A number of weeks ago we had 6" of rain in 2 hours. Areas around our home flooded which then filled our basement window wells and started pouring in thru our 2 closed windows. The result was about 3 inches of water in our finished, carpeted basement on a monday night. By Tuesday morning, most had been absorbed or dissipated. We removed 1200 square feet of carpet. We were concerned about the plaster and supports and moisture behind the drywall. We ran our dehumidifier and a fan continuously. On wednesday I call CPR to make an appointment to make an assessment as to where we were. They came by on wednesday of the following week and assessed our condition. His assessment showed that we still had an excess of moisture in certain areas of the basement walls. They suggested more dehumidifiers, more fans directed at the walls, remove the baseboards to allow airflow behind the drywall. (it would have been best if the dehumidifiers discharged fan was out the back, that way you could place the fan to take the dry heat and blow it toward the wall. The 2 dehumidifiers I bought did not have that. We still set things up so the dehumidifier was farther away from the wall, then the fan blowing the air from the dehumidifier onto the wall. CPR's suggestion.) They also suggested putting holes in the drywall at the location of the baseboard to assist in air flow. Also, they suggested an anti-microbial to be sprayed on and wiped on the baseboard, drywall and floor to prohibit growth. I did not drill the holes. They also suggested increasing the temperature in the house to help drying thing out. That day we did exactly as they suggested. 2 new dehumidifiers, 3 new box fans. His evaluation took about 15 minutes. With the story telling, and other questions we had, i believe he was her for about 30 minutes. We asked if he would mind coming back a week later to reevaluate how we were doing. He agreed. Again, about 10 days later he stopped by for the last evaluation. Again it took about 10 minutes. According to his evaluation, we are now at normal levels and he assured us that what we did, we would not have any issues going forward. We asked for a bill for his service. He would not bill us. Unfortunately, as he put it, he was very busy in the area and was very willing to take a few minutes out at the end of his day to make sure that someone is correcting their flood damage correctly so his services would not be needed. We are extremely grateful for his time.
The only negative I would have, that is if you want to call it a negative, is this. Please remember I stated that he was very busy in the area. I understood that. This was not an emergency, and we both new that. The original appointment time that he stated he was going to stop by did not happen. When we set up the appointment, he asked that if 15 minutes went by after the appointment time, that we were to give him a call as a reminder. As he put it, and how well I know, when you get busy, time gets away from you. And sure enough, that is exactly what happened. I believe he then rescheduled for the following day. And again, the exact same thing happened. We did not care though. We were just taking care of many other things that day. We told him that we would be home all afternoon and asked that he just call when he was able to break away that day to stop by. And that is what he did.
This is the only reason for the 4 star instead of 5. In the end, as far as i am concerned, this was a 5 star experience.
