My kids are multi-racial, and this county is not as diverse as other Bay Area counties, so we were thrilled to find this hidden gem, which is no longer on "A" Street behind Safeway btw. James is also a perfectionist. He also works on Sundays, which is hard to find in Marin. Actually, he works seven days a week. He ensures all his clients are satisfied with their hairstyle. My daughter was ecstatic to find James through word of mouth. She made an appointment to relax her hair before going back to College in the East Coast. The outcome was natural silky smooth hair, only a professional has this kind of finesse. I wouldn't even know where to start if I purchased hair products from a store; I barely brush or dye my own mane. James is super patient with all my questions, and I ask many questions. James will give helpful advice to my daughter on how to maintain the silkiness. She is a very satisfied customer and will return on her school breaks. If you're looking for an excellent stylist who's honest, willing to listen, communicate effectively, reliable, creative, feasible, and skillful, I highly recommend James. His work is truly impressive! 'Til next time ~ happy roots & see you on Yelp (SYOY)!

Maybe I'm not the right customer for this place, but be aware the time commitment. Edit: I changed my review to 4 stars from 2. Nothing has changed, I just don't want to discourage people from paying a visit. Self starting a business is hard and it takes a lot of commitment from the owner. I think this place has potential, but communication can be better.

There are a lot of products, plants, and service options, so you could spend an entire morning here! Emma did my blowout, and I felt totally taken care of. My hair hadn't been washed in about a week because I have it colored & am waiting for my new shower filter so that my hair doesn't get brassy from my bad water. She was so sweet, asked me what products I usually use, and I left with my hair looking as good as it did the day I got it colored. I loved the curls she added. Then I went to get my nails done, and they look better than they have in 2+ years! The quality of my French tip is amazing. I went to the store right after, and the man at the checkout counter told me he loved my nails & that they looked so clean. Thank you, ladies! I need more Saturdays like this.

At the time I have never really heard of such technique but I was intrigued because she said it was great if you want definitive layers and texture (which I did). I looked them up on Instagram and booked a spot with Marissa immediately. I went two separate times. Once for a cut, the other for balayage two weeks after. Both times I walked away extremely happy and feeling like a new woman. Marissa is extremely knowledgeable and will walk you through her thought process. Never have I felt so reassured to give someone full artistic liberties during my first visit. If you're in the market for a new salon, I would definitely recommend Marissa at Moss Hair Co. Tip: The lot on Main St and 4th Ave has $6 12 hour parking. Plenty of time for you to get your hair colored and not have to run out with foils in to add more money to the meter.

The real test of a stylist is how the haircut grows out. And by that measure, this salon's owner…read moreDarren is a Jedi warrior of hair. He gave me an American Balayage, which is like an ombré on steroids, in March at his precious salon location in Clintonville. The color grew out so beautifully and naturally that I didn't get my hair re-colored until December 1. And I only got two haircuts in those nine months because the haircut, too, grew out so nicely. I'm a graduate student, and Darren is always mindful of my budget. But because his haircuts last so darn long, I can afford to get fancier color. Also, I thought Darren was exaggerating when he said that a Brazilian Blowout would change my life. I have really frizzy hair, so a promise of "no frizz, and you'll roll out of bed every morning looking like you walked out of a salon" sounded impossible. But omg, it has seriously improved my life. No frizz, not even after CrossFit workouts in the summer humidity. I roll out of bed looking like I just had my hair done, and I have no split ends. It's ah-maze-ing. Darren is also a real sweetie, always fun to talk to and fun to watch while he's working. He works at the quick, efficient clip of someone who really knows their craft. He's the best!
