Nobody understands how to actually assist patients with questions when the office is the one who has dropped the ball on getting a prescription authorization over to the insurance. Feels weird to be writing a review of a dermatology practice but I have been going here for years to see Dr. Devries since I am prone to moles (several of which have been removed). Like other medical offices, sometimes it takes a while longer to see the doctor after you arrive, but they do have a sign in the lobby that says to notify staff if you've been waiting a while. I definitely get a sense that Dr. Devries values me as a patient and is looking out for my best interest. I come annually for a mole check and to have anything unusual looked at. read more

I've been a patient for over 3 years but recently was very disappointed with the Skin Center. They refused to honor a package of facial treatments explaining that the policy regarding package terms has become more restrictive since the ownership change. They offered to "resell" me the 3 facial treatments left on my very expensive package at a 50% discount. I declined. Time to find a new dermatology service. read more

The Skin Center has rapidly gone downhill at the Chapel Hill location. The front office staff has never been well organized (likely due to the extremely high turnover they seem to have) but things have gotten worse. I had an appointment scheduled twice with Stephanie Carnell, the clinical nurse manager, for a laser procedure that she needed to move twice. After being moved the second time, I asked why I had to be moved again as I had again made arrangements to have down time to recover. I asked if another provider could see me and possibly if one of their patients who hadn't previously been moved could be moved instead. The next thing I heard from their office was a dismissal letter and refund. Being a healthcare provider myself and running a high end healthcare facility, I cannot imagine treating a patient with a valid request in this manner who was trying to find a way to not be moved for a second time. People have busy lives and make arrangements weeks and months in advance to make appointments. To treat client's time so flippantly is discourteous, especially when it happens multiple times. It is unprofessional to dismiss patients who bring valid requests and concerns to your attention. read more

I was an established patient who was turned away for my appointment because I showed up 15 mins late. Please keep in mind I had the appointment time wrong, (my fault I know) but the unwillingness to see me, even if I would have to wait longer due to being 15 minutes late was astounding to me. Especially when the same timeliness requirement is not provided to patients. If I could be guaranteed to never wait more than 10 mins total for a provider then ok but that is not the case. The front desk was stubborn and completely unwilling to help or let me be seen for the reamaining 15 minutes of my 30 min appointment. Also for context there was literally nobody in the waiting room. Needless to say that is not how I will be treated and I left and immediately moved to a new provider and practice. read more

I am so disappointed with this practice. I have been going there for almost 20 years and the last time I went I told the dermatologist that I had a lump on the end of my nose, she asked if I wanted it biopsied, I said yes. Yet she did not do it. Just now, I tried to make an appointment for two issues and they said I could only be seen for one for a "focused" appointment. Since when do doctors only see you for one thing and one thing only? I have had to remind some of the dermatologists to look at certain things (like my face), when I go for my annual mole check. I no longer feel that they care about me or my care and will not return to this practice. read more

Dr. Goldstein is a very good doctor; she even called me and left her number for if I had any questions or problems. I have since lost the number and wanted to point out some very important factors: #1. When have back surgery, everyone doesn't have a person to help them change bandages, etc. Such as myself, for I live alone. Fortunately, I work for Duke hospital, so I asked one of the nurses to assist me. #2. They should give us a follow-up appointment to double-check the area where you had surgery. #3. They didn't completely seal the lear patch on my back, for I had blood stains on my clothing. #4. They gave me another patch you are to leave on until it drops off or dissolves in the wound; however, it was such a small piece of material that it didn't completely cover the wound. #5. The area on my back where I had surgery has been giving me some problems. read more

I would not recommend this place to anyone. For starters, you're guaranteed to wait 20+ minutes after arrival. (There is literally a permanent sign posted in the waiting room: "If you've been waiting longer than 20 minutes, please alert our staff.") Why is that an ever-present issue? The doctors here can't be bothered to spend more than 3 minutes with you, and forget about trying to get to the root of your skin problem. If you want to be slapped with a steroid cream recommendation, by all means, spend 80 bucks and see a doctor who could care less about your skin problems. What worked for me was hours of my own internet research, my OWN request for a specific prescription, and a hell of a lot of advocating. In the end, I was the doctor. Avoid this place. They were not upfront with how my routine "checkup" was going to be billed and they billed it in a way where my insurance would not pay for it because it wasn't a "checkup". I called about 2-3 times to dispute this and they said they would look into it. It took them over 2 months to respond with "sorry, we can't bill it any other way because our doctor found something". They "found" a tiny mole so they billed it as something more than a checkup. Oh and they had promptly sent my bill to debt collections while I was waiting 2 months for their response. Currently dealing with that right now. This place is extremely dishonest and now it's actually affecting my credit! I will never go back. read more

I have been going to Central Dermatology for over 15 years. All of my visits have been exceptional. I have always felt like I have received professional and compassionate care. I have seen Beth Goldstein, David DeVries, Rebecca Todd Bell and Jennifer Adair. Laura Phillips helped once with a specific procedure and I remember a visiting health care professional from another country. The Medical Assistants have always been helpful and kind, which means they are being well trained. The staff at check-in and check-out are kind and helpful, which makes me think that the office manager is doing excellent work. In recent years, I have been seeing Jennifer Adair. She is the best health care professional I have ever seen, and I am long in the tooth! She lives on the left side of the bell curve, is completely thorough, extremely compassionate and is authentic, which I think is missing from many. I believe Beth Goldstein and Jennelle Williams were the visionaries of the company. It's undoubtedly operating as well as it has because of their projections and ideas. I have never had to wait too long, but I also have a different philosophy when it comes to health care. I don't mind waiting, because there might be someone in another room that has a serious issue. I would hope they would get more care. It's not like we are ordering a bowl of raviolis. It's the health of an individual, in some cases very serious. Because the reader of these reviews has no background on the writer. I would offer that I have studied communications for many years, I have owned multiple companies and have managed many people over the years. I am a keen observer of my surroundings and don't set my standards so high that they are unrealistic. Central Dermatology has been and continues to be a stellar health care facility. read more

I had an actinic keratosis dating back 30 years to pregnancy that started to change and was referred here by Duke when they had no openings. Well, the keratosis biopsy is clean, but Jenny Adair decided to biopsy a pale little lump by my nose that my supposedly excellent doctor in Cincinnati had dismissed for years as a sebbhoreic cyst. That biopsy came back in 24 hours for basal cell carcinoma, and I am feeling like a very lucky old girl right now. My eldest sister had melanoma and we lost her, and I am in remission from another kind of aggressive and rare cancer, but the derm in Cincinnati did not up his vigilance after the other cancer diagnosis, and none of the dermatologists there were very vigilant beforehand despite my risk factors, and I've never found anyone there or elsewhere as meticulous about whole-body checks as one doctor in New York nearly thirty years ago. Jenny Adair scheduled me for a whole-body check soon even before the biopsy results came back. I am feeling much safer in the care of Jenny Adair than I've felt for decades in this ridiculously pale and very sun-soaked skin, and expect I'll find she is as meticulous and observant as the New York doctor. Dr. Goldstein and her staff are great. I had to wait about 4-6 months for my initial appt with Dr. Goldstein herself -- I now see Anne Casperson every six months and can usually get an appt for the following week when I call. Dr. Goldstein herself spotted what turned out to be a melanoma on my neck, from across the room, when I was there regarding rosacea on my face. When the test for cancer was positive, Dr. Goldstein called me at home herself and gave thoughtful answers to all my questions. Even during follow-up appts with Anne Casperson, Dr. Goldstein stopped in to see how my melanoma scar was healing. I have been very happy with my appointments at Central Dermatology. The staff is very friendly, the waiting area is pleasant, and I have never once had a scheduling problem. read more

I paid $70 co-pay for a totally wasted visit. The PA I saw could not answer any of my questions and gave me a RX for a steroid cream which I already had from my previous doctor back in Richmond. The assistant Jen knew more than he did. No disrespect to the PA but with such a high co-pay I want to get the most out of my visit and avoid additional visits if at all possible. read more

I decided to adult today - acknowledging that I'm now in my thirties and will likely have to pay for all of the sun damage I brought upon myself in my twenties. I called to schedule a full body scan just to get on a more annual schedule and surprisingly they got me in first thing the next day. That never happens, ever. Dr. DeVries was great! Very professional, thorough, really explained what was happening with individual moles (TMI, I know - good thing is they're all fine). He gave me some options if I wanted to get things removed but said there was no hurry - taking measurements and photos to really be able to see the changes if there are any. Overall, I was pleased, it was well-worth the co-pay, and I'm glad I took care of myself. I'll be back. read more

I have never been to a dermatologist and this was my first visit. I chose this place since it's about 2 miles from my house. I have fair to medium type skin and needed to get some of my beauty marks and moles checked out. I also had a rash on the back of my neck that needed to be looked at as well. I scheduled an appointment via phone call and they set me up with Dr. Williams. Throughout my appointment Dr. Williams and her staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. They were very thorough and took lots of photos of my different beauty marks and the rash in the back of my neck. One of my beauty marks was concerning to Dr. William so we scheduled for minor surgery to have it removed and tested. She also tested the rash my neck and wrote me a prescription for a shampoo and the lotion. She gave me very informative instructions on how to properly use the medication for the rash. My surgery was scheduled about a week later. It was very quick and painless. Again Dr. Williams and her staff are all very nice and made me feel very comfortable and at ease during the surgery. Test results came back negative for cancer or any other disease. A couple weeks after the surgery, one of the internal stitches started popping out and I was somewhat concerned about it. By the time I schedule an appointment Dr. Williams the stitch had already dissolved/fell off but Dr. Williams was still able to see me. Since it was such a brief check up she did not charge me a co-pay for the visit. I thought that was very generous since my specialist co-pay is $40 with my insurance coverage. Overall, I've had a very positive experience at Central Dermatology and recommend Dr. Williams and her staff. read more

As a fair skin guy that spent many summers out in the sun, I have a lot of skin concerns. Dr. Cheng was able to diagnose a skin cancer early and Dr Goldstein was wonderful during the MOHS surgery I needed. I did not feel rushed at all with Dr Cheng and she was able to answer all of my questions. The staff are super helpful and friendly when scheduling my surgery as well. Dr Chengs medical assistants were very helpful in responding to all of my questions through the portal. read more

Because of my busy schedule I've seen several different providers here and loved my experience with all of them. I found my first skin cancer when I was in college and so I am vigilant about my yearly (and now twice a year) full body mole checks. This office is great with these: they are efficient, take pictures, and make notations about my many moles to track their growth over time in a way that reduces the number of biopsies needed but makes sure that we know when bad growth has occurred to make additional incisions. Highly recommend for this service! read more

I only give 1 star because I cannot give any less. Seeing Dr. Rebecca Todd Bell is a complete waste of both time and money. I consider myself a fair reviewer and will give a doctor a chance if they at least try. Dr. Todd Bell does not even put forth the slightest effort in her appointments and her patient care, or should I say, lack thereof care. She does not examine your skin closely; has zero interpersonal skills; and makes no effort to truly understand her patient's issues. I had an appointment with Dr.Cheng today at their Cary center. I was made to wait for almost 1 hour from my actual appointment time. When the doctor finally came she was in such a rush, hardly spoke to me for 3-4 minutes. Also, she did not even bother to ask me if I would prefer to be examined privately as there was a male nurse in the room and she went ahead with the examination while he was still there. I've been a patient of Central Dermatology for many years. I get a complete cancer screening at least every 6 months, and receive treatment and supervision for my ongoing psoriasis. Dr. Jonas is my doctor, and a very, very through doctor she is. I credit her to saving my life at least once by finding an aggressive cancer before it consumed me. That leads to Dr. Goldstein, who removed the cancer. I only went under the knife once as she got it all the first time. Many of my friends have had similar surgery and had to have repeated tissue removal (and lab analysis) before the cancer was completely removed. I appreciate both of these fine doctors very much... they are both true professionals in every way. I feel indeed fortunate to have found them... especially Dr. Jonas who is a very special doctor. If you need these kinds of services (and you will some day), I highly recommend Central Dermatology. ...and don't forget the sunscreen! read more

I feel like Central Dermatology has a pretty large clientele, but my visits were both pleasant and personal. The staff is largely female, with only one male doctor on staff. It's conveniently located on Hwy 54 near 1-40 and there's plenty of parking. One half of the building is a medical dermatology facility, while the other side houses a cosmetic dermatology practice. Upon entering the office the friendly office staff will likely offer you water or tea, which is a nice touch. The doctors are knowledgable and capable and the assistants are so personable and friendly. I kind of wish that their website would list pricing (at least for the aesthetic services), but they do have an email listserv that advertises specials. read more

Went there recently for a yearly skin check. Dr. Cheng spent a lot of time touching my upper lip and said I had a precancerous area there. It's important to note that she neither wore gloves nor washed her hands when she came into the room. Two days later I had the biggest cold sore ever. It is not their policy to wear gloves when examining people and she would not tell me what the patient before me had been treated for. Although I have had cold sores in the past (maybe once a year), this one came up 2 days after being mis-treated by Dr. Cheng. Don't go there! read more

I would not return here. I am very disappointed with the way the PA and office handled a billing issue. They are not upfront with how they are billing appointments. I called ahead of time to check on the cost of an appointment, and they ended up billing almost twice what they said it would be. When challenged, the office said it was because the appointment was 25 minutes not 15 minutes. This was for a prescription refill and a sight check of a mole. The PA could not have been in there longer than 10 minutes. We called to challenge them and they would not adjust. Unfortunately, it felt as if they were more interested in making money than patient care. read more
