The basic service itself was fine. They delivered as promised. But, when I tried to leave their service then they showed their "dark side". To leave their service, in theory, I needed to call them. Inform them. Then return their products. They said they only wanted their modem back, but I also had their router and I wanted to return that also. They claim that failure to return their devices would result in a $200 "charge". I did not want to have them claim that failure to return the router would result in that charge. Anyway, I was ready to return their devices. But, they have made it seemingly impossible. First, their system seemed to leave me no way to have a documentable contact with them (other than my cell-phone records). In theory they have a "chat" but it was never working. In theory I could email them, but then they wanted me to use a CenturyLink email that they provided - but I didn't have one of those, and couldn't get one because my service was terminated. So, the only way to talk to them was by phone and numerous calls were required. The last of those calls (so far) involved a documented 30 minute "on hold" to connect to a representative. The problem was that to return their devices required a return mailing label. But, I couldn't get it to print when I first tried and then later in this saga I couldn't even get into the place where the label might theoretically be printed (because my service was now cancelled). On my third and fourth calls to them the support person assured me that he would send a hard-copy mailing label so I could return the materials. But, it has not come (over a week later). On my fifth call to them (with the 30 minute wait time) the support person said the return label was sent - but it still has not arrived (almost a week after the time it was supposed to have been sent). So, getting out of their service has been very difficult and still is not over. It had been my intention to "part as friends" - with the intent to come back to CenturyLink if my new provider didn't work out. But, they have poisoned that relationship. There are a limited number of providers in our area for fiberoptic services. CenturyLink was the first, and I'm thankful that I could have their service in the past. So, I've given them two stars - which Yelp calls "Could've been better". But, we all hate the "got'cha" business approach. read more

Worst customer service ever. I was transferred 7 different times at some call center in India. All I wanted to do was move service from my current residence to my new place. I needed a technician to hook the house up for internet. They couldnt understand what I needed due to the language barrier and refused to send my call stateside. I spent two hours on the phone to no avail. I found different provider and am willing to pay $50 more. I switched to Wicked Fast Internet out of park city. They answered my call within 4 rings and had a work order ready in 15mins. read more

Bad!! I am currently a customer and find that they are too big, impersonal, uncaring and harsh as a company. Their service, if you could call it that, is barely passable. Their billing practices are difficult to manage, and I find it very important to keep a hard- paper copy of every transaction that takes place. They have repeatedly accused me of not paying my bill even though a money order is mailed from my bank to them every month. I am not letting them anywhere near my bank account. If you can find a different provider for your internet- use them instead. You will be better off in the long run. I am currently looking for a better provider. Our service tech Ricky had many years of experience and it showed. He upgraded the cable from the pole and installed a new NID on the outside of the house as a part of the service upgrade. I really liked the way he kept us informed of his arrival time within the window that was scheduled. Inside he walked us through the set up of the new modem that was free as part of our upgrade. We were not quite ready with some remodeling which included a new CAT5 line that we had run inside to the outside NID so he came back to terminate it in the NID for us. Unusual customer service techniques indeed. After a severe storm, I was kept on hold for 90 minutes simply to report their downed cable in my back yard. The CenturyLink gentleman arrived at my door and asked why he should fix the line if the felled branches were responsible for the damaged line, implying that I was behind all of the broken branches in my yard, my block, my neighborhood, my city, my greater metro area, you get the point... My new CenturyLink friend reluctantly agreed to fix the downed line "as a professional courtesy", seeing as how I am not a current CenturyLink customer. Thanks for that cleverly placed sales pitch, CenturyLink! I guess I won't be considering CenturyLink's stellar service anytime soon, but not because of the hours-long hold music or condescending interaction with their fine folks in the field. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! If you try to pay your bill with credit card they charge you $8.95 per transaction. TO PAY YOUR BILL you must pay more money. Sign up for Autopay by credit card and it too incurs $8.95 per month. If you surrender your checking account to them they waive the fee, but then you lose any credit card protection you have in case they ever get hacked. There is nothing good to say about Centurylink. The product we signed up for promised up to 7 Mbps download. I guess by "up to," they mean "will never ever ever approach 7 Mbps." We didn't reach 2.5 Mbps 99% of the time. And don't even get me started on Dish Network, which appropriately came with Centurylink. What a pair. It's akin to Trump and Hillary tying the knot. Deplorable "customer service" that hasn't actually solved anything for me. Ever. They don't answer questions, nor do they offer customers any reason to stay. However, when you tell them you're firing them, they transfer you to the Retention Team. The fact that Centurylink even wastes their money on employing a Retention Team is absurd. To whom it may concern, When signing up for CenturyLink's service, their sales rep advised that I was entering into a service agreement. As long as I maintained some service, I would be able to make any changes to the packages that I had with them, etc. I also had 30 days to be able to decide if I liked the service or not, and I could cancel at any point within those 30 days for any reason without any penalty. I originally signed up for PrismTV, and Fiber internet. In the first few weeks of service, I had nothing but problems with the service. In less that 3 months that I've had the service, I've had to call them a number of times, 2/15, 2/16, 2/18, 2/24, 3/17, 5/3, and 5/4. Finally, in order to get my internet to be stable their representative advised me that I should cancel Prism to free up bandwidth. After the representative confirmed that this would not cause me any additional charges, I agreed to drop the TV package from my service. Again, They advised me that I would see no additional fee. My next bill had no fee. However, the one following that included a $220 Early Termination Fee. A bit shady if you ask me. Why wouldn't they just put it on the next one? Probably because they know that you're looking at that one. Upon seeing this charge I have contacted them a number of additional times. This is when the 5/3, and 5/4 contacts come into play. Only to be transferred around, the buck be passed, wasting more and more of my life that I will never get back. I finally chatted in to get something in writing. Their chat rep told me that if I called in tomorrow that they would credit fee and provided me with numbers to contact and said that they would notate my account after refusing to allow me to speak to supervisor, the chat rep eventually ended up disconnecting the chat. Now, I'm not usually that customer who treats people like garbage. But, this is the single company that can make even the most pleasant people in the world turn into the devil. Trust me, I get it.. When you can actually reach somebody, which is not often as their hours are very limited, there is nobody that you can reach that cares about helping their customer at all. They won't take ownership, they don't live up to their promises, they don't make it right for the customer, and they are sneaky about the way that they try and charge their customers. It's hands down, the worst customer experience that I have EVER received. All I'm trying to do is get a fee that I wasn't supposed to be charged reversed. The business will make more money off of maintaining my account over the next 2 years than they will by getting this fee right now anyway. But you know what?.. At this point, I literally have more than 4 hours of contact time with their company in the last 2 days and have reached 0 resolution. Their customer service is deplorable and I think they pick people off the street to work their technical support because I somehow know more than them, for example a cable line running to my house that has worked for almost 9 months didn't suddenly become to short by shrinking in the sun to the point of "barely hanging on". I had centurylink internet service for 4 years and half, and during that time I had several issues that I was willing to be patience and understanding about the situation, but having no service for more than a week, and have a technician come to my house refused to work on my line because I tree fall on it, which it was my neighbor tree, however his services got connected but not mine. my neighbor that also have centurylink got his service connected and not mine. Horrible company to work with. They are not willing to see their mistake and try to resolve the situation as soon as possible. Well today they got fired. We've requested to be on auto pay 4 times and still nothing. We've called them asking to be put on auto pay and reception always insists that we're on it and then boom 5 billion late fees. I tried to reschedule a transfer of service and instead of transferring they ended up creating a completely new account for me, the next day the tech shut the internet off completely & left a very rude voicemail, I then called and explained what was going on the customer service said they fixed it- tried to get on the internet for a meeting and it was completely shut off. CenturyLink is the literally the worst. It took 3 years for them to let me return their equipment. I had CenturyLink for just one day and cancelled since they had lied about speeds in my area. I was on their free cancellation time frame and was told I had to wait for a free label to send back. 3 years later, talking with over 15 agents, being sent to collections for said equipment, told to go to the wrong warehouse, and finally being told I could return item to a retail store in 2018, I sent it back. I then had to follow up since the collection agency who said they could not take off fee (which they said they could earlier) and CenturyLink had to be the ones even if the equipment showed as delivered. We have had century link on an off for many years. The best I can say about them is that IF the service is working, it is average at best and if it's down, GOOD LUCK contacting customer service. You can sign up online but if you need a problem fixed or if you need to cancel your service, be prepared to spend the day on hold as they devote no money to taking care of existing customers. Additionally, their employees are dishonest and over the years have bold face lied to me and to my wife, sold us services that we did not request I assume to make a commission. I was downloading a TV show while watching a Netflix movie and wouldn't ya know, the Netflix movie became really pixelated and horrible. IT"S 2012 and this is all my crappy DSL can handle? Unfortunately, comcast/xfinity isn't available in my building but I never had that crappy of download with them, actually it was usually pretty dang fast. So we pay $20 a month for a 12mb download speed but I can only imagine that the execs at Century link didn't pass 1st grade because by 12mb they actually mean 5mb if no one else in your neighborhood is using their DSL and if they are it's maybe 2mb. Their upload is like .2mb. What the hell man, South Koreans living in huts get faster download and upload speeds, seriously they do!! Their customer service is ridiculous and you HAVE to use their wireless router which pisses me off because I have a really nice Apple router that also backs up my computer. So I am running both but the they clash because both are trying to send out the IP addresses to my devices. Oh, did I mention DSL SUUUUUUUUCKS. read more

WORST possible service I have EVER had. I thought Comcast's customer service sucked.... NOPE centurylink blows that out of the water. They shut your service off the DAY BEFORE your bill is due. When you try to call them they will transfer you around to a ton of different departments. Theh don't care about customer satisfaction, I called to find out how to return the modem and they told me they were going to send an email to my email on file..... still haven't received that.. it's been over a month! They acted like they didn't even care I wanted to leave their company... They are only open Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm.... seriously? So let's shut your services off the day before it's due, on a Saturday, and you can't call to fix their mess up until Monday???? Really? They apparently set me up with paperless billing, which I never said to, and then NEVER received a statement in my email or anything. Only emails I ever got were the ones telling me my services were interrupted. From the beginning it's been a joke! The technician had to run a new wire, and said I was going to get 12mb... on average I was lucky to get 1!!!!! Was unable to stream, unable to have multiple devices connected. 90% of the time it was better to use my cellular service than the internet, which is saying a lot because where I live you HAVE to have WiFi or you can't do anything!!!! Their customer service after the name change really took a dive. I have no problem with their network, though. I have always had great service- except when they disconnect my service two weeks before the bill due date. It's happened to me twice now. The bill states the amount due, and the due date- like any normal bill would. Then they cut my service two weeks before. They claim the due date listed is for new charges, and I need to call for past charges. I should point out that my "past due" amount was for account adjustments they made after I paid my bill from last month. One was 1.37, the other 3.13. I received the next month's bill showing the few dollars added to my current charges. Silly me paying on the due date. They then hit me with a $25 reconnection fee each time, which they refused to waive. When they cut my service, they sent me an email that stated I needed to pay my bill and then call, chat, or reply to the email in order to reconnect the service. Since it was a Thursday evening, I replied to the email. By Tuesday my service was still out. I called the number. After not being able to verify my account (they didn't have my social saved, so I had to know the EXACT amount of my last bill, or the EXACT date of install- I barely remember my kids' birthdays and my anniversary, I didn't really note the date of my internet install in my diary.) They finally let me in, and said they'd have it up in 2-24 hours. I asked why it wasn't already up, and the operator told me I had to call. I explained the email gave three options for contact. She said I was wrong, and the email didn't say that. I asked if she had an address I could sent a copy of the email to, since I was looking right at it! She said no, she would note it on my account. They do not have any regard for customer service. I will be switching to Xmission (same network-which I am happy with, but better service). Also, the Centurylink chat function NEVER works. Poor customer service. Why would you do business with a company who does not support their customers. It is nearly impossible to reach a live person at any time of the day or night. Automated systems and their website offer little help if any. One by one, my entire family discontinued service with CenturyLink due to POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE and now finally I have just cancelled my service too. If you have a problem on the bill, such as an error they created, you have no recourse other than to pay it even though it is incorrect. You can't reach anyone to resolve the problem. If you just omit the charge and pay the balance, then your next bill will include double late fees for telephone service and internet service. You still can't reach a live customer service person to correct the error and remove the unjust late fees. They force you into either pay or get in deeper with late fees and interest every month until you lose the service. Then they start collection procedures. You still can't reach a live person. Any sane person would never do business with such a dishonest company. DO NOT think you will end up any different. I was one of those who believed it wouldn't happen to me because I was a loyal customer for 10 years. Well, it happened and they could care less and are happy to lose me as a customer.
