I didn't realize that these were part of ballroom dancing until I arrived. I found this place via MeetUp, and they had offered to introduce me to their class. And, knowing me, I love trying new things, so I couldn't help but jump on the offer! To make things even more fun, I proposed this to a first date, and *spoiler alert* he is still part of my life, haha. So, what does that mean? This place has some magic brewing about. The class: It was about 1 hour long, and I felt completely at home. It was an introductory class where we learned the basics of ballroom dancing. I love how the "leads" have to ask the "followers" out for a dance prior to dancing with them. The whole experience was met with tons of smiles, laughter, and memories. This is a wonderful studio. I came here for a private LGBT group lesson. It's a gorgeous huge and beautiful studio. The teachers here are very dynamic and welcoming and fun. They taught small samples of a lot of different dances and they did a great job keeping a huge group of women engaged and keeping light-hearted and fun. They also did some beautiful demo dances. I have been dancing at this studio for 6 years. I have been dancing for over 20 years, so I have a basis for comparison. The instructors are all excellent with many having won dance championships. Everyone is friendly. The Argentine Tango class is especially good. The instructor Edwin gives very detailed lessons with appropriate music for practice, with both beginner and advanced levels. I've been dancing as a fun hobby and a great workout - on and off - for over 30 years. I've travelled and moved around a lot and I must say that Elegant Dancing studio is by far the best dancing studios I've ever been to. The owners (Chris and Una) and the staff (Jim in particular) are attentive, friendly, and care very much about their business and their customers. They make you feel like you're part of the dancing family and not just a paycheck. Prices are very reasonable and unlike franchised studios, Elegant Dancing, has seasoned, expert professionals with years of dancing experience as instructors. I've been taking regular private lessons with Lukas Klotzsche and with Javier Buentello who are fun-loving and amazing at what they do. They both listen well, teach with technique and style, and bring and abundance of energy and enthusiasm. I also regularly attend group classes taught by many of the other instructors. Basically, they're all amazing instructors at this studio so you can't really go wrong with anyone. Javier's, Chris', Edwin's and Malin's group classes have become weekly routines for me -- as the most fun way for me to get a daily workout in whist learning new steps for dancing. Lukas Klotzsche is easily one of the top instructors I've ever worked with. He's technically flawless and is methodical in his teaching and perfect for a type-A like me. Prior to joining this studio, I had only ever danced the American smooth & rhythm and basically learned the Standard style with Lukas. I have completely fallen in love with it and want to see how far I can take it. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and expect a lot from myself; as such, I gravitate towards teachers who take it as seriously as I do while keeping it fun and lighthearted. Lukas has a unique sense of humor, takes pride in this beautiful and expressive form of art, and in his appearance! His many years of competitive dancing shows not only in his professionalism and how he carries himself but also in his methodical approach to teaching. We wanted to have a choreographed first dance for our wedding to an upbeat R&B song. Our instructor Belinda was able to listen to the music and come up with a routine that fit our skills and comfort level but also flowed perfectly to the song. She also was able to teach me and my wife the steps and movements in a way that made sense to each of us. Alex Jacobs, ballroom instructor, is the consummate professional with widespread knowledge and skill in all varieties of dance, with the ability to teach all levels with great success. Alex is gracious, kind, and inspires all his students to become successful in their endeavors. He's always reaching to find the personalized instruction for that particular student-- not "once size fits all". Supportive! Alex is amazingly creative in choreography when students express the desire to participate in show case programs and in- house competition. He developed and supports a metal testing program where students are evaluated by an outside professional to assist students in defining goals in their programs. Oh my gosh, I can't say enough amazing things about Kit from Elegant Dancing! She was such a gem to work with, and brought two amateurs to pros in 7 lessons! My experience at Elegant Dancing has been amazing since I started January 2022. The first impression in entering the studio is from Jim who manages scheduling along with Ron (who I often enjoy taking classes with)- Jim takes time to explain all options, and has been known to help out with dental insurance, car repairs, and probably anything from real estate to vacation planning.... Edwin's skill made me feel I could dance Argentine Tango the first time I danced it with him, leading to many classes with Edwin and Lynda. I love his spontaneous laughter and passion. I have been in awe watching Edwin and Lynda dance together as they float across the floor and add grace and beauty to every performance! Michelle was one of the first instructors I took group classes with, and her humor made me feel comfortable as a new dancer, helping me grasp dances I had never tried. She is a delight to watch in every showcase with her playfulness and creativity! Malin's precise focus on every dance move enabled me for the first time to create beauty with arm movements and crafting a dramatic approach. I have watched her dance on video repeatedly to inspire myself and hone my style! Mariel is the instructor I have taken the most classes from, and she introduced me to almost every dance for the first time. Her ability to explain basics to beginners is excellent, and I have enjoyed getting to know her playful side at Javier/Mariel karaoke nights--her skill at baking spectacular cupcakes could be a side career for her. Belinda has brought phenomenal skill to the studio with her Latin dance, and she also has a beautiful singing voice! Javier, like each instructor, moves proficiently from one dance to another across a spectrum of styles. Javier has worked with me in a few private lessons on elements of frame and posture that have given me confidence to accurately follow the lead, and have helped me beautify style and technique. Along with Mariel, I have enjoyed getting to know Javier on playful dance/karaoke nights, and he has a side skill at being able to sing beautifully! Alex introduced me to the magical world of West Coast Swing. His methodology for teaching is concrete and logical, and he builds a foundation with clarity and repetition. He is brilliant at group classes and I anticipate expanding skill in West Coast Swing. The addition of Maria in West Coast Swing classes has clarified each aspect of the follower steps with her clear teaching, and I have loved watching the two of them introduce fun dances to the studio like the Peabody. Perhaps no one has impacted my dancing more than Lukas Klotzsche. I started private lessons with Lukas a little over a year ago, before taking any group classes. I came in with almost no experience in dancing, and I have no natural sense of rhythm or timing. Lukas patiently worked with me on every basic point, including frame, posture, steps, hand connections, and how to precisely connect with the lead to create a beautiful, unified movement. He helped me craft a way forward, even though I have changed direction at times as I have discovered new dances about which I am passionate, or explored different musical styles. He began working with me on Tango from the start, and gave me the incredible gift of being not only my patient instructor, but my dance partner in my first ever performance at the end of January, an American Tango. This is something I would not have imagined just 18 months ago! His blend of accuracy and clarity, blended with kindness, laughter, and passion for dance, have inspired me and created a profound adventure that is hard to capture in words! I was at Taste of a Fairfax, a free festival in the area. My bf and I entered a raffle for free classes and a week later, we were notified that we won!!! We took the Strictly Beginners class, where we learned 2 new dances per week. It was a fun class! The only downside is... It is fast paced since each lesson per dance is only about 30 mins. I am not sure how someone can truly learn in this format. And learned all their classes are in this format. The good thing is it introduced us to all the available dances the studio offers. The instructors are patient, explains steps well, and is a pleasure to work with. Another downside to the class, sometimes there arent enough leads, so women end up being the leads. This may impact their experience, where some may not feel like it is worth their money and they may feel like they are not learning the right steps. But other than that, I would recommend this studio if you already have some experience in dancing. The staff is approachable. They remember names. They make the class a good environment. read more

Jim was very friendly and funny when I called, and worked hard to arrange my lessons around my work schedule. I have been Elegant Dancing studio for two weeks now and just signed up for group lessons and had one private lesson with Zach. All I can say is: "Love it !" Elegant Dancing is a very pleasant place to take lessons and learn ballroom dance. The studio really tries to bring people together in an environment where learning dance is fun. Got a 30 minute dance lesson with Zach and it can only be described as "awesome." All the staff members seemed so genuine and nice, it was a family like atmosphere where you feel comfortable and feel welcomed instantly as soon as you walk into their studio. We found this place last Fall when we needed to get out of the house and do something fun. My boyfriend and I always wanted to learn to dance but didn't know how or where to go. I've passed this studio so many times and finally took the plunge to take lessons and so glad we did. The experience has exceeded all of my expectations. We've taken private lessons with Michele and group classes with Michele, Lukas and Chris. It's been so much fun and they are super patient with newcomers. Jim who helps us with the scheduling and welcomes us at the front door on most days is always so friendly. This place is taking all the precautions with mandatory masks and temperature checks. They're also limiting class size so it's very safe. I look forward to all of our lessons and classes and leave the studio with a smile each time. We've been going 1-2 times per week and we've hooked. We had the absolute best experience at Elegant Dancing! We went to them for dance lessons for the first dance at our wedding and they did such a FANTASTIC job! Jim (the manager) is SO nice and SO accommodating! And our dance instructor, Michele, was phenomenal. She choreographed such a unique dance for us. We danced to 3 songs with 3 different dance styles. I am not a good dancer, but she was able to explain and break the dance moves down in such a logical way. She is such a great instructor and also gave us the confidence to do the dance! During one of the sessions that she could not make, we had Alex as our instructor and he was also incredible. Similar to Michele he was able to explain things in such a coherent way. We are SO happy that we chose Elegant Dancing to have dance lessons at. Elegant Dancing is a great studio that tailors its instruction around the student's goals, capabilities, and busy work schedule. Our instructor, Una, is very patient, knowledgable, and fun. Learning new skills is always challenging, especially as you get older, but Una provides a very relaxed atmosphere and is really amazing at teaching couples. We always feel as if we learn something new and improve at every lesson. When we began lessons with Una, our goal was simply to learn a few social dance steps for a cruise.
