I just took Kira to have an exam and the bill was $505.35. The exam was maximum 10 minutes, it cost $113. She also had blood work done which she didn't need because of the throat diagnosis she was given that has nothing to do with blood values so the vet shouldn't have suggested it. I said yes to the bloodwork, I would have said no if I had known the cost- $392.22. I feel taken advantage of. So- I've learned the lesson that I need to ask for itemized costs first before I agree to any treatment here. ***** 5/21/24 The care Kira has received at VCA has been exemplary. I am glad I can consolidate all her care to one facility- general care, neurology- Kira had back surgery- and emergency.

The neurologist was great, very attentive, and asked that I update her via email whenever my pup had a seizure. Then, in May 2025, she took a planned 6-month leave. I found out through an automated email when I wrote to report seizure activity as instructed. There was no backup in place, prescriptions could not be refilled, and I was told to find another neurologist without a referral. I found this to be completely irresponsible and a disservice to their patients. The neurologist is now back from leave, and I have called and not received a response or follow-up. They have likely lost more patients than just us. When I called the emergency line last night for guidance on a particularly bad seizure, I was bluntly told they were at capacity (so don't come in) and to call another ER (the ER they told me to call also could not help me). I have had other good ER experiences at VCA in the past, and do not know what has changed to make good service and care nonexistent. So don't waste your precious time and your pet's care on this practice. Try Piper Memorial in Middletown or Guardian in Brewster, NY.

It's obvious there is something wrong w his mouth preventing him from eating and drinking fully. I truly believe these people wanted to just run tests to charge me money. Bc the first thing the vet said was this was going to cost few hundred dollars that I had to pay for right then and there. Never had a health care professional be concerned with payment. That not their responsibility. This was insulting as if she thought I couldn't afford it or money was something that would persuade me not to get my car care. They continued to jab my cat almost 1/2 dozen times trying to draw blood. The vet. She finally had to call a tech in. There were three techs and the vet and they were so cruel to my cat. I will never go back and half mind to call the authorities bc they have a vet who is in capable of handling animals.

The surgical experience really taught me a lot about the veterinary practice. As someone who is new to Connecticut, I wasn't sure which vet to trust. The team was clear with me at every step of the way about what was happening and would happen with my dog's treatment. They explained the pricing and charged me in alignment with their projections. My dog is happy to go to the vet now, which says a lot! Jessica and Carla at the Windsor office are welcoming and helpful.

Dr. Pennington and his crew have been my vet of choice for over 30 years. He is the best in the…read morearea and truly cares about his patients. People here have complained about the wait time and there is a reason for that wait time. Unlike other vets and animal hospitals, you will not be rushed. You are given the time needed to give your furbaby the best care possible. If it goes over the standard care time so be it. Yes others will wait but if the time comes that YOU need extra time with the vet, you will get the same excellent treatment and the time needed for your pet to be best cared for. It amazes me these days how people don't notice when there is not a revolving door for patients. He is accepting patients on and off over the year as people move etc. You'll still want to give them a call either way. If you have a question, Doctor Pennington will call you back during his phone "call back" times which is usually after 5pm est. The staff are very knowledgeable and will usually know whether or not your question can be answered over a phone call or if your furbaby would need to be seen. They have been working at the office for a very long time and if for some reason they don't know, they will check with the doctor. Regardless of how we feel about it, sometimes the questions can only be answered with the pet present and an appointment is needed. He's not going to just tell you what you want to hear. As for cost, he is actually very good for this area. And if you have a budget you need to let the staff know. They will work with you to keep within your budget and get the best care for your pet. There are almost always medication and treatment options!

The Doc is a great man he is very caring about animals, BUT, getting back to the quote for what you want done. The last visit was $300, I ended up paying for Blood work test's that is NOT what is required in the state, there is another shot that is not required it is a shot for Lyme Disease. My dog is in the house 90 % of the time, she only goes outside for her Bathroom issues, and walks down the sidewalks. I will be requesting the Rabies shot only going forward. Like I said the Doctor is a very nice man and he knows animals, but buyer be aware of unnecessary charges.
