Long wait time. Cocaine prices are way too high. Horrible cell phone reception. Too many dudes.

North Carolina General Assembly - Inside the Legislature 2024

North Carolina General Assembly

I really enjoyed my visit to the North Carolina General Assembly, AKA: The North Carolina…read moreLegislature. Folks here are so nice, the building has a roof-top walking and sitting area and it's open to the public M to F. Wish I had to more time to explore and chat with some of the legislators. Highly recommend a visit if in the area--it's a public building open to everyone--you have to go through security screening at the door to get in. It's just a couple of blocks from the State Capital and the History Museum. Also great to just walk around all the historic well marked streets in downtown Raleigh. We parked in the covered garage adjacent to the Supreme Court but there is parking all over it seemed. Famous line from the visit: When the woman at reception learned we were visiting from California she said: "You folks there have a different way of doing things..."

Generally, the food is K&W quality with the entrees being hit or miss but the salad generally being pretty good. The banana pudding is very good. The service used to be better when they would bus your table for you, but now you have to bus your table. If you are looking for a cheap cafeteria lunch this is the place to go, if you are looking for anything else you will be very disappointed. The service tends to be very hit or miss depending on the mood of the staff.

Set on the NC…read moreState University campus, this is a hidden gem for book lovers and those who love Swedish design. It is massive and as soon as I walked in I felt right at home. I stumbled on this while looking for things to do in the area while attending a book signing. Being a book lover and author, this was an obvious choice. My friend and I explored the first two floors (we were pressed for time) and were in awe. I wish Charleston had something like this because I would be here every single day working on my next manuscript. There were several rooms, desks, and seating areas for readers and students alike to choose from. The large windows allow for plenty of natural light that offsets the bright interior lights. They have a wide collection of titles and studies! Highly recommend that you check it out. Just remember to be quiet and respectful as students may be present working on their projects.

On the other hand, my son complained about the slow public wi-fi, which is a pretty big negative when you're studying using your laptop. He said it took 10 minutes just to get connected to the wi-fi. But for that, this seems like a nice spot to study if you've got a personal hotspot (or access otherwise to faster Internet). Hopefully, there is faster wi-fi for NC State students.
