Looked for a nail salon last minute after a botched attempt to paint my own nails for a wedding I would be attending the next day. I found this place via yelp, was able to make an appointment with Angela for the next morning. The owner & nail tech, Angela was so friendly and gave me a great manicure. I wanted something with lace detailing, and she showed me a few options and I ended up choosing a stamp. She took her time, and I ended up loving the results. The pricing was great too, same as the Asian nail places, but better quality in my opinion. $19 for manicure, extra 5 for nail art. Aside from a nice looking manicure, I wanted to find a place that actually cleaned their equipment so I wouldn't be afraid of getting a nail fungus. The owner explained that she purchased a machine to sterilize the equipment, going above the basic disinfecting laws in place. The shop itself is small, only 2 hair stylists, and 1 nail tech, but nothing is lacking. I enjoyed the coziness of it. I expected the place to be decorated Indian because of the name "TAJ", but it wasn't! The owner explained that it was her & her 2 daughters initials. I don't get my nails done too often, but when I do, this is where I will go! If you take a trip here, mention Michelle sent you, and if I get 3 referrals I can get a free manicure :-) I know you'll enjoy this place as much as I Did! Update: came again for a 4th of july pedicure and I loved it!

This place is fabulous!…read more A bunch of hairdressers who were tired of the crap they took at their regular salons got together and created one they way they wanted it - and they did a helluva job! The salon itself is really beautiful. Big open space, decorated with just enough panache to be interesting, not so much you are rolling your eyes - Goldilocks perfect. The stations are open and make the most of the space - which is quite large. Excellent natural light from the windows covering half of the wall space, so it feels even more open and welcoming. They keep it really clean, which is really nice for a salon. The bathrooms are spotless, and the rest of the place looks first client-fresh all day. My hairdresser, Laurie - who I recommend wholeheartedly - is so happy there. She's been at a number of salons in the city and she feels completely at home here. So - a moment just for Laurie - she is amazing. Seriously knows her stuff, but will do whatever you want. You know how some hairdressers listen to what you want with your very own hair an then do something totally different? I hate that SO MUCH! Laurie is so not like that - she talks to you before she does anything, makes sure she knows what you want and discusses the entire process with you before she starts. On top of that, if you aren't really certain what you want, she will make all kinds of awesome suggestions and it is in your best interests to listen to her. She really does know her stuff. Plus - she is just really nice and fun to talk to - pretty important in a hair dresser! Regarding the review written by Sara P: Kayla was all about Groupon and Living Social, and that seemed to be going well, but she had a family emergency and actually moved back home to another state to help her family. Living Social is supposed to be handling refunds, but the other hairdressers at Shear Brilliance would be happy to provide you with the service you requested. I understand you were frustrated, but leaving a 1-star review for an entire business, composed of multiple independent contractors, based on your limited interactions with one person, especially now that you know the extreme circumstances - well, it's just not fair. Anyway - I truly love Shear Brilliance and support them wholeheartedly. They are a wonderful group of people, doing a job they love in a place they created together, and it's just plain fun to go there. Please give it a try - Laurie is the best, but all of them are worth your time and money.

Owner of Salon Black,…read more I went to your salon for a walk-in appointment today. I was with Jacqueline. She started out nice enough. I explained what I wanted the best I could and expected her to use her expertise to give me a good haircut. She ignored pretty much everything I asked and then seemed to want to make me feel guilty or bad about getting multiple haircuts when she hadn't finished the first one. Her behavior became more and more abusive. It's abusive to blatantly ignore what people say they want while pretending to do a good job while doing completely substandard work. I tried to just focus on what I needed. It seemed like she wanted to trigger me to walk out. When I asked her to just make it cohesive and make the layers make sense, she wanted to make me responsible by having me direct her what to cut. She said she was trying to combine my cuts. I didn't ask her to do that. I just told her pretty straightforwardly what I wanted and then she was basically engaging in crazy making word games about what was weight and what was length. Then, unsurprisingly your other employees, came to her defense when she refused to finish my haircut. It would've been nice to walk out of your salon having had my hair washed and styled but instead I just have a partial bad cut. She only refused to finish it after I said was not gonna come back the next day for another haircut. She seemed to have some other agenda of wasting my time when I just wanted to come in and get a haircut. I have seen this technique used when businesses want to single people out to deny them service and make them responsible. The sequence is not listen, trigger, engage in crazy making behavior where they pretend they're not totally obviously not listening and doing their job, try to make the victim responsible, and then deny service if all else fails and blame the person. Dog piling and flipping the abuse onto the customer. It's just an obvious technique. I was completely patient while she was engaging in all of this and just tried to describe what I wanted. I described her behavior, simply as abusive behavior that I sat through. Your receptionist said that was a "big word". It's not a big word. It's a straightforward adjective to describe the sequence that I just described above. No one deserves it. Your employees seem to be trained to engage in it. Kyeann Sayer As badly as you want to be a victim, you aren't Kyeann. Jack offered you to see another stylist as a gesture of goodwill and way to de-escalate the situation when it became apparent she was not a good fit for you. We owe you nothing and will no longer be responding to your strange rants. Dee Ray Salon Black ABQ, NM I was polite the entire time your stylist was being abusive. No one should have to pay for the awful non-cut I got. If I had wanted to come back the next day (apparently to be fed by your network), I wouldn't have been kicked out. I was only kicked out when I said I would never be coming back to your salon again after the way Jacqueline treated me. I absolutely did not undermine your stylist. I showed her how dark my hair was on the side and she said that's where my hair was growing in. It looks waxy which means my hair is damaged. It's lighter in one section and darker in the back and middle. I just got it dyed on Tuesday. My hair was blonde because she used a 10 and should've used a 20 or higher. She washed it the dye before 30 -45 minutes. I guess she didn't know what she was doing. When she did the color correction, she had to consult Crystal for the color. Kristina tried to wash the color out again after 10, 15 minutes. I can't believe the owner ignored the issue after seeing it messed up. I think she ignored it because Kristina had a client in her chair. I wouldn't trust her to do anything. She doesn't do a good job. She didn't cut my hair good either. I think her pictures are stock photos or she can't work with African American hair like she said she could.

I waited about 10-15 minutes while she finished up the previous client. And the next client waited probably for a similar time. I sent a picture beforehand of a 20s era hairdo I wanted, but I was open to some artistic liberties. It included finger waves and necessitated my long hair being gracefully tucked under in the back. The style I ended up with wasn't what I was aiming for, but it was absolutely gorgeous nonetheless. I got sooooooo many compliments on it. It was very artfully done, with meticulous detail (and required an enormous quantity of Bobby pins!). She perfectly sculpted my blond highlights gorgeously against my dark hair and set it firmly in place. And that b!tch stayed put aaaaaaaall day n night, from 11am to 2am.
