We received a call about 7:00 pm advising us of this problem. I immediately returned to our unit closed and locked it. We have had unit for three years and have always be impressed by the cleanliness and upkeep of the facilities.

When we emptied our unit last week, 1/7/23 many of our storage totes had signs of bug feces (brown dots) we did also see at least one baby American Cockroach alive. My experience with ending my rental was also less than wonderful. While pulling in to the driveway, the manager stopped to speak to a man in a truck in front of us in the middle of the drive. We could not go around to continue. I beeped my horn and the man in the truck told me to wait a minute, while the manager on his golf cart just stared at me, not moving or directing the other person to pull over to talk. I looked at the manager and said "can you please tell him to move" to which I was met with a long blank stare. Finally the man in the truck pulled into a parking space so I could keep driving. I was also not aware that they do not prorate the ending month, it was not explained when we moved in. I was told by the manager that had we moved out by the 5th we would have been refunded for the rest of the month. Then, when I contacted them back he told me the 6th was the cut off. When he processed my move out, he processed it on the 8th, not the actual date of move out. When I asked to speak to the area manager, I was called back by her with an attitude and a matter of fact lack of customer service. When I asked to speak to someone higher than her, she told me she was it. I asked if she was the owner of the company, she replied no, it's a corporation and they do not speak to customers. I continued to state that it's a bit of double dipping to keep my money and know that they can turn around a rerent the same unit for the remainder of the month and get paid double. Her response was, yes that is exactly what we can do. Needless to say, I am out the remainder of the month of January and they get to pocket the profit from potentially two renters for this unit. The service is less than stellar, the manager really lacks luster when it comes to customer service and cannot answer many questions without having to get the answer from someone else. The pricing for this location is extremely high, now that I've been able to look around more and they hide their rules in the rental agreement and don't explain key information. They will prorate your move in date, but not your move out.

The only drawback is that they don't have carts for the customers to use. (If they had them available to borrow it would make this place even better.) Apparently they had some issue with a water surge. I had noticed some humidifiers in the hallways and thought nothing of it. When I went to move my things out of the unit I noticed many of my boxes were soggy on the bottom. Then I saw mine and my daughters brand new mattresses. Destroyed. Water damage and moldy. My daughters baby pictures and coming home from the hospital outfit not to mention the pictures from my childhood that are not replaceable. Storage Zones response, "We've never had problem in over 20 years so we don't carry that type of insurance." They would not give me a manager's info. They said I had to email customer service. Which I have twice. Just for answers. They have had no empathy in this process. Patrick is the only one there that will speak with me and he "can't" provide manager information. BUT believe me they called me a week later because my lock is still on the unit. Just be careful. I would hate for your treasured belonging to be destroyed and not covered because of this companies carelessness and their complete lack of remorse. NOT EVEN A SORRY WHAT CAN WE DO TO MAKE THIS RIGHT. NOTHING.

Never renting here again they have lied to me and my family on multiple of occasions on when we can…read moreget our things out of storage due to us being late on payment and then turns out when they said we had time to get our things that we actually never did have time that they had already cut our lock and locked us out when they were saying we could still go in and get our things and they said everything is in the contract we signed when first getting the unit but we never sign a contract the only thing we had signed was the payment and insurance agreement that's it we were never emailed or give this so called contract. So I would watch out before you lose your things to this place.

The worst part was we actually had a dead rat in our partially opened suitcase that almost fell out on my head. They treat a loyal customer by jacking up their rent to around $280 a month for a 10x20 outside unit while a new customer can get the same one with first month free and $143 a month!!
