I was greeted when I arrived, then I checked in to the class. The instructor was a beekeeper from University of Florida. He introduced us to various types of honey, including many from different countries and types of flowers. We also tried were a few local honeys from Florida. It took about 1.5 hours to sample over 20 different types of honeys. A bit of description was provided for each honey, but questions were answered. I really enjoyed the Manuka honey, Lavender honey, and the various honeys from Florida. After the class, there were certain items for sale, but I decided to head to the gardens. While I did enjoy the displays and the fountains near the home, I couldn't enjoy much and left early due to the thunderstorm nearby. Still, I did enjoy about 15 to 20 minutes of walking through it. Parking was free and ample. Being a foodie, I really enjoyed the honey tasting experience. The instructor was great and informative, and I enjoyed most of the honeys I tried. The garden admission addition was a plus, but I wish I was able to stay a bit longer. The trail takes you beneath the historic masonry street bridge, with winding creeks, charming wooden bridges, and giant elephant ear plants along the way. It was such a fun place to explore on a Saturday evening. I'll definitely be back in March to see the azaleas in bloom. Good to know: there's convenient parking across the street at the adjacent Mayor Carl T. Langford Park, which also has additional amenities.

I did not bring my dogs because it was super hot and I had a few stops in this area. I arrived near the end of the event to see if this was something I could share with my dogs. I saw lots of happy owners and pups (some wet.). They had great raffles and fun tents to experience with your pet. Full disclosure I have been a member of Mennello in the past and attended their folk music events. I really like that they have events that empower patrons to participate in art, music and the community. They have another Pet event in Fall 2025.

I have walked the mile path surrounding Lake Eola many times and I always stop for a moment at this…read morepeaceful garden with its distinctive red bridge. The Japanese Rock Garden along Lake Eola contains a 12.5 ton and 19,5 foot long piece of black marble donated by Su-Nan Chong, Mayor of Tainan, Taiwan. The rock was given in 1983 as a gift of friendship between the sister cities of Tainan and Orlando. The marble is said to have been discovered in the mountains in Hua-Lien at an altitude of 1,600 meters and was sculpted by wind over 10,000 years. The Mayor requested the following to be inscribed on the stone. "Loyal To Country Filial To Parents." When the rock was delivered Orlando it was requested to be placed "in your great Walt Disney World". Disney World however is not in Orlando and Disney declined the gift leaving Orlando to figure out what to do with it. While waiting for permanent placement it was called the Mayor's pet rock. When Lake Eola Park was renovated in 1988, the Japanese Rock Garden was created and the rock finally had a home. Today you can see the famous rock and take pictures on the pretty bridge. The story of the marble has become a quirky part of Lake Eola history.
