Verdant greenery pops with an artist's palette of summertime colors at the Central Park Rose Garden. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality, taste and beauty of this formal garden.
Part of the Schenectady Parks department, this garden is maintained by staff and volunteers and free to the public.
A three-tiered fountain reminiscent of the ones in Italy provide the garden's center focal point. The rose bushes are planted in concentric circles emanating away from the fountain. Grassy paths allow you to inspect and smell each flower. A small man-made creek, arched bridge, and pond provide a water garden.
There's a small hill that provides a back drop with a modern metal sculpture and stairs leading you to the rest of Central Park.
According to the sign, this park won third place in a 2010 national competition of rose gardens. Once you are there, you will see for yourself why such a charming garden won attention from the judges. read more
