I am genuinely surprised to see any positive reviews of this management company. We have been waiting over a week for responses to a standard questionnaire required to go into contract on the sale of our apartment. After multiple follow-ups, Rachel Barrera finally replied days later with a curt message citing a policy that requests must be submitted through a portal with a fee, which we had already done. She was somehow unaware of this. Aurora Geci has been entirely unresponsive, and Erald Ramaj merely said he would "look into it," with no follow-through. I have worked with many organizations and have never encountered a team that struggles so much to complete such a basic task. This is extremely poor customer service. read more

One star is a compliment. I would much rather live in a building without any management service than be in a place where Century Management is involved. They are incompetent, never pick up phone calls, and don't respond to emails. Communication is minimal, if it exists at all, especially when issues occur in the building. Instead of making genuine efforts to improve their service, this management group had the audacity to ask me to remove my review. Apparently, "Negative reviews affect people's impressions of us." Do you like unresponsive ownership/management? What about three new management companies during a one-year lease so you never know who to reach out to? Love writing emails 50% of the days for your lease without resolution (186 emails)? Awakened at 11 pm by building staff for an unauthorized entry as they thought the unit was vacant? Are you an endurance fighter to pay rent or receive your security deposit back? How about unreliable access to the building? Threats of ConEd shutting off electric to the building? If these sound like you, don't hesitate to apply for an apartment at 2211 3rd avenue aka 210 E 121st Street. If you'd like to keep your sanity and save time/energy, RUN, RUN as far away as you can from this ownership and these management companies (Except Choice NY Management, they were exceptional). Unresponsive management across two management companies: Century Management Services (Jul - Dec 21) & First Service Residential (Jan 22 - Aug 22). HAP Investment owns this building, and they are just as much at fault for the mismanagement as the management companies hired. The building is advertised with a lot of amenities some of which are quite nice, others not so much. In unit laundry? Joke of a machine, you can do a kids basket worth of laundry. Get ready to wash all the damn time. Parking isn't 'connected' with the building and not 24 hours. Doorman, was M-F 8am-5pm, then Sat 2pm-10pm and Sun 3pm-11pm. In Jan the weekday doorman left & weekend was promoted. Rafael was/is great! He gives personalized service and works inside the confinement the building places on his role. No replacement of weekend doorman and with the lack of reliable entry to the building, a full-time doorman should be a must. Package room when I left was under strict lock and key as the door sticks and instead of fixing it, the management (First Service Residential) blames the residents for stealing packages and restricts access. Entry to the building via the Butterfly system seemed great at first until, you realize there is no keyed entry and that system they rely on, isn't very reliable. What does that mean? Well, if the power or internet go down, you can't gain access to the building. Wait a second....how is that possible? Great question, great question. The building is connected to a garage so if that is open, you can walk down and get into the cellar. Open 6a -10p M-F, 7a-5p Sat, closed Sun. So, good luck if you like to party late or take weekend trips. Jan 22 - Jul 22, the system was down 41 days. Hence the reason for a full-time doorman. Up first, Century Management Services began the lease in tandem with Nest Seekers (leasing agent). Upon arrival, walked into an uncleaned apartment, with a mop bucket in the middle of the kitchen, smoke alarm chirping, bathroom lights needing replace and of course, nothing requested done prior to move in. September 23rd, 2021, at 11pm the front door to the unit was opened w/key and quickly shut with the security latch in place. I reached out to the sup to find out they were checking empty apartments?!? At 11pm on a Thursday?!? While the management did apologize, however, Mr. Kadry w/Century requested I provide proof of my deposit?!?!? Again....WTF, how do you not have these items? Activate endurance fighter. The lease included four months free, Nest Seekers said these could be amortized over the term of the lease. 1st month w/deposit paid in Jul....and couldn't pay again until Oct. Why? Well, 1st, counter signed lease wasn't done until late September (wait...what?!?!), 2nd the Click Pay system wasn't set up and no other option provided. So Oct had not 1...but 2 payments to catch up on. Like to budget your monthly expenses? Throw that out the window here. The entire time of the lease my ledger never balanced. Dec 21, notice on the building from ConEd that there was an outstanding electrical bill over $200K and the building electric would be shut off if not resolved. Sent to management and guess what? Crickets....never heard anything. read more

I moved into my building on Dec. 3rd 2021 and reached out to Century Management about the moving deposit on Dec. 14th. After numerous emails and calls, I still haven't received an update on the status of my money from Management Associate, Christine Lorenzini. I have been trying to reach one of the property managers, Adam Zerka, for over two months to get refunded our move-out deposit after leaving one of their managed properties, but to no avail. It is absolutely insane that this remains outstanding. Apparently reaching out to their President, Mitchell Barry, does not work as well. It is my experience that Century Management is is an extremely negligent, dishonest, exploitative company. I advise you to not live in any of their buildings. I and many other tenants at their Lincoln Sponsor development have had a good number of problems that are health hazards and the fault of management's negligence, greed, and lack of empathy. This includes ubiquitous cigarette smoke, a massive vermin infestation throughout the building, and a nightclub on premises that regularly hosts loud parties at all hours of the night. We have notified various members of the management staff over the years about these and other persistent problems. The management team has defaults to unresponsiveness, defensiveness, or sheer incompetence depending on the day. Health concerns are routinely ignored and/or handled in a negligent manner. Some tenants report having contacted the owners and have been met with zero response. That has been my experience too. Also, it has been me experience that manage regularly provides false information and has practiced both discrimination against rent-controlled units and retaliatory practices when a person does point out their management shortcomings. If you seek habitable and equitable living accommodations, I recommend you look elsewhere and do not rent from Century. I have maintained years of documented proof of these issues. I've had nothing but good results working with Century NY, my brother has a 3 story in Brooklyn and when ever something has come up on our property we have had almost immediate response to our issues. Billing and payment have been easy as ever. Moving to New York one of my biggest worries was finding a great place to live in a good neighborhood and it's been great living with my brother in Brooklyn. I've been a shareholder in one of the Brooklyn properties managed by them for quite some time... During 7 years nothing has changed, they don't have a proper customer service, it takes weeks for them to respond about the issues and some requests still stay unanswered so as the issues that still need to be fixed. The property managers keep changing like gloves and the wrong people keep coming to the board. This management collects high fees with a very few managing so I wouldn't advise this company to any building. read more

This is the WORST managing agent for cooperative apartments as there's a laundry list of endless ongoing problems. Our building's contact person took an eternity to return any shareholders' phone calls. The only way to reach someone when issues arise with another shareholder in our building was via certified mail with return receipt. Our property manager was rarely on site in our building when there was any pressing issues. Century Management Services Inc. as a company put us in a state of despair with issues lacking parking space, laundry room facilities out of order and insufficient dryers, disrepair of building's structure, the increasingly elevator(s) problems, dilapidated hallway carpeting, dilapidated facade, doorman unattended due to lunch and dinner breaks. The entire doorman team takes lunch at the same time everyday for one hour leaving the building's cooperative shareholders unattended and unsecured. No security! This company disregard shareholders' voices as my former love and I were NEVER acknowledged nor dutifully respected. As a life-long NYer, I think I have a particularly valid and credible POV re: residential building management. At a time when management companies are cutting corners, using the pandemic as an excuse, Century has not. Just the opposite, in fact. Ozzy is Century's point-person at my building. He's actively and legitimately bringing the word "luxury" back into the building. His predecessor let this building fall into virtual anarchy and disarray. Just like Rome wasn't built in a day, these positive changes and upgrades undertaken by Ozzy haven't happened in one day, either. But the trajectory, and general trend is upward, and that's what matters. In my interactions with him, Ozzy's been frank, transparent and HONEST. What more can you ask from a manager who inherited a mess? But a mess this building is not, anymore. #CreditOzzy read more

These guys are just everything but professional. Their building is seriously the worst place I have ever lived in. On first impression everything looks great and neat, but as soon as you step a little closer you see how cheap and poorly this place was really built. We were the first tenants in our apartment and were pretty baffled with the things that added up over time: 1) pretty much no heat insulation, the place gets incredibly warm in the summer and then freezing cold in the winter (the heaters are a joke and can not be controlled independently between the bedroom and the living which was about 3-4 times the space with the same heater installed. 2) our fridge broke down and it took a good 3-4 weeks until it has finally been fixed 3) we had a leak in the living room which never got fixed, the building just took a look and joked about having never seen a worse roof job. The building is way overpriced, and management does not care about anything but their money. Moving out was a joke, first we had to reserve an elevator for $250 and then got charged an additional $500 for not moving within their time window (the apartment was definitely vacated on time) Avoid Century Management at all cost, it is not worth the hassle! read more

While I can't comment on fee structure or higher level business practices I can say that Century Management are slow, incompetent and frustrating to deal with. At closing, it took them 40 minutes to send some papers to the bank due to their slow emailing system. The office manager happily took our extra $150 when the closing went past 5pm but kept us all waiting extra time because she stacked up all the documents then forgot to fax them - or its their policy to leave that until last, which makes no sense. The delays encountered during approval of renovations were appalling to say the least. There was a three week turn around for approval once we had agreed on the scope of the work. The whole process took a mind blowing 3 months before we could even start renovations. I had friends tell me that this is the worst experience they had ever seen with a management company. Like Judith I will be active in trying to get our building to move to another management company in the future. read more

One of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had with Jennifer Pestano on their team. I had automatic pay turned on for my rent every month for two years and one month, there was a glitch in the payment providers system and they did not process the payment. Century NY did not care about the glitch and said that it was my fault for the missed payment and tried charging me $75. Jennifer was nasty, rude, and accused me of lying several times. She also provided incorrect information and would not reverse the charge. Luckily, my landlord was completely understanding and removed the charge from my bill. Would never rent from an apartment that uses Century again. read more

Buying a unit managed by this company was the worst decision made in my life. I bought the unit in 2005. The closing was a nightmare which took 9 months. I sold my share in December 2015, I was supposed to get back a year of management fee which they held in escrow when I bought the unit. I have been emailing the president and all departments and never heard a word from them. I have no choice but to hire a lawyer to get the money back for me. A waste of my time and money. read more

I've lived in a Co-op for over 20 years and have seen some bad property managers in that time. But these folks are your worst nightmare--unprofessional, ignorant, incompetent, dishonest, insulting, vindictive...Thanks to their accounting errors, I'm being threatened with eviction--but it gets worse. They hit up my brother--who's neither a shareholder, a resident nor someone authorized to act or speak for me-- demanding he pay alleged "arrears," and lying to him about the circumstances. They pound on my door without notice demanding to inspect the premises for no reason. They fail to maintain the building's general plumbing system and then try to pit shareholders against each other in battles over who must pay for the damage resulting from leaks in the pipes between apartments. (The Co-op's Proprietary Lease squarely makes this a responsibility of the Co-op and thus the managing agent, not individual shareholders.) And I've barely even begun. Can property managers get much worse? I have to believe that Century is less expensive than most; otherwise I can't imagine why our Co-op Board would've ever brought them on or kept them. That said, it's enough already. We'd be much better off with no property manager at all if we can't afford better than this. read more

My experience with Century living for many years as an owner/tenant in a coop that Century manages has been terrible. Although 99% of the apartments are held by owners, they act in the capacity as a slumlord towards tenants. Their onsite people never heard a lie they didn't like. Throughout the renovation process, there's been no consideration nor follow up on their end. You literally have to send them multiple emails to get any sort of response or sometimes they just don't respond at all. You'd think as an owner, they'd have a sense of urgency because they work for you. Wrong! With the unnecessary stress that comes with dealing with this company, I wish I'd purchased a different place altogether. I'm conflicted about writing a bad review because I don't want this to have a negative impact on the resale value of my apt, but I think prospective owners/renters should know so they can take this into consideration when they think about moving into one of their properties. read more

I have had the pleasure of working with Century for the past year and have only good things to say about their staff, their systems and their financial reports. As Treasurer of a 280 unit co-op in Midtown East, it is good to have a strong partner to oversee capital projects, handle sales/sublets and handle the day to day operations of our full service building amongst other tasks. Everyone who I've worked with at Century I have found to be responsive, knowledgeable and able to answer our questions or find out the answer in a timely fashion. Our board is very active and diligent and we were happy to renew our agreement with Century. I personally have dealt with Mitchell Barry-president, Phil Cohen- CPA , Adam Zerka-senior account executive ,Janel Thomas- assistant property maanager and Marta Peralta in the closing deparment. As mentioned previously, they have all been very professional and great to partner with. During the past year, Century has upgraded their systems and have instituted a board portal where we are now able to view important documents online. Our residents have the ability to pay their maintenance electronically and by credit card as well as submit a maintenance request online. If you are looking to switch management companies or hire your first one, I would direct you to call Century. You will not be disappointed! read more

This is the single most sleazy management company I have had in my 20 years of living in apartments (this one I own). This company has single handedly brought down the quality of life in my building in Brooklyn. The President, Mitchell Barry, is deceitful (it all starts from the top) and his staff are completely incompetent. I live in a luxury building with excellent staff. Century has brow beaten them for a year. He told our beloved head concierge "If I tell you to get on your hands and knees to scrub the floors, you will do that." This is the president of a company - and he said it to a woman who has given her all to this building for 6 years and has done impeccable work. Oh, and he said this in front of her Union rep. All she did was question him and our woefully inadequate 27 year old Super which is another story entirely) and 27 year old Managing Agent that is invisible mostly (his actions generally are about "the cover up." The company is unresponsive, has degraded our staff, and is all but invisible unless there is a tragedy, then they appear to "cover up" their mistakes. Under their tenure we have incurred costs that have brought up our common charges and brought down our amenities. I bought a luxury condo and I am treated like I rent a shack. I have called them with comments (suggesting that we have escalation procedures, staff job descriptions, and get the super some basic training on what it means to be a super and manager) since the first month they began and the President himself treated me like I was a misbehaving child. It's been a year, and like I said prior, it's been all downhill. Our building has suffered, owners have suffered, and the staff have suffered - all I want is for them to be GONE so we can try and rebuild. Oh, and if you have a problem with them get evidence of that problem. Our super is claiming OT that is false, so we are building a case for falsification of hours and hopefully getting the proper authorities to act on our behalf. read more
