Service was excellent, the menu concise and well executed. The interior seating, along a wall of windows, either a view of the outside or the kitchen, is comfortable and cozy. After giving the menu a good read over, we started with half a dozen local oysters. They were delicious, fresh and plump, sweet and flavorful. For the entree, the Sea Bass seemed to be in order for our night. Along with some ala carte green beans and a serving of their version of tomato bread. The fish was cooked to perfection, whole fish with head deboned, it was so juicy and flaky and hit all the boxes. One of the best servings of seabass I've had and I have had it numerous ways over the years. The tomato bread baked crisp with a nice tomato spread and grilled, simply delicious. The green beans, haricot verts, were beautifully prepared with a great grilled flavor and texture. A wonderful meal on many levels. Then dessert, the Dali cheesecake, was a work of art, really. A pair of red Dali lips, creamy rich light velvety smooth and delicious. A great end to an excellent meal. The vibe of La Esquina is super casual - there's a decently-sized dining area with a bar towards the back that serves as a focal point. There's nothing too noteworthy about the decor - it almost doesn't match the food they serve but that just might be my perspective. The menu is mostly tapas, separated by protein type. Additionally, they have some larger format rice dishes that are meant to be shared. We decided on tapas as well as one of the rice dishes - because why not both? For tapas, we ordered two skewers: pork and sea bass, croquettes, pimientos, patatas bravas, and steak tartate croissants. All the tapas were great - though the croissants and patatas were the biggest standouts. The latter were cooked perfectly and had a generous helping of sauces, while the former was super creative and delicious. Our rice dish had cuttlefish and prawns that was seasoned well and prepared in a tasty squid ink sauce. The rice was slightly firm, and that cuttlefish really came through. The overall flavor was heavy on the seafood so it may not be everyone's taste, but it worked for me. We opted for dessert, and went with the Crema Catalán. This was similar to a crème brûlée, but topped with a thin layer of caramel. It was really good, surprisingly not overly sweet and a great finisher to our meal. Service was good, everyone was really friendly and food came out at a good pace. It turns out it was a chocolate factory eons ago. Now it's a restaurant run by the same family that used to make chocolates. The decor inside is a mixture of traditional old fashioned and some new. It's a good mix. The service is friendly and attentive. The staff speak English as well as Español and Català. We had a leisurely, late, typical Catalan lunch. We were there almost 2 hours and enjoyed every minute of it. To drink we had a pitcher of sangria (26€), which was a perfect accompaniment to our lunch. The starters were pa amb tomàquet i oli (4.90€) (lightly toasted bread rubbed with tomatoes and oil), and ensalata burrata (16.9€) (burrata soft cheese over thinly sliced tomatoes accompanied with rocket lettuce, sun-dried tomatoes and olives). For the main course we had fidueà negra amb langostino (40.20€) (a black paella but with noodles instead of rice, with seafood). Delicious!
