Went here for dinner with my bestie, so glad we did! It was pretty dark when we walked in. We waited to be sat. The waitress was very attentive. I ordered some guacamole to start, which was really good. For dinner I had the Frijolada with Shrimp. It looks like a lot of food when it comes out but I guess I was hungry because I finished it all. IT WAS SO GOOD!!! I was waiting for the Flamingo dancers to come out while I was eating, lol. It is spicy but mixed with everything just right. Definitely can't wait to go back and try brunch! My first experience with Centro was during a Raleigh Food Tour. We were impressed and definitely wanted to come back for the full experience! The service was amazing - our dining companions were vegan and the server was incredibly accommodating and made several suggestions.My husband and I will eat pretty much anything, so we asked the server for his suggestion and went with the enchiladas. You get 3 (chicken, steak, bean) all topped with different sauces. They were quite delicious. We will definitely be back! read more

Food was great. Much variety on the menu. On the spicy side. AMAZING service. I had a bit of egg shell in my entree, at the end of eating my meal. It wasn't pleasant but because I was done, I didn't think it was a big deal. I let them know, information sake only. They were SO nice about it. The driest caritas tacos I have ever eaten, would it kill someone to add more sauce to these? Well, even without the adequate amount of sauce the meat was overcooked. The décor is sweet and our server was nice so it wasn't terrible. read more

Wow.. I'm from California and for the past 2 years my husband and I have been looking, looking for a great little place like this. Great tacos, tamales, rice and black beans. Yum! I was really disappointed with my first visit here. They were having a private event so they sat us upstairs where it was freezing cold. Our waiter did not check up on us very often since he was downstairs most of the time. Our food was okay, but the portions were quite small for the price. And they charge for chips and salsa which is just ridiculous. Not willing to try it again. read more

Considering I work across the street, I really regret not coming in here sooner! Great price points for a good amount (filling) of food, and it was awesome food. Food is great. We had a private party for a birthday and they had the whole upstairs party room. The staff was fabulous. They had no trouble splitting checks for everyone (we had a huge group) and they were very attentive with beverages. They had pitchers of margs set up on a table as well as water and came around very often refilling and taking orders. Atmosphere and decor is about a 4 star but the food was disappointing. The decor was really cute and there was always something to look at on the wall or tables. I ordered the chilaquiles verdes with shrimp or should I say the chilaquiles Alfredo. The authentic Mexican dish is served with a tomato based verde salsa but what I got was some sort of hodgepodge stew with Alfredo type sauce. The sauce was pretty much heavy cream based and the chips were way too soggy like they were there all day. Thankful I added te shrimp on there so I could at least eat all five shrimp and leave the rest. I left the whole meal and the server didn't even ask why I didn't eat it or if I wanted to take it to go. I so recommend the queso ! If I go back I would definitely order something different. read more

This is not your typical Mexican joint, so don't go there if you're wanting a giant plate of burritos or tacos. This is "Mexican inspired" fare. and it's delicious. I've been there three times and each time ordered something different. I even ordered lamb and I DON'T EAT LAMB! Nevertheless it was amazing. The right mix of flavors and textures. I tried this place for a friends b-day in Dec of 2012. 6 months later and I have eaten here 4 times. I LOVE THIS PLACE. And every time I go back I take friends and they fall in love w/ it too. 1st...The salsa is the best I've ever had!!! Seriously, you are gonna want to take some home with you for the next day because you will crave it for the rest of your life. I would recommend the cheese dip, it is delightful. I have had the fish tacos, surf & turf and the ribs. Everything was AWESOME. I am working my way thru the menu and loving every minute of it. We've been here several times and therefore knew about the yummy food. However, it appears that management has decided to use their large front window to express their political views. Between the 'Stop Islamic Profiling' and HB2 signs it was a bit off putting. If there is one place I'd like to be safe from the reminders of social issues it's a restaurant. We have enjoyed meals at Dos Taquitos on Creedmore for many years and looked forward to their opening downtown. Alas, Centro is a disappointment. The margaritas are bottled mix ordinary and I'd have to say the same for all of our food. the Chile en Nogada was nearly flavorless as was the Carnitas. This was our second try at Centro and I think we'll head to North Raleigh for our next Mexican fix. read more

The horchata is reason enough to go. It's different and complements the food even after you've doused it in hot sauce. It's helpful that everything else is quite good as well. For lunch, I think that their steak option is more flavorful than the chicken option when you have it. The texture of the tamales is divine and the sauces are crave-worthy but the chicken filling needed something else. The steak in the tacos was well seasoned and barley needed the other delicious things tucked into the tortilla. Their quac is fresh while their chips are the thick crunchy kind that are tasty in their own right. In a word, yum! read more

Went to Centro during first friday in Raleigh. The food was very good but a little on the smaller side I had tacos de pescado which was mahi mahi that night which were delicious. My real only complaint would be the mariachi band playing so loud inside, I was on a date and it was very hard to enjoy a conversation, so we had to leave earlier then we would of liked. read more
