I found my way to Providence Wholistic Healthcare a few years ago after too many years of my PCP…read moretelling me I needed to be on one pharmaceutical or another for some malady I was not experiencing. The final straw was when I could not keep any food in - no matter what I ate, it came right back up. After months of visits they finally did an abdominal ultrasound and found I had gallstones. When I asked how to get rid of them they told me 'we can prescribe pills, but we don't treat it: we wait for it to get bad and do surgery'. What!? You can treat it, but you'd rather send me to a surgeon. OK. I'm out. And my search for a real HEALTHcare provider began. That is how I found Providence Wholistic. The state of RI does not accredit Naturopathic Physicians (like other states do) even though they have the same scientific education as an MD plus they study holistic therapy focusing on keeping you well. Therefore, it's out of pocket, and I still need a PCP to order lab tests and so on. (I found a new one of those too) The naturopathic association is working on getting RI up to speed. In the mean time, I am very, very happy to have found Dr. Sheila Frodermann. First up was pesky symptoms that every ageing woman experiences. The PCP had advised me my only option was to 'suffer' (the bedside manner is weak with that one) - Dr. Sheila gave me actual things I could do to reduce and resolve symptoms including introducing me to herbal supplements. No more pesky symptoms. OMG! Why did I wait? Next up, I'm always deficient in Vit D. Well, Vit D is a fat soluble vitamin, if your gallbladder is not working on digesting fat, you are not getting Vit D. So, we add a supplement that helps my gallbladder do what it is supposed to, and voila, Vit D is no longer a problem. My brittle bones thank you. And on, and on and on. All the things I have been dealing with for YEARS, Dr. Frodermann got to the root of at my very first office visit. Holy moley and thank you Universe for finally getting me to someone who actually knows how to keep me healthy! It's a team effort. She has the knowledge, makes recommendations, instructs, and I do the work. I'm all good with being the creator of my own healthy life. Wholistic medicine takes the entire person into account when prescribing a course of treatment. It's not a one pill cures all, kind of place. You may have to change your diet (I did and she explained why), exercise more (stupid triglycerides), take supplements and/or add some kind of body work into your routine (I love a good massage). All of it is worth the effort if you are truly interested in getting HEATLTHY. I am grateful to have found a health advocate. A group of professionals who work with their patients to figure out what it is that each individual body needs to function at it's healthiest. Every body is unique. What works for you may not work for me. You are treated as an individual here. They are supportive and my visits to their office are always a pleasure. Check out their website for more information about naturopathic medicine providencewholistic.com , their providers and offerings. It's too bad insurance doesn't cover it (yet) but for me, feeling good is priceless.

I have suffered from many digestive issues over the years, and I could always count on her natural healing methods rather than the pharmaceuticals trying to be pushed on me by physicians. She is also an outstanding chiropractor who has "straightened me out" on many occasions, alleviating chronic pain in my spine, hips and neck, usually with a single adjustment. I have literally limped, hunched over in pain into her office on many occasions, and walked out an hour later totally in line and erect. She is a kind person, generous with her time, with a genuine concern for her patient's well-being. I consider her both a healer and a friend.

I was so ill, so depressed and so done seeing doctors, when I walked into her office it was my last resort, I'd done everything else one is supposed to do and a friend recommended Dr. H since nothing else had worked. She was so warm, open and obviously cared deeply about helping me...such a difference from the dozens of doctors I'd seen who couldn't figure out what was going on and didn't seem to care to figure it out. Dr. Hilty quickly helped me make giant leaps from massive depression, extreme fatigue, overweight, no energy into a (relatively) normal, functioning, happy and healthy member of society. Her work is deep, thorough and completely focused on working with whatever her patient needs to achieve optimal health. Whether I felt a little out of sorts, or recovering from something gross, Dr. Hilty always welcomed the opportunity to help me. She's not only a wonderful Dr., she's a wonderful person. If you have even the slightest need of assistance, you will be so happy to find her. The only thing I'd change about her practice is that it's no longer in NYC and Providence isn't accessible with my MTA subway card.

For example, I had historically been low in vitamin D. My 'traditional' MD/ PCP kept telling me to 'take more vitamin D' like I was forgetting to do so. I was not forgetting, and was taking so much vitamin D on a daily basis, one of my family members mentioned you can actually overdose on vitamin D. This comment gave me pause to think about exactly how well, or unwell, my healthcare really was and began my search for a new health care provider. On my very first consultation with Dr. Frodermann, she knew exactly why I was always low on vitamin D, added a natural supplement to assist with absorption to my daily vitamin routine, and I have never been low on vitamin D since! All those years of 'take more!' was never going to fix the issue. I should have come to Dr. Frodermann sooner. This is just one example of how Dr. Frodermann has changed my health, and therefore my life. It is a health journey and she is an advocate helping to figure out what is needed to stay in good health as we age. I'm definitely not one to 'pop a pill' for what ails me. I'd much rather adjust my diet, add an exercise, take Epsom salt baths, make bone broth or use a caster oil pack for example if that is what it takes to feel good. I had searched the internet for years looking for ways to feel better. It's so much easier to meet with Dr. Frodermann, having the benefit of her wisdom and experience to point you in the right direction. The office offers high quality supplements and the prices are very competitive. At present all consultations are via tele-med (Skype for example) in order to keep everyone safe and supplement pick up is no-contact. Office hours are limited, and by appointment only. Give them a call, or send them an email. The staff are very friendly and helpful. In the state of RI, naturopaths are not covered by insurance although they are licensed by the state and the RI association of Naturopathic physicians is trying to arrange insurance coverage (You can check out https://www.rianp.org/ to find out how that process is going). In the mean time, if you wish to see a naturopath in RI, it is out of pocket. If you are not getting results from your PCP, are tired of always being tired, or just not feeling like anything you have tried is working, maybe it's time you add a naturopath to your health care family. I did and I will never look back!

Dr. Behtash was recommended to me by my doctor at Memorial Hospital, Dr. Susanna Magee - who was my doctor for both of my pregnancies. I enjoyed Dr Magee's style, ease of emailing communication, and asked for her to recommend a local provider to be my regular physician. Dr. Behtash runs a micro office, which allows her to spend a ton more time with her patience -- you set up your appointments, and even email her through an app or online. This helps because she is the one who writes back to you - not a nurse! My first visit with her was about an hour. She took the time to truly understand me and my history, and has been incredibly kind at subsequent visits. She is young, knowledgable, warm, and welcoming - and I 100% recommend her to others! The waiting room is welcoming and the private treatment rooms are quiet and calming. Each room has it's own tone, that is set fourth by the therapist. This place is without a doubt top notch. They are a full service healing center that offers quite an impressive menu of holistic treatments that are 100% client focused. It is clear that the therapists and all staff in general are there because they want to be. Therapists are knowledgeable and incredibly able to contour every treatment to the client's needs or requests. I have been in with Stanley for a 70 minute deep tissue massage. Stanley is incredibly talented and focused on your body and body responses. He is professional and thorough. The deep tissue experience is just wonderful - especially for those that are on their feet for their profession - Nurse, etc.. I have scheduled another massage with Stanley and cannot wait to go back. It really helps to detoxify the body, loosen the muscles and clear the mind. I recently went in for a 70 minute hot stone full body Swedish massage with Kayla. Kayla is a very skilled and masterly in her craft. Again, she contours the massage to the client and is very interested in any specific areas / body stress you may be having. The music in her room is outrageously calming and appropriate. Her massages literally take you to another place. I was so calm and relaxed when I left I had to sit in my car for a minute before I started driving! She spares not one second of your session for anything other than making you feel absolutely wonderful. I plan on being a regular of Kayla's as well. This place is a 10. It is such a step above your "chain" massage centers. If you are looking to take your healing needs to the next level, look no further. They offer amazing incentives for first-timers and students. They always have a special of some kind running to help members maximize their experience without maximizing the cost. The value goes far beyond what you would expect. Absolutely fabulous!

The facial starts out well. Cleansing, exfoliating, microderm, all fine. Then she asks if I want extractions for an extra $10. I have literally never gotten a facial costing over $40 where extractions weren't included... But I go for it since I'm on a Groupon. She gets the tip of my nose and that's it. Seriously? I KNOW my skin isn't so perfect that it doesn't need extractions. It had been months since my last facial! Moving on. She puts the mask on. She's mixed in tea tree oil which starts to sting my face, so I let her know. She is very nice and takes it right off and applies some aloe instead. Here's the problem: she was just bragging to me about how cheap aloe is, $1.49 at the store. Then she goes and puts it on my face as my mask, and never puts another one on after the tea tree one. So the $1.49 aloe is my mask. Sorry, but I could have done this at home. Then the facial is over. It lasted 50 minutes. No massage. No head rub. No real mask, hardly any extractions. Total "value": $143 not including tip. I mean... So then I email them my grievances and explain why I didn't like my experience. No one answers. Instead I start getting mass promo emails. I even respond to one of them reminding them that I had messaged them with some feedback. Again no answer. Bye bye Dharma! For comparison this is what Blue Sky Spaworks offers for their Aveda facial, $90: -you pick out your essential oils -warm foot soak in a bathrobe -extractions -several serums, masks -head and hand massage during the mask Do with that what you will!

Marisa honed in on where I wanted to go next. In this way, she's like the coach you didn't know you needed; a good coach helps you move forward in such a way as to shorten the learning curve. As Marisa brings her top game, she carries her patients along with her. Since receiving treatments, I've learned to reallocate the anxious energy and use it more effectively and productively. I drive over an hour each way to see her and it's been so worth it. I originally went to see Marisa for extreme anxiety and ongoing sleep issues, after trying what felt like every modality out there: somatic exercises, journaling, therapy, BIT, meditation, breath-work...you name it. While many of those helped in their own ways, nothing truly moved the needle for me the way hypnoacupuncture with Marisa has. From my very first session, there was an obvious shift. Even the people around me noticed. After that first session, the tension in my shoulders decreased, and the only way I can describe it is that everything (physically & mentally) felt like it had been taken down a notch. Since working with her, my sleep has completely transformed. I went from having an extremely hard time falling asleep and waking up almost every hour, to now pretty much sleeping through the night. If I do wake up, I can fall back asleep easily, and I'm even dreaming a lot which I take as a sign I'm finally getting deep, restful sleep. I've seen such drastic improvements that I genuinely feel like I have a new baseline. I feel so much more in control of my anxiety now and honestly like a completely different person than I was just a few months ago. It's been truly life changing. I honestly wish I could see her weekly. The closest way I can describe how you feel leaving a session is like you just had a massage; you're so relaxed, grounded, and at ease. Marisa has truly touched my life. She is genuinely an angel. She listens, she cares deeply, and she is incredibly dedicated to her clients. If she doesn't have an answer right away, she always follows up, whether by email or the next time you see her, which says so much about the level of thought and attention she gives. I don't feel comfortable around many people, but there's something about her energy that is so light and reassuring. She creates such a safe, welcoming environment, and it makes all the difference. I'm so grateful to have found her and truly can't recommend her enough.

I've also enjoyed seeing a few of the other practice members (eg Benitez, Berg, Rodriguez), each of whom is thorough, knowledgeable, and helpful.
