First time visiting this place, decided to stop by based on the great reviews.
The good:
The food was okay, I definitely tried better Peruvian before, but it was acceptable no doubt. We ordered the Ceviche de Corvina (Fish Ceviche) & the Tiradito Criollo (sliced fish marinated with lemon). The ceviche dish was well balanced and the usual corn certainly added an interesting dynamic to this dish. The tiradito criollo had too much lemon juice, a bit overpowering and so it took away from the dish. I wasn't completely satisfy with the experience so I ordered the Parihuela de Mariscos (Seafood soup). It had great presentation & and plenty of seafood, but nothing else. See bad for details. We also ordered two deserts; picarones and suspiro limeño. They were both outstanding!! Overall; great-great service, nice job by both waitress/waiter.
The bad:
The parking is definitely a challenge on this place, we finally parked behind the small shopping mall. The complimentary green soup had a great flavor, but was served cold, which took away from the dish. Again, the fish ceviche and tiradito criollo, which turned out to be another raw fish ceviche type but with lemon juice, was not too bad, just overpowered by the lemon juice. I didn't find anything especial with the Parihuela de Mariscos; lots of seafood, but they were very raw and gummy/chewy. The taste was okay, but nothing especial, easily found in a can soup.
Final assessment:
Great ambience, small seating area but comfortable and clean. When I got the bill, I noticed a tip of 15% was already included as service charge, no problems there, so I used a card to pay & when they brought the final receipt (swiped card), I noticed my new receipt had the previous total, but now it had a suggested tip. There were three columns with 4 rows covering tips at a rate of 15-18-20 & 30%. This was besides the 15% service charge (tip) already added to the bill. I thought that was slick and somehow odd, so I asked. The waitress told me that the tip of 15% is automatically added to all checks above $30. You know, this is a gray area in Florida. I'm not a fan of having a tip added to my check. I'm a tipper no doubt, especially since I made a living and paid my way through college working at restaurants. I also recognize people get great service and don't leave a tip...which is still optional. So I value service above all and even when I get terrible service, I still tip 10-15%, but the way this business goes about adding the tip to the bill is not appealing at all. Not to mention, nowhere it was written about this rule of adding 15% for bills over $30. I believe this is a huge issue and could potentially be a turn off preventing first time customers like me from becoming repeated customers, the bread and butter of any business. There is potential in this business, but I won't be back. read more
