I have danced with CDA for many years, so I have a lot of experience with myself and my parent doing business with them. When I was younger, I loved to dance and my parents took me to CDA. It was great. I loved everything about. My friend and I both switched studios a couple years ago to focus more on Ballet. Thinking back on it, I wished I had switched sooner. First of all, coming out of CDA (and if you watch the recital videos you will know what I mean), I had horrible technique. To this day, I fall back into my old habits of not caring to point my feet, etc. Next, (as you can see by reading other reviews), the staff were very nice. Almost too nice. On average I would get 1-2 corrections. Sometimes I would even try to mess up a combo or do something horribly wrong, and nobody even batted an eye. Since they are such a large company, the class sizes are gigantic (10-15+ people) all crammed into a tiny studio. Basically CDA is good for Tap and Jazz, but not for ballet or safety for Pointe or if you want to professionally pursue dance. Also, they have a competition team. Everybody in the studio gets invited to the competition team (CDT) after completing 2 years of Tap and Jazz (and they make it seem like CDT is such an exclusive group). It costs an average of $14,000 a year, which would be decent if the team was good. After looking online at the competitions that CDT went to, CDT rarely even got in the top 20 dances and consistently got "Best Costume award" and other participation awards. After carefully observing recital videos and watching classes, I can tell you that CDA is not safe if you want to go en pointe. Basically, in pointe shoes, a dancer is balancing on her first two toes. This requires a lot of ankle strength, or else the dancer can get seriously injured. If you are reading this and work at CDA please look at the 2012 Stage and Screen pointe performance by high school girls that had to do with Harry Potter. Correct me if I am wrong, but people are giving up and going on demi pointe instead of a full releve. Also (especially in piques) people are bending their knees to get onto their boxes before rising up. Both of these are common indicators of weak ankles/poor training. I believe that CDA is a great school for toddlers and elementary scholars. When it comes to being a company that produces quality professional dancers, I don't think that this is the place to go. Trust me, I know professional dancers very well because currently I am at my dorm in New York for the School of American Ballet winter program. SAB is the sub-school for New York City Ballet. (And Ms. Kathy, I really don't want to see on your site that your dancers have gone onto SAB or NYCB because at the studio that I went to after yours, I had to take private lessons to correct the lack-luster technique you gave me). So please, be my guest, go to CDA. But just be aware of what you are signing up for. read more

My daughter has been dancing at CDA since she was 4, and she has been on the competition team for the past 3 years. As a parent, I am most interested in raising a happy, well-rounded, kind child. And, CDA helps me accomplish all of these. Is it the most competitive studio in the area? No. Other local studios perform better in competitions, there's no denying that. However, CDA/CDT allows my daughter to dance competitively without taking over her entire life. She still has time to do her homework, get enough sleep, and have time for friends and family events. She looks forward to competitions and recital, because she knows that as long as she works hard and does her best, everyone will be happy with her performance. No one is asking her to lose weight, get spray tans, or compromise herself in any way (ie costumes are always tasteful and age-appropriate - my 9 year-old has never been asked to perform in bedazzled Victoria's Secret lingerie like SO MANY OTHER little girls do in the competitive dance arena). Have you seen Dance Moms? CDA is the opposite. From everything I have witnessed, their main goal and objective is to nurture a love of dance in young children. I also love that they embrace and welcome dancers who have differences in some way - Autism Spectrum, Down Syndrome, etc. These children dance alongside my "typical" child, and the lessons she is learning/has learned at CDA far exceed fancy French ballet terminology (although she learns that, as well). Over the years, we've also participated in the summer camps, and my daughter has a blast there; they've always been the perfect blend of dance instruction and fun. read more

My daughter, now 13, has danced at Centreville Dance Academy since she was 2 1/2. The teachers there truly foster a love for dance. The teachers have consistently encouraged a love for dancing and have facilitated continuous growth for my daughter without all of the competitive push that I've seen at other studios. Because of their careful nurturing of her love for dance, I see continuous growth in my daughter. She intrinsically pushes herself to grow as a dancer and learner with their guidance. My daughter LOVES to dance at CDA because of the teachers, friendships, and support of the amazing families that dance there. I also take dance classes as an adult at CDA. I LOVE my weekly adult tap, ballet and hip-hop classes. It is a great way for me, as a former dancer, to reconnect with my youth and love of dance. It is also a great stress reliever and fabulous way to exercise my body and mind. I highly recommend Centreville Dance Academy to anyone who just wants to dance because they love it! My son has been dancing here since he was 2 1/2 years old. We have nothing but nice things to say about the school. The teachers are friendly and really go out of their way to help. All of the staff know my son by name. They also are very willing to go the extra mile. They have helped my son get fitted for new shoes and provided a back up pair if we did not have them on a particular day. My son has a learning disability and his dance teacher even reached out to his teacher at school (with my permission) to find out new ways to support him in dance. I feel that the teachers genuinely care for the students and are willing to give feedback and support to them. Yes, the lessons are flat rate per month, but I've seen this with other dance schools as well. That means that, yes, you pay the same for 3 class months as you do for 4 class months, but it also means you pay the same for a 5 class month as you do for a 4 class month. My almost 16 year old daughter has been dancing at CDA since she was 3 1/2 and competitively for the past 6 years. It is truly her home away from home and I can't think of another place or people whose values I would want to instill in my child. The instructors are not only wonderful dancers and teachers, but mentors, coaches, role-models and friends to my daughter. They have taught her the value of hard work, responsibility, respect and compassion for others, and honesty and integrity as well as the importance of balancing work with with fun. And, yes, they've taught her to dance as well...all kinds: tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, musical theater, and hip hop. She has not only become a beautiful dancer under their tutelage, but they have also, more importantly, given her a love of dance that she will carry forward and serve her well throughout her life. Centreville Dance Academy (CDA) is more than just a studio to send your son or daughter to learn to dance. It is a studio to send them to if you want them to learn how to be a better person, make life long friends, learn to love dance and on top of all of that to work with some of the best teachers in the area that are dedicated to making sure your kids are having a good time while learning. My daughter made the competition team and each competition we go to the dancers from CDA are recognized as the most respectful dancers there and are respectful not only to the other dancers but to the coaches, judges and everyone involved. My daughter has been dancing at this studio since 2018 and it has truly become like a second home and family. The instructors are all extremely skilled and care deeply about each dancer, constantly providing guidance and feedback both to grow them as dancers and as people. The studio itself has lots of spacious rooms for classes, a small lounge for dancers, and a lobby with seating and TVs that live stream each classroom so you can watch your child during their class. The studio owner also operates an adjacent dancewear shop that is fully stocked with shoes, tights, leotards and any other dance essentials you can think of which is super convenient, especially for those last-minute "mom, I forgot my tights" situations! I couldn't possibly recommend CDA any more highly. read more

My daughter has been attending CDA for nearly one year now, and I am extremely pleased with this dance school. The teachers are diverse, talented, compassionate, and fun. I am especially impressed with the summer camp program, which we just completed. The range of activities kept the experience fresh and fun for my daughter. The children made arts and crafts using top quality supplies, and my daughter was very proud to show me her daily creations. The teachers put together a last-day program for the parents and it was amazing how well these dancers did after just 4 days,not to mention the look of enjoyment on every face- parents included! Centreville Dance is the place to go if you want to learn to dance in a supportive environment with considerate teachers who truly believe anyone who wants to dance should have the opportunity to do so. They offer classes for all ages, from child to adults, and for all ability levels. My daughter is excited to go to her classes every week and CDA has turned into a home away from home. Her dance friends have become some of her best friends. Not only is she learning many styles of dance, but she also has the opportunity to foster her love of dance in a positive space by teachers who are excited to pass on their dance knowledge. This is by far the best studio I've been at. I haven't danced here for long, yet I have already developed strong bonds with all the dancers and teachers. I'm also apart of CDT which is their amazing competition team. It has given me great one on one training from solos and the chance to listen to many critiques after each competition. The Dance Shoppe is conveniently right next door. The studio provides excellent training in various styles with the chance to learn from many teachers. Ms.Kathy always puts on wonderful Winter Premiere showcases and recitals. I would recommend Centreville Dance to anyone in a heartbeat. read more

CDA is a family friendly dance studio in the center of Centreville. They have classes for toddlers all the way up to adults. Classes are age appropriate at each level helping little ones learn skills through repetition and challenging the older students as they are capable. The costs are comparable to other studios in the NOVA area. Their policies are inclusive of all types of students with various special needs. June recitals are kept to a reasonable length. Parents especially appreciate that dances, choreography and costumes are kept age appropriate. read more

My daughters attended this studio for 4 years. We were very sad to recently move and have had a hard time finding a dance studio that compares. The thing I loved most about this studio is the feeling of camaraderie that exists among the students. I never witnessed any gossiping or unkindness. All of the kids on the teams were very supportive of one another. And the staff are amazing! If we moved back, I would sign my children up again in a heart beat! Great technique. I cannot express how happy my daughter and I are with CDA! I have a hard time getting her to actually leave the studio even after being there for 11 hours each week. My daughter has danced here since she was 5 years old. The school has been great for us, starting with our one introductory ballet class when we first started to now when my daughter takes six advanced classes each week. My granddaughter keeps complaining, (whenever I pick her up from dance), that her teacher, Ms. Laura, is only there half of the time to teach.
