Who doesn't love Cameron Village? I could spend hours in here! Be sure to pop into The Fresh Market after your library visit.

I love libraries - a library is the ultimate place of learning, with endless books to discover and love - and programs to drum up community engagement, celebrate diversity and distribute and celebrate ideas. I've now lived in and loved the libraries of two different countries and five different states (including recently, the beautiful Boston and Cambridge libraries). I didn't think it could get better than what I knew and loved, but the Cameron Village Regional Library really takes the cake. Their programming for young families rocks my socks, with fantastic preschool and toddler story times that make my threenager excited for books - we are working on her early literacy skills and feel such gratitude for the wonderful librarians who are in the trenches with me. Also love the crafting activities available for adults - I only learned of this 3 months ago and have already made button flowers for my plants and a beautiful new tote bag for my books -- teaching of the craft and all supplies given by the library (thank you, Tara and Andrew, for coming up with the fun programming!). And finally, Sue is one of the fantastic librarians who puts together book bags based on your pre-selected criteria and since she knows that I dig books with intrigue, fantasy, and strong female characters, she's introduced me to some wonderful reads without the need to drag my toddler around as I book-hunt. Though I moved so that I now have 2 closer libraries, this place is so near and dear to my heart that I still make it out here on a weekly basis...!

View from second level. Cool armored knight made out of street signs in corner of stair landing.

I love a nice library, and Cameron Village Regional Library is a pretty nice library. The front face of it is all glass, which gives the interior plenty of light on both floors. The first floor holds the children section, a small cafe, and a information/return desk area. The second floor contained the adult non fiction, fiction, computer terminals (not a whole bunch in comparison to other libraries I've been to), magazine/periodicals, and a additional help desk. Between the tables and single chairs located throughout, seating seemed adequate. What I liked best about this library was its location in bustling Cameron Village. It is right next to a Fresh Market, so I was able to get some nuts to munch on as I read, and there there are all sorts of other eateries nearby should one need to grab something in between their studying, reading, and research. I thought its location gives this library a lively, vibrant atmosphere. Despite this and the fact that it was rather busy, I did not find it noisy. Perhaps everyone was well behaved during my visit, but I was lost in what I was reading several times, undisturbed.....just what you want while in a library...other times I just watched people coming and going from my second floor perch near the front glass facade. I will come back when I have some free time and just relax and once again take it all in.

I stumbled on this while looking for things to do in the area while attending a book signing. Being a book lover and author, this was an obvious choice. My friend and I explored the first two floors (we were pressed for time) and were in awe. I wish Charleston had something like this because I would be here every single day working on my next manuscript. There were several rooms, desks, and seating areas for readers and students alike to choose from. The large windows allow for plenty of natural light that offsets the bright interior lights. They have a wide collection of titles and studies! Highly recommend that you check it out. Just remember to be quiet and respectful as students may be present working on their projects.

On the other hand, my son complained about the slow public wi-fi, which is a pretty big negative when you're studying using your laptop. He said it took 10 minutes just to get connected to the wi-fi. But for that, this seems like a nice spot to study if you've got a personal hotspot (or access otherwise to faster Internet). Hopefully, there is faster wi-fi for NC State students.

I also love the self checkout stations inside the library. They are pretty magical, especially if you are checking out a ton of books. The children's section is great! It's set up in a way that is very clear and easy to follow depending on what age group you are looking for. I loved the candy land inspired interactive game they had setup in December. My son had so much fun checking it out. I especially loved that it was open if the library was open, you didn't have to go in at a specific time. I also love their Lucky Day section at the front of the library. You might get lucky and score a book that would otherwise have a super long waitlist. Such a neat concept! In general Wake County's online library system is awesome. It's so easy to reserve books and e-books as well. At North to pick up your books just head straight in towards the back by the main checkout desk. You can easily find what you need in alphabetical order there. You can definitely taste all the elements of the s'mores in it. Give yourself an excuse to go to the library now and "study." The ice cream is also cheap compared to the other ice cream shops. Along with other Wake County libraries, Southeast Regional Library has been doing Books-on-the-Go for the majority of 2020. This has been a life savior for bookies like me to get hands on the books - You request book(s) on their online account and you will receive an email when the book is ready to be picked up. This service has been decreased as some of the libraries, including Southeast Regional Library, has partially opened up. However, you can still use the service if you wish to. I currently do not use the Books-on-the-Go service, but I believe this is an amazing service for anyone who doesn't feel comfortable to visit the inside. I usually request books online and when it's ready (you get an email notification). Then I visit the library for an easy pick-up. Upon entering the library, a security guard or a librarian will check your temperature to ensure you are healthy before letting you enter the library. You can browse around the library for random book finds (how much I missed this!) or you can simply go to the main desk for checking out whatever you requested prior to the visit. Thank you everyone who made it possible to re-open the library during the pandemic. I missed you guys dearly!
