We were told that even though we'd gone for dog-friendly cabins, they'd be done up by the time we got there, but they weren't. The ceilings were stained nicotine yellow, two of the 4 beds were broken, with nails sticking out of them, and the extractor fan in the bathroom didn't work. The garden/patio area was unkempt and messy, and the whole place just felt unclean and damp. It was meant to be a special occasion, with my entire family hiring three cabins to celebrate my dad's 70th birthday, and we made the best of it by spending all the time in the pool or playing badminton or tennis, or going on bike rides or walks, but hardly any time in the cabin relaxing. Perhaps that's the idea - make the living areas manky so that people spend more money and time in the rest of the park Expensive for what you get, and I could have gone to Venice for the weekend for the amount it cost me. I wish I had, to be fair.

Centre Parcs in Elveden is a great place to take kids for a long weekend (Friday afternoon - Monday…read moremorning) or more. There are plenty of free activities for a short stay (playparks, swimming areas, walks, bird-watching hide) and, if you are lucky enough to live close by, you get plenty of holiday time for your buck as there are no flights or long drives involved. And you certainly feel like you are in the countryside with trees, lakes and wildlife everywhere. The downsides are that it is not cheap (to rent, to eat, to shop or to do any of the paid activities) and the standard of furnishing can be a little basic and worn (that said, there are some very nice renovated lodges). We also chose to take all our food with us and to cook ourselves rather than eating out, as previous experience at another CP (Sherwood Forest) suggested the food is nothing special. I'm still debating whether we will go back again any time soon - it's not great value and I can imagine that after a few days, you start to run out of free things to do, but for a much-needed, quick and easy weekend getaway (we live just 30 mins' drive away) it was just about spot-on and the children loved it.

Gladwins Farm is a brilliant holiday cottage location in the Suffolk/Essex border. We booked a…read moreweekend over there last Christmas and we're thinking about going again this year. The owners are very welcoming and last Christmas we were greeted with yule tide joy wine, mice pies and chocolate snowmen for the children. As a holiday cottage, Gladwins is set in the perfect location with plenty to see and do in the local area. The beach isn't far away, you can take a trip to see Colchester castle or just enjoy the beautiful countryside. Even in the dead cold of British winter Gladwins makes a perfect holiday home. I loved it and I'd highly recommend it to anyone else.

St ives bay Holiday Park in Cornwall is where I used to go on holiday with my two sisters, two…read morebrothers and stepdad. I have to say we used to have so many adventures and so much fun, I have so many memories of this place. You can stay either by camping, caravanning or staying in a chalet, I have experienced all 3 my favourite was staying in a caravan but the chalet was just as good. Camping is also very good as they have showers, launderettes and a local shop ect so you have everything you need. They have various playgrounds and an arcade and a pub where they also host bingo, the beach is very nice which isn't too far from Newquay. St. ives has a security entrance and you are given a square sticker to place on your car window so you do not have to get stopped every time you want to get back in to the holiday park. I would definately recommend this as a holiday in the UK.

The on site swimming pool was excellent and the children really enjoyed it on one of the days when we had rain. The property is ideally situated for a holiday in Suffolk and has incredible views across the Blyth valley. We definately plan to be back. Highly recommended - 5 stars!
