Best $8 I've spent in I don't know how long! I'm a museum nerd and I had been meaning to visit this one for some time. Parking, on a busy Saturday, can be tricky but drive around a bit and you'll spot something. Right now, I highly recommend visiting the Memphis exhibit. I won't explain, but I will leave it to the lovely Maggie to guide you on your way. I absolutely loved my first visit to MM and would happily return. Save your receipt and visit the gift shop across the street for a 10% discount. Once you exit, you'll likely enjoy a walk around the very charming Mount Dora shopping and dining district. A wonderful first visit - I look forward to my next one.

Modernism museum with a nice collection of Furniture that made an impact on the early 80s. David Bowie was a higher fan. Make sure to watch the film and learn the history of this movement. Prices are very reasonable and Affordable about 8 a person. You can see everything in about 30 to 40 minutes. if in Mt Dora you check out this one of a kind musume

8/11/23 - Who knew an historic little town like Mt Dora would have this Gem? It's hours like other places in town are reduced during the summer, so but we made it a point to stop before heading home on Friday when it opened. So very glad we did. At the time of our visit it had an outstanding Post Modernism exhibit, with a number of pieces that had been owned by David Bowie. The admission is modest and we were given a warm greeting and a quick overview by the receptionist. She encouraged us to view the video in the back of the museum. I asked if photography and sharing of photos was permitted and was told yes, there were no restrictions. We found it helpful to view some of the exhibit pieces before walking directly back to the video, then more slowly revisiting the items we'd seen. Then, taking in the remainder of the exhibit. I'd have liked to return to the video once more but we had a schedule we needed to keep. Although the post modernism style isn't my personal favorite, this is quite a fascinating exhibit with a wide variety of pieces that are outstanding examples of the design. I've added just a few of the photos.

Taking a day trip to Mt Dora? This cute modern museum is easily missed with everything else Mt Dora has to offer, I honestly didn't even know they had a museum lol I am a fan of modern art and decided to check it out after noticing a groupon deal. Several pieces of art are new and authentic, recommend watching their short demo video to get more of an insight of where their art comes from and its origin. If you are into decorating your home, interior design, modern, or contemporary art youll appreciate this museum. If you are just coming for cute IG pics, you can get some cool shots but can't touch any of the pieces lol Overall I enjoyed this museum, it doesn't take much time, and once you've seen it doesn't require many frequent visits (unless you want to). I would recommend checking it out once if you can, its a fun daytime/rainy day activity.

Who knew that Mount Dora had a great modern art museum downtown? We stumbled upon this place yesterday and are very glad we did! The museum is currently featuring an exhibit called Memphis showcasing some of this furniture design movement's signature pieces. David Bowie was a big collector of this work so pieces marked with a star are from David's personal collection. The curators mixed in tastefully displayed photos of David Bowie throughout the collection. Start with the short video in the back that provides the requisite background on Memphis and then walk around and enjoy the creative and vibrant furniture pieces on display. A unique and fun find in downtown Mount Dora.

Went and checked out this very unique Museum during the David Bowie collection exhibit. Friendly staff and a great intro video made the trip worthwhile. Modernism design of the 1980's was all about thinking forward. Very unique. I haven't seen anything like this anywhere. Check out the photos for more info.

Small Town museum with TONS to see for a great price. Also discounted entrance for students and senior citizens. The owners are great hosts. Basically had a private tour and detailed explanation of the exhibition at no additional charge.

The woman at the entrance was kind and helpful, though she spoke so softly my ADHD brain had to lean in like a detective--but her directions were spot on. Inside the main building, the art from Cuba was the star for me--bold, vibrant, full of life. Some of my absolute favorites were in the Cuban art section--each piece felt like it was humming with its own frequency. The geometric painting (the one drenched in deep reds, burnt oranges, and that sharp black hourglass shape) hit me first. It's bold, mathematical, yet somehow spiritual--like a coded message meant for anyone perceptive enough to catch it. Very "guardian-spirit-meets-mid-century-modern." I stood there longer than I expected. The giant ancient sloth? Unreal. I wish they'd place a modern-day sloth beside it, just so my brain could process the scale without glitching. The bug/kids section was unexpectedly adorable. The kids were living their best lives, and honestly, I was right there with them--zero shame. I did drive over to the second building for the "It's a Ship Show" exhibit, and okay... I see what they did with the title. At first glance I read it as "It's a Sht* Show," and for a split second I thought MOAS got sassy. The artwork leaned heavily into still life, and to me it felt more like pieces you'd find in an upscale lounge, a refined boutique hotel, or a polished restaurant--visually pleasing but not as emotionally stirring as the main gallery. Just my personal taste. I could've spent more time wandering around, but I was on a first date with someone who kept making me laugh. I felt like the loud kid in class trying to stay quiet in a museum. Overall, great value, memorable art, and a surprisingly fun atmosphere. I'd definitely go again--preferably when I'm not giggling through every exhibit.

5 Enormous Stars! I can't believe that this business did not have a Yelp listing already set up…read more This is, by far, one of the best walking food and wine tours I have ever taken, and I've taken over twenty. Our group had 12 people in it; she said the most she'll do is groups of 16. Cost was approximately $100 per person. Communication was excellent regarding meeting time, place, etc. The business is owned and operated by Jimberly, (yes, Jimberly) who used to be a chef, and owned her own small restaurant... 'til Covid came along. She prides herself on the fact that none of the places we stop at have pre-made, bar/generic food. Let her know ahead of time if you have any dietary restrictions, and she'll do her best to make special arrangements for you. She has been a Mount Dora native for many years, and had so many great local stories, gave a bunch of great recommendations, and knew people and dogs almost everywhere we went. Each food tour Jimberly does varies, depending on restaurant availability, but this is the one we took: Stop 1: Olive Branch - half glass of red, half glass of white, house salad, penne alla vodka. Stop 2: Lakeside Inn Gift Shop - shot of peach wine, shot of pomegranate wine, shot of chocolate liquor. We got a discount if we bought anything. Stop 3: Las Palmas Cuban Restaurant - scoop of mofongo, piece of skirt steak, piece of cuban, tostone with ropa vieja, piece of flan, piece of tres leches cake, small mojito! This place was outstanding! Stop 4: White Orchid Market Gift Shop - chip with dip, ramekin of pasta, small piece of fudge. Discount, so I bought a candle. Stop 5: Magical Meat Boutique - This is a British Pub, so we had fish and chips, and a cocktail. So good! So full! Absolutely a great experience, and a "must" do if you visit Mount Dora.
