TLDR - Not walk, RUN to the store or the website to buy their awards winning chocolate bars. Off the chart unique flavors that I bet you can't find anywhere else.
I heard of Centre & Main Chocolate from CBC's "Still Standing" TV show. Still Standing explores small towns in Canada where they have once been prosperous but now are on the rope yet still standing. The shows presented The Town of Warkworth in March 2022. Centre & Main Chocolate is one of the businesses that was showcased. Angela Roest is the owner and chocolatier. She is the heart, soul, dreamer and fearless leader. Roest curates artisan chocolate bars using mostly local ingredients from the nearby areas. The chocolate that won a silver medal from an international competition is The Saffron, and it uses saffron grown in a local farm, for example.
I visited in person in June 2022. I noted that the TV show didn't do justice how tastefully and beautifully decorated the store was. The entrance hall was of decent size. There were 2 or 3 (cannot recall correctly) small displays of products. Then entered the main room that had some free standing simple shelves made of dark wood. Yet the focal point that attracted immediate attention was a wall shelf full of chocolate bars. The chocolate bars are of off the chart unique flavors, such as lavender, tea and toast, toffee and potato chips, Kimchi, tumeric, and of course saffron. We were overwhelmed by the selection, to tell you the truth. We picked 4 bars based on the names, and to have a variety of dark, milk and white chocolate bars. I would say the Hazelton Hojicha, a caramelized white chocolate, tastes stunning. I swore I could "chew" the flavor. The Saffron tasted different from any white chocolate bars I have ever had. It brew my preconceptions of white chocolate. Kimchi bar was a rich and oh so smooth dark chocolate bar with an extremely mild hint of Kimchi chili (not the cabbage). The bar didn't taste spicy to me. I finally understand why some people think dark chocolate is supreme. I haven't eaten the Tea and Toast yet, but I will and then I can elect if I like milk chocolate, which Tea and Toast is, or dark chocolate more.
To top of the flavor variety, the chocolatier curates a line called Travel the World with Chocolate. These chocolate bars use the cacao from different countries and the bars are named after the origin country. Roest said, just like coffee beans, the cacaos from different countries taste different. I didn't buy from these simply because I already bought 4 bars. But if you are a chocolate connoisseur, this is your chance to travel the world with chocolate.
The shopping experience was awesome. Roest showed us the chocolate and answered our questions. She is an epic chocolatier and a classy and effective salesperson.
Last but not least, if you couldn't make to the store in person, you could order from their website. At time of writing this review, the shipping fee is an affordable $14, which is pretty reasonable considering artisan chocolate requires careful packaging to withstand the weather heat. read more
