Every staff member I encountered was kind, friendly, patient, and helpful. One thoughtful woman went out of her way to bring a bowl of water for my dog (who was not the animal needing care but could not be left at home alone). The doctor who saw my injured cat was generous with his time, answered my questions thoroughly, and had a good sense of humor. Staff members did their best to make sure I did not miss my return ferry and even gave helpful advice on where to find a decent latte at the crack of dawn. When it came time to pay I was expecting a bill in the mid four digits- after all, this is ER care at 3am on a weekend- but the total was shockingly low! I even asked if they had forgotten to add in his bag of meds! The fact that affordable, quality emergency care like this exists is deeply heartening. We've had three Berners and know they have a short life span. The team of people at the Seattle VEG clinic were terrific. They performed many clinical tests including ultrasound and x-ray imaging. Unfortunately, the results confirmed my concerns. She had advanced cancer in multiple organs. I took her home from VEG and made arrangements to have her put down the next day at another clinic recommended by the VEG team. While the outcome was sad, the people at VEG were very competent and provided a clear plan of action for me.

I want to preface this by stating that our visit was EXPENSIVE--and I did expect a big bill for an…read moreER visit for my dog... but I just want to be up front about the fact that it was expensive. But the care was amazing. My dog and I took a trip to VEG earlier this week after she started vomiting in the early hours of the morning, and then by the mid-afternoon was vomiting blood clots. We called our normal vet, and they couldn't get us in--so they advised I take her down to VEG. There was some construction doing on during our visit, but they managed it really well. There were some areas that were a little cramped and awkward, but they handled it like champs, and it was still clean and organized. From the moment we walked in, the staff were calm and kind (in a moment where I needed some calm and kindness). I was super scared and struggling to speak coherently, but they calmly asked all the questions and reassured me I was doing the right thing. My dog can be SPICY with strangers, and especially men. I let them know this when we walked in, and I had brought our muzzle (which they thanked me for). There was only one male staff member present while we were there, but they swapped him for a female staff member, and he kept his distance. With the exception of X-rays, they did the WHOLE appointment with my dog sitting by my side, her head in my lap. (And even during X-rays, I could've watched through the window... but I just really needed to pee so I didn't... and the restroom was clean ) They did bloodwork, an ultrasound, and some other evaluation/tests all with her head in my lap, and me holding her still before she was sedated. They were kind, calm, and explained everything as we went. When I expressed concern over her breathing pattern after sedation, they hooked her up to a heart monitor. The whole appointment happened on a couch in a common area, and it felt safe and comfortable the whole time. They walked me through test results, the meds we went home with, and next steps and things to watch for. All-in-all, we were there for about 4 hours--and they managed me and my fear/anxiety just as well as they managed the situation with my dog. They even offered something to drink and a snack. If my dog has another emergency, I won't hesitate to go back.

In long Last night, we had a nasty brain fade. We thought pork bones were just as safe as beef bones for dogs. Not true! Especially if they're cooked, which this one was. She was at it for an hour, and when I went to pick it up, more than half of it was gone. Fortunately, it looked like it had disintegrated into crumbs, rather than splintering into shards. I called in and the doctor spent 15 minutes on the phone with us, talking about likely outcomes and the risks (and costs) associated with treatment. We could have had her x-rayed, but that can be imperfect with a full stomach. We could induce vomiting, but that could hurt her throat just as much as waiting to see what happens at the other end. We asked what she would do with her own dog, and out of the goodness of her heart, she talked to all the other doctors and got a consensus. She recommended bulk-feeding the pooch. This means giving her bread, which will expand in her stomach and protect the tissue in her digestive tract from any jagged edges of bone bits. There's a good chance she'll be able to digest it without issue, which many dogs do. She said this kind of thing is a bit of a gray area, because there's no certainty with any decision. I'm happy to say that the dog is still bright-eyed, energetic, and terrorizing her stuffed toys today, and digestively she seems 100% normal. My wife hardly slept last night for fear of losing her sweet little pal, but so far she seems very much her lively little furry self. Hugs thanks to VEG for calming us down, talking us through it, and not pushing us toward costly care.

They were very quick to help us, all of the vets and techs were warm and understanding, along with walking us through each step. The bill ended up being a lot cheaper than what we expected, and they gave us info about what we could get at a pet store for a lower price for follow up care. That was so appreciated! We've recommended them to all the pet parents we know in the area. Hopefully we won't need to visit them again, but if we do, we know our pet will be in great hands.

I promised him I wouldn't make him go to a vet again, but I couldn't find anyone until the next day, and I couldn't let him suffer anymore. I hate crying, esp in front of people but I didn't care and the staff was wonderful. Within 15 minutes of our arrival, it was over. I couldn't be more grateful to the staff. They were wonderful.

When Ollie's time to go came, Dr. Bowal, Techs Eva and Matt, and Manager Sarah were astonishingly kind to Ollie and to us. They are all exceptional. My family and I are grateful to them for their skill and kindness. I should mention that this level of veterinary care is expensive and that it was largely covered by our pet insurance with TruePanion, which I highly recommend to all pet owners.
