I love this tour. It's so reminiscent of that episode of I Love Lucy where she was workig in the chocolate factory. I walked through the factory in awe. So did my little niece. We got candy at end of the tour to munch on after we saw how it was made. We also ate chocolate covered strawberries and brought home a few for the rest of the family they were delicious. I hope they keep allowing tours, it was fun to understand how their candy is made and it made it more "real" and interesting for my niece and myself. read more

We had a magical visit to Cerreta's. What a whimsical wonderland filled with unique treats, fine chocolates and caramels. Upon entering we took a good ten minutes just to walk around see everything. On our trip there was a Black Friday special where if you bought a minimum of two pounds of candy you received 25% off. On the counter you will find big black bowls which you fill with your choices and then take it to be weighed and proceed to pay. Specifically coming to try the infamous French Mints we were not disappointed. Think Andy's candy dinner mints on steroids. They are almost fluffy and very indulgent. If you are a licorice lover track down the black licorice caramels, fantastic. Being able to see the working of the factory from the store was unique and a true treat. The whole shop inside and out is decorated for Christmas. Even though it is located in downtown Glendale, plenty of parking is available in their large private lot. read more

Cerreta's is a time capsule of how chocolate used to be made but survived our modern times to bring us this gem! A great chocolate factory that is still run by the original family, is Cerreta's. They still use machines from the early 1900's because they do it right. Some things have been updated to make the process quicker and faster but they still keep to their roots. They offer a chocolate tour for super cheap. You can pay to make a fun chocolate activity and go on the tour for anywhere from 5 dollars to 12 dollars. The tour goes over some of the items they offer and you can even go up close to some of the old machines. After they talk about the process you get to eat a few samples of their candies and do the activity at the end. We made a mini chocolate pizza which was fun. Finally, you get to shop the shop floor and bring some fun treats home. Great to take older relatives here because it will take them back in time to how life used to be. This a mom and pop candy factory, they have barks, brittles, toffee, fudge, nuts & chews, chocolate bars and truffles too! They even have a sugar free section too (but I skipped that). Everything smells soo good when you step into the store. I was in the area and wanted to stop by the store which is also the factory as well. They do offer tours of factory for free and for a few bucks you can get a tray to decorate with candies while doing the tour. I have to bring the grandkids and sugar them up and send off with their parents :) After looking around I went with a little pack of truffles, it had French mint, Raspberry and Orange and I picked up a dark chocolate bar with cayenne pepper. The truffles where great, my favorite being the French mint, I am not even a fan of mint, but the French mint is light, creamy with a hint of mint, so good! If you have never had a chili/chocolate experience you really should try it, its smoky, sweet, with a bit of heat and the dark chocolate cayenne pepper bar did not disappoint! Old school candy factory with original equipment from the 60's! We did a really neat private tour with Maria(?). She educated us on the machinery, art, and sweets made there. We bought some mint chocolates, cream filled chocolates, and caramels with nuts. Decorating the chocolate bears was also pretty fun! I had recently read my friend Leslie Ms review of this place. Sounded pretty cool. Who knew that there was a chocolate factory in Glendale? Not I says the fly. My buddy and I were in Tempe and we decided to stop on our way back to Surprise. How was it, you ask? It was A-OK. I grabbed a plastic bin and started to put pieces of candy in it. You create your own bag pretty much. They charge by the pound (I think it was $12.00 a pound). I wound up with some chocolates and caramels for the most part. I also purchased a milk chocolate with almonds candy bar and a cayenne pepper dark chocolate bar. My total was a little over $8.00 for everything. The chocolate was just alright. I am a huge Sees fan and was hoping that this would come close....eh...not really. The chocolates seemed a little "old"? Some of my pieces had a tiny bit of white in them. That usually signifies old or getting old lol. The chocolate bars were decent. The best thing here were the caramels! I got a few different types of caramel and they were all delicious. Next time I come, I will get 20% chocolate and 80% caramels for my grab bag. Service was friendly enough, I guess? I only dealt with the cashier. I also was not offered any free samples. Is that normal? Overall, it was a cool place to check out but I'm not rushing back anytime soon. If I'm in the area and craving something sweet, I'll stop. Nostalgic candy store & factory that has a fun feel about it and a variety of candies from chocolates of course to taffy & popcorn. Went there primarily for the factory tour "Purchase a Chocolate Tasting Tour Pass for a guided tour of our factory" (from their website) but it was more of a factory talk than a tour. Our group walked toward the back and listened to a 20min talk and saw some examples of chocolate molds, held a 10lb bar of chocolate and viewed a caramel cooling table from a distance but there was no walking around or up close viewing of the candy making process which I was mistakenly expecting. With the chocolate tasting tour we did get 3 samples of candies right up front and they were indeed delicious. I just think calling it a "guided tour" is quite misleading as we weren't guided around at all and really didn't get to see anything being made. With purchase of "tour" tickets we did get $2.50 off purchase of candy (per $7 "tour" ticket). They do have other "tours" that add on an "activity" such as decorate a candy pizza, or Christmas tree or pull & wrap taffy on a tray. Still, my main goal in stopping in with my kids & friends was hopefully to get a bit of a backstage pass and see how a candy factory functions and this was not what the tour involved. We took about 45 students on a field trip. It was NOT worth it. The students were charged $16.50 for the "tour guide" to talk for 10 minutes and then give them chocolate pizza's. Came here for a tour and chocolate tie decorating for Father's Day. The factory overall is really unique and cool. The tour was ehhhh... interesting but I had my two year old in tow so it definitely was not engaging enough for him to stand around for 40 minutes just listening. It would be nice if the tour was more interactive and it was a little awkward that there are just pallets of boxes etc blocking your view of the factory. For a number of years my wife and I have managed to find various chocolate "factories" when we are visiting a new location. Hershey, South Bend, St. Augustine, Orlando, etc. Last year we "found" Cerreta's in Glendale, AZ. We were apparently "late to the party" as Cerreta Candy Company has been around Glendale for more than 40 years! The factory tour is nice and informative, but this time we were there for one primary reason: chocolate. They have a wide variety of individually wrapped chocolates along one entire wall of the place and I found out....almost too late...that free samples are not only allowed...they are encouraged. Woo hoo! Although not part of our plan, we did happen to be making this visit the day before Valentine's Day. I was hit with a flash of inspiration when I decided this would be a great time (and place) to get something for my wife for the holiday. (At which point she wryly informed some other lady customers that she was married to a genius.) What a hidden gem! I had read about this briefly but didn't think it was too much. My mom made us go here and I'm so glad she did. We went for a tour (they have 2 a day) and while we waited they showed a cute little video of how the chocolate was made and how the factory worked. There were about 4 other groups that showed up for the first tour of the day. You can buy add-ons: making a chocolate pizza, the samples/coupons add on and such (ask the tour guide what they have that day). We decided against the add on's because it was so close to breakfast but to our surprise we still got some samples to taste! They give you cute paper hats to wear (and keep) and lead you through the factory for about 10 minutes, then you go back to the waiting area (you can still see the entire factory from there) and the tour guide goes through and explains everything!! It was really informative and fun. Mr. Cerreta was there and he actually MADE us chocolate covered marshmallows by hand to try (we saw him making them while we toured the factory part.) The tour guide says the amount of samples we got (peanut brittle, choc covered pretzals, 2 taffy pieces, choc covered marshmellow) was more than most days so I'm not sure what's normal! As for the shop, they have plenty of chocolate, taffy, fudge, popcorn and other specialties. The chocolate and taffy are sold by pound so you can mix and match! Chocolate teddy bear day was awesome at Glendale's amazing local chocolatier! Thanks to Kemlyn B. for letting me in on this fun event and for letting me know about this factory of delights. Their chocolates are so good, and their generous use of real cocoa butter makes a tremendous difference - their chocolates are nothing like most commercial American chocolates, which often use vegetable oil in their products. There is a wide variety of confections and many of their products are available for purchase by weight - you can definitely mix 'n match. These locally-made candies make great gifts, too. read more

8/11/09 Finally visited! I've wanted to check out Cerreta's since I moved to the valley... I expected it to be huge and bustling with people, but there were only about two to four customers there when I arrived (around 4:30pm). Definitely more employees than there were customers. The layout of the merchandise area also made me feel like I was in someone's unfinished basement, where a few tables were set up and piles of chocolates were just laid out haphazardly. The Godiva chocolate and company merchandise areas of Barnes & Noble's cafe at the Chandler Fashion Center blow this store out of the water in presentation and organization, if that says anything to you at all... Heck, even the simple layout design of Cucina Olive Oils is much more inviting... Sampled some of the truffles (the rectangular green mint ones are EXACTLY like Fannie May Mint Meltaways I had tried back in Chicago years ago). Liked how I could pick and choose the amount and variety and then pay per pound! Wished there were more chocolate varieties (truffles, bars, pretzels), though. I'm surprised not to find any chocolate-covered grahams, or even smore's in their inventory. The chocolate-covered pretzels were OK, although a bit too salty for me, but that's usually the deal with chocolate pretzels here in the US, isn't it? For diabetics and dieters, there are sugar-free selections, but these are very limited, in amount and, most importantly, in variety (I counted maybe 5 or 6 flavors). Currently, there are two daily tours, at a going rate of $7 per person, which include a complimentary personal-sized create-your-own chocolate pizza (just like you can make your own chocolate pizzas at the annual Glendale Chocolate Affaire, hosted by Cerreta's, no less, at the park nearby).
