I hired J & D Painting to paint my home this April. They told me the job would be 3 days (Starting…read moreon Wed April 10-Friday April 12th.) I rearranged my schedule to be home. They power washed my house that Wednesday. They told me would be back the following Monday. (That's an old contractor's trick). They resumed the following Monday. They were here all the following week which was not the plan. 1. They cut a wire to my Bay Alarm security system and damaged several connection points. 2. They broke the transformer to my landscape lighting. 3. They painted over the cobwebs in my breezeway. 4. They left my 50 ft. garden hose in knots. 5. They broke the latch on my front gate. I hadn't realized all the damage done but Harold took $200 off my bill. I won't recommend this company.

We needed a room painted quickly, to accommodate our busy schedule. I found John right here on Yelp. Unlike a couple of his colleagues, who were rude and dismissive on the phone (and one of whom has yet to call me back, a week later), John answered the phone promptly (on a Sunday!), addressed all of my questions, asked all of the right ones, and waited patiently while I consulted with my wife on his quote. He came the very next day, and completed the job in less than a day and a half. John provided expert input in choosing a shade and finish (who knew that white paint is not just white paint, or the secret to choosing the right white?). He showed up equipped with a copy of his license, insurance and bonding papers. Although he had to move some furniture and other items to do the job (and did so single-handedly and without complaint), he was able to get the job done with absolutely no disruption to the household. And it is truly the best paint job I have ever seen. John's business is called East Bay PAINTER, but it turns out that's not all he does. While he was working, I asked whether he happened to know a good handyman who could remove an old decaying wall cabinet and install shelves. John was happy to do the job, came back a couple of days later, and -- once again -- did a fast, efficient, reliable and professional job, even hauling away the old cabinet. Although he does not sell himself cheap (nor should he -- he is a topflight professional artist and craftsman!), John's prices are reasonable and competitive. John, you have certainly not seen the last of me!

I think he may have even saved our marriage! After the Direct TV installer left a mess, we needed it fixed. We hired a handyman off of Craiglist, which I do not recommend. He assured us he could clean up and make the house look like nothing had happened. He lied. When he was done, there were noticeable spots on the house, and we were out $200. I came to Yelp to find a painter to fix the mess this handyman had left behind. Well, I should have come to Yelp in the first place . . . I called John at East Bay Painter and told him our situation. He came by our house in an hour and gave us his assessment of what needed to be done and quoted a price cheaper than the stupid handyman from Craigslist. Within a week from his visit, he got a sample from the house to get the matching paint, painted the messed up area for an amazingly affordable price. I never dreamed that I could afford such a professional and pleasant painter for such a reasonable price! It was a relatively small job, but he treated us with the same level of respect as if we were having him paint the whole house. If you need anything painted, give John a call. I intend to work with him for as long as he paints! Thank you, John the super painter!

I was out of town when he came to my place but the condo was perfectly painted when I came home from vacation. Nick took the time to get the lines perfectly straight, the colors were exactly as I had hoped (we matched a few Benjamin Moore colors), and the place had been meticulously cleaned so there were no traces that they had even been there. Another important factor was that Nick was also already approved by my HOA for having the right kind/amount of liability insurance - which I actually found many painters to not carry. I would (and will!) use Nick again in a heartbeat.

I've emailed, I've called and called again and nothing - no response what-so-ever? I'll change my rating if/when I hear back but for now, this is pretty lousy service for a "would be" client. ***Update - After a fourth phone call, I finally reached the owner - Bob. He said that he "assumed I needed work right away and since he's busy, he decided not to call me back." I don't need someone right away, this was not a correct assumption. Upon further discussion he basically told me my house/job was too small for his "high end" company. He also started asking about extra projects to make my job "worth it" and when I told him I was a DIYer and could do those projects myself he sald "well I don't know how handy you are honey. You should take the other quote you've gotten." Based on this dialogue alone, I would not recommend this company. Unprofessional demeanor, unwilling to respond or refer me to someone who would handle a "smaller job," and extremely assumptive about the scope of work without knowing me, or speaking to me beforehand. A year ago, in this economy - I ASSUME he would have loved the work and the referrals I could bring.

Another charged by sq.ft but after going into details there were surcharges and other charges for changing colors. Robert quote came in half but much more reasonable than those guys. He also could get started within a couple days. On the painting day, everything went smoothly. He came with another man on time. Both of them moved some heavy furnitures (others were telling us to move by ourselves), taped and protected the floor. They did not skip another coat (even though it was not needed) to finish the job early. At the end, they made sure all furnitures were back in place. I would hire them again.

So, naturally, he was the one we called when we needed two large pergolas and a garden pavilion restored and repainted, as well as recaulking all of our exterior trim. Together, Rafael and Hugo of Flores Painting did an excellent job. It is clear that they take great pride in doing the job right. Although our particular deal with them was that they would provide the paint at their own expense, nevertheless they did not skimp on it. Instead, they purchased the best paint because they knew that anything less wouldn't provide as good long term protection for the pergolas and trim. In my experience, it is not often you find companies that go this far to ensure the longer-term durability of the job. Pricing was very reasonable, given the large amount of work involved. It was a pleasure working with them and I would recommend them to others looking for this type of service.
