet of flounder was ginormous! We all ordered different sides--mac n cheese, fried okra, cukes & tomatoes, apples, and fresh fruit. The only complaint was the mac n cheese was a bit peppery. My wife and I had lunch with my aunt and uncle on our last day visiting Wilmington and it was a pretty good choice. My wife had the veggie wrap and she really liked it, said there was plenty of filling in the wrap and it was well cooked, she also loved the black eyed peas. I had the catfish and shrimp. The shrimp were tasty and the cocktail and tartar sauces were great. I really loved the mac and cheese and the baked apples were the highlight of the meal for me, they were delicious. The one drawback was the catfish was really bland, catfish tends to be that way, it needs help with seasoning and it was a little lacking here. I really regret not ordering the flounder and shrimp instead. Overall it was still a good meal though and I'd go back for sure, next time I'll just get the flounder instead of the catfish. read more

The boathouse restaurant is a classic in Wilmington. Their sign says "the best seafood in town." Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. We arrived for lunch and was seated right away. We ordered appetizers, the Buffalo shrimp and the Fried Mac and Cheese, we liked them both a lot! I ordered the mahi off the lunch menu and the price was significantly cheaper than the dinner so I'm wondering if the portions just get bigger at dinner. The mahi was okay, it was a little touch but seasoned well, the rice and broccoli were cold. My boyfriend got the clam strips and shrimp and thought they were just fine. Everyone at the table perfected something different and we're all pleased. I wasn't thrilled with the food but the service was good and the atmosphere is nice. I would try again! read more

The server was very friendly and attentive. The hush puppies came out lukewarm and weren't very crispy. I ordered a broiled dish with flounder and shrimp. i do not understand why this isn't a 5.0 instead of a 3.8. wilmington USED to be a restaurant town. the eroding economy over the last, say, 20 years has ended all that. this is a fine seafood restaurant. they have wonderful lunch specials for $12.99. nice decor. really nice "best friend" waitresses. great food. breakfast 7:00 to noon. what else can you want? this is one of the places we eat at regularly. the seafood is right out of the sea, as it is next to wrightsville beach. their special is a 10 oz crispy flounder filet with two sides and hush puppies. do yourself a favor and eat here. it seems some of these reviewers have very low IQs or something. this is great in april 2025 to have such a fine meal for a mere $12.99. if there was something to complain about i'd be first in line! read more
