I have been planning to get a few knives sharpened for some time. I finally did it! JR took my three knives and a pair of garden shears at 10am and I picked them up at 11. Prices are very reasonable. I am an appreciator of knives as opposed to a serious collector. I understand, having studied, the benefits of certain blade steels. I carry, in rotation, several I own (NOT cheap throwaways) and they get dull in time from use. Having lived in Seattle and Portland, I have had sharpening services there from the best (Tom Veff in Portland, Albert at Seattle Edge), guys who know and care. Sadly, I recently tried Central Oregon Sharpening. Never again. I gave Arlen 3 pocket knives (a Case Jack Knife, a Kershaw Link w/a 420HC Blade and a Kershaw CRYO w/an 8Cr13MoV Blade). The knives weren't all that dull (in fact, the Link was brand new) just not sharp. I didn't notice prices posted and didn't know any until I checked the website at home. The 3 pocket knives cost me $28. Trusting, I paid my bill. I cannot now, for the life of me, figure out how 4 small blades (2 on the Case Jack Knife: 1 5/8" & 2 3/8", Kershaws' blades are 2 5/8" and 3 3/8" - THESE are POCKET knives!) could have added up to $28, based on advertised prices of $4 for knives up to 6" and $4 to $8 for multiple blades. I GOT STUCK! Additionally, Arlen ran a belt or wheel into the aluminum handle of the Kershaw Link, notching it visibly. It was getting dark in the parking lot when I picked up my knives and I failed to notice until I got home. NOTHING was said. THAT's what upset me MOST! Looks like I paid $12 to have my knife spoiled. read more

I called Arlen to arrange sharpening of Weiss industrial scissors and a Gingher spring load sewing trimmer. He advised me that it, given my location best to meet him while he was at Whole Foods, a few blocks from my place. Brilliant work, brilliant customer service. He even tested my scissors out on the patterning film I was using. I could not be happier with the service. He knows his stuff. read more

Nice to have a mobile knife sharpening guy around the area. Saw him at newport market, and he was able to sharpen my Zero Tolerance 0801Ti pocket knife within an hour. When I got the pocket knife back he was impressed with the brand and the manufacturer of the blade and what not since their not all too common I guess. I gave my knife a quick glance over and was initially pleased. When I got home however I noticed that the sharpening was uneven, one side was ground down more than the other. And during the sharpening the titanium handle had some grinding marks on each side near the back of the blade. The knife is sharp as all get out, just a little disappointed in the fact that the angles aren't even, and the handle is scratched up. I'm sure this is a fluke thing, and isnt a common occurrence. I planned on bringing my hunting knife to him next time, but I might see how some more inexpensive kitchen knives turn out first. Definitely give him a try though! My knife is definitely sharper than when I sent it back to ZT to get sharpened. read more

My workhorse chef knife was in pretty urgent need of sharpening and this was especially becoming an issue during prime tomato season. It was great to find Central Oregon Sharpening at the Saturday Downtown Market and within 15 minutes my knife was back to top form. When on a visit to Bend I ran across the sharping truck at a flea market. He sharpened my pocket knife to an edge I was extremely happy with. If I lived in Bend I would have him sharpen my kitchen knives as well. read more
