This place is probably great if you don't have a job and have the time to wait around for them to actually be there. They're only open from 9AM to 5PM but aren't actually there during store hours so I guess you've got to just...catch them? I don't have that kind of time personally. I took an hour off of work to drop off some shoes for minor repairs but when I showed up, around 9:15 on a Wednesday but they weren't open. I waited around for about half an hour but no one came in. Central Shoe has been in Worcester for decades and the service and finished product are always exceptional. The business has been written up in the Telegram numerous times. As to the review regarding the proprietor not being there on September 25th, which is the date of the review, he was out of state for a family matter. I was told the store would not be open that week when I dropped shoes off the week before. The business is owned and operated by one person with some part time help occasionally. I brought in a pair of cowboy boots that needed to be fixed.. They did a fabulous job. I would go nowhere else.

Cash-only, Pay up front. They do great work with tremendous volume. My old cobbler died and I wasn't sure I'd find another since this seems like an industry from the past. It feels so much better to get older, quality shoe wear fixed nowadays, rather than throwing them out when they just need some TLC. Hunting for new shoes in your size especially with supply-chain issues doesn't seem like a fruitful endeavor. So far, I've had 2 pairs of Keen boots (winter and hiking) completely rehabbed and just dropped off a pair of wellies. I'm literally looking through my stuff I haven't already thrown out to bring in and fix. This is a great place. read more

These folks live up to their great reputation with shoes, and are a pleasure to talk to as well. I had a pair of Frye boots with leather soles that I've always loved, but the leather was slippery and I needed further grip to walk in the fall/winter weather conditions. They shined and waterproofed them, then added new Vibram soles and I will have them for years to come! Amazing, quick and offers reasonable prices. I was ready to give up on a pair of Tory Burch flats that I abused and destroyed. To my surprise, this place offered me a great price to have the leather of my flats conditioned, soles glued up, and scuff marks cleaned up.. all for $10! If I had one word to describe Central Shoe, it would be "HONEST". If your shoe isnt worth repairing they will tell you you're better off buying a new pair and any work they do, they always do at a fair price. I have a pair of black designer pumps with intricate white embroidery and they not only replaced both the heels but somehow managed to polish them without leaving a mark on the stiching. They turned an old pair of leather soled western boots into an awesome pair of motorcycle boots with thick lug soles and a toe patch for me. The list goes on, suffice it to say, if its made of leather and is worn, torn, ripped or broken they can fix it and at a reasonable price. read more

Simply horrible. I was yelled at and told to leave by owner Rob Zaza when I came in asking for a refund on the work he did on my leather jacket. I orignally had brought it in for him to evaluate, he said it was no problem to buff and shine, and he would have it Monday -- by that Wednesday, I checked in, and he had forgotten about it entirely. But it gets worse: When I did get it back, it ended up staining the new clothes I purchased for my holiday pictures. (I wore the jacket to the photo studio due to the cold; I did not expect it to ruin my outfit.) When I came in to ask for a refund, he, at first, would not speak with me, then aggressively told me he would not give me any refund. He became loud and angry, saying he would not do it because it took him too long to work on in the first place (likely rushed that Wednesday). Avoid this shop. read more

I took my leather heel boots in today and the owner said they were closing but he could fix the bottom of my heels in 10min. I was super excited because I planned on wearing them that night. He was very nice and he placed a rubber (not plastic) part on the bottom of my heels. Now I can walk and not worry about it cracking again. read more

Put new soles on a pair of my dress shoes. Picked them up and they had been shined as well. Great job all around and very affordable!

On a Monday, I brought a pair of black leather pumps and a pair of camel leather knee high boots to have the rubber on the heels replaced. I lost the rubber on the boots midday and couldn't change out of them right away so I did a number on them. I wasn't sure anyone would be able to match the existing color but didn't mention it. The man behind the counter offered to have them ready by Wednesday, but I knew I wouldn't be able to pick them up until Saturday so that's the day I requested. Saturday morning I went in and the boots weren't quite finished. The rubber was a brown color and they didn't try to repair the leather on either pair. I'm satisfied with the price and the results but I might try somewhere else next time. read more

I took my shoes to another repair shop in Worcester and was utterly unimpressed. All I wanted was to remove a layer of the brown polish in order to get the original color. Had to take my shoes to Central since the original guy did such a haphazard and unprofessional job. The guys at this place are amazing! Courteous and very professional. A win for Worcester! Brought in some boots for zipper repair, which the folks at Zipper Hospital near Clark said would cost $40-50 to fix somewhere else (and that they couldn't do it). Here I was in and out in 10 minutes, with a new zipper stopper ($2) and instructions on how to sew part of the zipper back on (I could've left it, but feel more empowered getting to do it myself- the true hallmark of great repairpeople is that they help you help yourself). Instead the guy was very arrogant.. said 'you were supposed to call'.. like it's my fault that he did not do his job within the deadline that he proposed. I recently had a pair of shoes resoled by Central Shoe. I was very happy with the service I received. When I went in, they recommended doing a 3/4 sole, because some of the leather was still good and it would save me 5 bucks. They also recommended a Neolite sole over leather, saying that the Neolite would last about three times longer. I was impressed that they would recommend this, even though it meant that it would be much longer before they could expect me to come back in for my next resole. When I went to pick up my shoes, I was informed that they had had to do a full resole because the leather wasn't in as good of shape as they originally thought. They insisted that they wouldn't charge me the extra 5 dollars, even though I would have been more than happy to pay it. This kind of honesty and customer service is rare today. I will definitely be taking all my future shoe repairs to Central Shoe, and I've been telling anyone who'll listen what great work they do there. read more
