My computer worked better than ever, until now, but nothing to do with his work, but more the fault of Microsoft. I run Windows 10 which I find fine, BUT Microsoft decided I need Windows 11 and installed it without my authority. Many of my apps dont work with !! so I tried to revert back to Windows 10 which I have done before. This time I got the blue screen of death upon startup, and seemingly no way out without my Authorizing Key, which of course I didn't have. so again I called Dean. As usual he performed his magic and was able to located them very promptly and again I'm up and running with Windows 10. Dean is extremely knowledgeable, helpful and a pleasure to deal with. I am ok on computer knowledge be he is a "Computer Guru" and I would highly recommend him if you want things done right.

I recently went to MysteryByte because I needed an extension cord for my PSU. Fairly simple, I…read morecalled ahead of time, they put it aside for me and I told them I would pick it up in a jiffy. The problem was, once I arrived on site, I got a look at the cable and noticed that it was potentially a little shorter than what I was looking for and asked if it would be okay if I brought my PC in so I could eyeball the length in front of my tower, which I just happened to have on me in my vehicle. The gentleman told me no problem. The problem was that when I came back to the store, I was greeted by two other men who started telling me sardonically "don't you have some place else to do this? Just buy the cable and take it back." I responded essentially just saying that I had asked the other employee if this was okay and that it was just easier rather than buying a cable, going to the car and checking, and potentially returning it. The man with no mask and the stained t-shirt ultimately just kept repeating himself asking me if I had some other place to do this at and that I shouldn't be doing it there, et cetera while the others stood around. I found them to be incredible unprofessional and overly aggressive. I told him I would just go to another store and walked out. You would think for a store so filthy and sparse, their customer service would be exceptional but I will not be returning to this store and will only speak of this incident where I felt incredibly put off. I found they acted unnecessarily aggressively and unprofessional.

The staff is knowledgable, but doesn't feel the need to talk down to you. If you're a student, this is a great place for you to have repairs done to your computer or printer. Their rates are pretty good and in my experience, I've ended up paying less here than I would have, had I taken it to a non-Dal affiliated shop. They estimate about $30 for PC repairs and about $60 for laptop repairs. They can also provide students with new batteries for their laptops, as well as power cords and a slew of other computer related accessories. They often have to order the parts in, so expect to wait a few days for your request to be filled. As a student, I took my laptop to these folks a few times. They are sometimes able to to provide warranty covered repairs, charging the company instead of you - but that's something you'll have to ask about. Be prepared to show your proof of purchase or warranty info if you're hoping to skip paying the bill. Hardware Services is a great Dalhousie resource. Take advantage while you can, Dal kids!

I brought my Mac in for what I thought was a hardware issue, and it turned out it was software which is not covered by warranty, but even though she had it for a few days and tested and repaired everything on my gigantic hard drive, I was shocked at how reasonable the fee was. I've been charged more than double for much, much less at other computer service places. I was also very impressed with the level of communication they encouraged between myself and them. They totally understand that people are in a mad rush to get their computers back, and every time I phoned them, they took time to explain exactly what they knew so far, what they were doing next, and told me when to call back (sometimes just a few hours later) It's so nice to be kept in the loop.
