Clayton was able to come out same day for my residential door problem, which is great. He took apart the door, did not have parts on the truck to fix it, and had to go back to the shop to study it. That was two weeks ago, and I have not been able to get a call back, a text back, or an email back since. A waste of $85 for the service call, plus an additional waste of $15 tip. I was charged $95 for a simple key cut with no programming. A bit steep IMHO. Programming my complex fob would've only been $50 more -- which is a bit disappointing, seeing that thatwas the actual service I had requested and still desperately need. But the guy was friendly and easy going. He showed up right after I called for the service, outside of typical business hours, which was cool. And I now have a key that I can use to start my car. Unfortunately I can't lock it because my OEM fob wouldn't program for whatever reason. read more

First time using this company. They are very honest, the technician was very knowledgeable.

I called them late in the afternoon for a repair on my front door lock. I scheduled an appointment for the next morning. The technician, Clayton, was courteous, knowledgeable, on time, and worked quickly. He fixed our front door in less than 30 minutes. I don't know whats wrong with these people. I called and asked whether they could do a complex car key duplicate for me, they were like sure, no problem. Told me when they expected it, I was going to come over a couple days later to give the key a bit of a margin for arrival. Never heard a thing from them. I called again, they were all aggressive about how they had waited for me!! So I didn't get into it, we made a proper appointment, since the key had arrived apparently. And today I drove an hour over the hill specially for that, in buckets of water and thick fog, and they outright stood me up. Didn't answer my repeated phone calls even later in the day. So who knows, maybe they're OK when you've locked yourself out of the house or something, and they can play savior cowboy. But I certainly wouldn't recommend them for anything that required any actual communication. read more

I highly recommend Central Coast Lock because I broke the key to the driver's side door in half in the door lock. I did a search for a person who could repair it but quickly discovered that 90% of locksmiths or key makers are mobile and expensive. I then remembered Central Coast conveniently located on Spring St. in Paso Robles and went there. They have a parking lot behind their store and the employee had a special tool to remove broken keys stuck in a lock. I had an extra key made for the front door my house and was surprised by the low price for both jobs. The employee was courteous, friendly, and the price was very reasonable. read more

An older woman was locked out of her house a few weeks ago and I knew I needed to call someone to help her. I was in oceano and I looked up these guys and called. A young man answered the phone "central coast lock" how can I help you? I asked if there was anyone from the company in oceano, I have an elderly woman who is locked out of here house and she is a bit nervous. Can you send someone over to help her? He said "sorry, we're by appointment only". I asked him what happens in an emergency? How can you make an appointment then? He said he may be able to get some there in 1and a half ti 2 hours. I asked him is there anyone else I can call to help this lady and he said he didn't know. I was nervous for this older woman and trying my best to help her and he didn't seem to care. I eventually found a guy from another local locksmith company in San Luis, The office manager who answered was very sweet and seemed concerned and wanted to help. She said she would call the next 2 appointments and see if they could hold off because of the situation. They were fine with it and the woman was met and her mind was put at ease in this situation. I think maybe in this situation a concerned tone and a bit of thinking and she could have been helped sooner. This was a wasted call for sure. read more

This guy is a joke! Went out to our property and wouldn't drive up the driveway because there were weeds. Really? OMG! He drives a truck and I drive up it with my Nissan Altima all the time. Said if we cleared our driveway he would be back. Yeah right like we would call you again. read more

Three hours from home, I locked my car key in the trunk. Fast forward 20 hours later and after two auto-clubs have come and gone and I realize my only option is a locksmith. I leave a request for a quote on Yelp and a gentleman calls in under 5 minutes. He quotes me a fair price (think discounted hotel room at nice place like Hampton) and arrives from next town in about 45 min. I have a new key in about 35 minutes, pay on square, and head home. Most of his work done on the tailgate of his truck--grocery store parking lot where I was stranded. He made a very frustrating and stressful time all better! Thank you! read more

I needed a new key made for my car since I lost mine. I had the part with the buttons to push to lock/unlock the car, but the actual key fell out somewhere. Central coast lock doc was super responsive and quick, and someone came out right away. After about 4 hours of work, the guy had a made a new key but it wouldn't turn over in the ignition. He said he could look more at it the following week since it was nearing 5pm on a Friday. He didn't charge me for his work thankfully since the issue wasn't resolved. Interestingly enough I found my key over that weekend, but now it wouldn't turn over in the ignition either. I gave them a call on Tuesday and they came out pretty quickly again, same guy. Another 4ish hours later, and he said that he can't fix it, the key still doesn't work, and that I'll likely have to go to the dealership to get it resolved. Again, didn't charge me for his labor because I still didn't have a working key. I take it to the dealership a few days later, and I need a new ignition. $1350 later. I saw central coast lock doc take apart my ignition the 2nd time they came out, but they denied that to my husband over the phone (likely not wanting to own up to the fact that their guy broke my ignition). After all, my car was working just fine before I lost my key and central coast lock doc touched my car. I get that this is a unique situation, but denying what you did/didn't do in order to avoid liability is not someone with integrity, and therefore someone I don't recommend doing business with. read more

Forgot Appointment Still showed up 40 minutes late Charged more than quoted Sent picture of lock, showed up unprepared. Told me that I need to order parts myself. Spent 3 minutes at my house. Charged me $120 to open the door. Two of those minutes were spent boggled by why the door wouldn't open. Turns out they forgot the unlock the deadbolt before turning the knob. Then have the audacity to try to convince me that they are saving me $95 and that they are doing me a huge favor Typical locksmith Highway robbery. STAY AWAY!!! You'll have a better time watching a YouTube video than feeling left cheated. read more

I was helping my neighbor who had locked his key in his new Vette....and the engine was running! AAA was called but advised they were not able to get into the car. Call because I was having issues with the front door lock mechanism. Agreed to the $85 just for showing up from atascadero to Templeton approximately 8 to 10 minute of drive, technician replace the inner locking mechanism amount $20 total bill $230 $85 for showing up, $20 for the locking mechanism, $120 per hour and he was only here for approximately 12 minutes and no more and I could substantiate that because I had a real estate agent here at the time and a painter here also at the same time so it's not imaginary this is absolutely asinine and ridiculous. I will spread the word to any and all people I know friends, relatives, acquaintances that if they have issues with any locks whatsoever do not under any circumstances utilize this company it is overpriced and it is just completely ridiculous to pay the amount. Not even attorneys, lawyers charge that amount usually attorney / lawyers are 15 minute increments it should have been prorated out the $120 I will be filing a complaint with the better Business bureau in the department of consumer affairs. read more

Great pricing even though my stupid key is expensive , he gave me a variety of key options that where cheaper then the dealership. He overnighted my key even during these difficult shipping times and came out to my house the same day he got it. Super quick when he got here and payments where super easy. This place is awesome. Lost my key to my 2012 Yamaha R6 9 months ago and felt defeated knowing Yamaha wanted to charge me for a whole knew ignition system and key. So finally I figured I would call around and see if any locksmith around the area could possibly make me a key for my bike and the first place I called was Central Coast Lock Doc. A guy answered the phone (I totally forgot his name) but he was super nice and when I told him my situation he said he would give me a call back to see if he had the tools to make a key for my bike. He gave me a call back within 10 minutes and said he could have a guy out to me in 10 minutes. (And by the way this was almost 6pm right before they closed) the guy that came out was Clay and he was super cool. Clay spent a little over an hour tinkering on my bike to make the perfect fitting key. Matthew at Central Coast Lock Doc saved us last month when our only RV cabinet keys broke off in the lock. Not only did Matthew respond to my Yelp messages at Midnight, 1am, but he also agreed to meet us at our next destination. In our RV storage we had all of the musical instruments & gear for TWO bands that were playing in Morrow Bay that day. Matthew showed up right after we arrived to our venue & had two brand new keys ready to go. They both worked & we had the 1st band unloaded & on stage in time for soundcheck. I think this young man is a fine locksmith. His keys work well, and he tried to be prompt. The locks he installed work smoothly. But- in working on my car, he broke the driver side door handle. He seemed surprised, and told me he would try to get a friend to fix it. But never heard from him again. He recommended that I use a rope in the passenger seat in back to open the door. Really. Now, my "fix" for the door handle will be almost to the dollar, the same as his lock work. I can not recommend him based on this. read more

Wonderful experience! The deadbolt lock broke after door was locked upon leaving the home. Tried another locksmith in my town, (only one in my town) but even though I told them what the situation was, he arrived yelling at me, saying he had no time to put a new deadbolt in and I would have to schedule another day. Tried 2 other locksmiths, but no one available that day. I then called Central COast Lock Doc, even though he was about 30 minutes away from my town, Matt said of course he could come. The key to our son's padlock on his bag fell off and was left at home. It was needed for his camping gear as we were dropping him off the next day. (We traveled from South Orange County so we were definitely stressed out!) I called on the evening of Christmas at about 9 PM. Of course, Central Coast Lock was closed; however, their message provided three other numbers to call if it was an emergency. I called the first number and Jim quickly answered. He was very kind and offered to drive over if we felt it was necessary. (He did preface it would be costly, and suggested to come in the next day.) Luckily, they were open at 9AM for us to get the lock open. As soon as we arrived, Jim greeted my husband and I, and opened the lock (picked it) in a matter of seconds so that we could save the lock.
