After that Dahlia was on my brain for the rest of the week. I was so happy that I was able to get reservation because Dahlia wasn't going to leave my brain until I had had some Pan con Tomate. This place is located in an old house in the Coronado neighborhood. There is a very cute front patio that is shielded from 7th St. by shrubs. The front porch is enclosed with windows, and they managed to fit several tables in there. We've sat inside the porch area before, and it has a different feel from the main bar and dining area. In the main dining area there are a few tables and bar that runs the length of the room. It's such a nice cozy atmosphere. The food here is kind of a fusion of Spanish with a touch of Mexican - - and no they are not the same. In fact, there very different. I absolutely adore Spanish food, so I really appreciate that aspect of Dahlia. The cocktail menu has some wonderful choices, and every time we've come here I've ordered the Black Dahlia. If it's so yummy! Hubby ordered the Agua de Valencia, also yummy, but I stand faithfully by my Black Dahlia. The menu here is tapas, so you order a few (or several) small (or larger) shareable plates. We started with something I absolutely love: Pan con Tomate. The toasted Noble bread with the tomato and garlic is so good. We followed that with charcuterie, which included Iberico chorizo, jamon Serrano, and manchego, among other items. It is a perfect charcuterie. That port wine cheese--so good. Next, we ordered the potato croquettes. Super smooth potato with jamon Serrano and brava sauce and crema--chef's kiss! I want to be lying if I said I wanted these potato croquettes every day of my life. Finally, we ordered the special, which was octopus in a cilantro sauce. Omg--so delicious! The octopus leg (arm??) was quite large, and perfectly prepared--not at all chewy. The sauce was good, but I liked it best with just a touch of the sauce. One of the things that I like about this place is that the owner goes from table to table to make sure everybody is enjoying their experience. If you've read my reviews before, you know that I find this to be a really great touch. A manager or owner who takes that time really cares about the customer.
