So, we had fresh bagels for dinner and they were delicious. The bagels were coated on both sides with a perfect blend of carmelized onion bits, aromatic garlic, sea salt, sesame and poppy seeds. I could taste that the seasoning were freshly prepared, as were the bagels. We purchased the bagels from the "Bearded Bagel" chef at the Westfield Farmers Market. He is a regular vendor and was friendly. Bagels range from $10-$12 /pack of six. I was excited to learn that the Bearded Bagels can also be found at their store on 96th Street. Upon closer inspection, it hit me that I took the pic because I wanted to explicitly call out its awesomeness in this review. It is chalk full of dishes that sound like they came out of my dreams. Here are a couple noteworthy examples: 5280 PB & J - ok, this one didn't come out of my dreams, because I don't eat pork, but literally, if I discovered this two years ago before I went semi-kosher, I would be all over it. Roast pork loin, pepper bacon, fig & plum jam on a pretzel bun?! Yes, I did just rewrite the menu for you, but it should be shared with the world. Mr. Potato Head and Cheese - I once wrote has there ever been a match made in heaven that beats truffle and French fries? The answer is now yes, truffles and tater tots. This dish also includes grated parmesan and chopped garlic. Every other dish sounds as good as these, but I'm going to have to let you read the menu yourself. We ended up getting 4 Real Kettle Chips. I was not hungry. I had a ginormous omelet for lunch and I was still having problems buttoning my pants. Yet, once I saw these gorgeous kettle chips, I had to try some. And by some I mean I ate way more than my fair share (I wasn't even the person who bought them). They are generously topped with parmesan and at $4 its an absolute steal. Everything else on the menu is between $7 and $10, which is such a great deal for the quality of this food. We ran into the food truck outside Bier Brewery. Since this was the first brewery we stopped at during our Indy Brew Bus tour, I'm confident in saying I was still sober enough to truly appreciate the food. The owner of the bus is super friendly. I could tell he cared about providing great dishes. This continues my theme of reviews where I'm basically commanding everyone to support local! No ice cream for me, however, because I'm not a fan. But my children like that cold, sweet mucus, so off we went by foot to enjoy the sun and the new Ben & Jerry's in Carmel. The only Ben & Jerry's in Indiana is located on the corner of Rangeline Road and 116th Street. It's also just right off of the Monon Trail, which is how we got to it. If you visit Central Park, just follow the walking paths to the Interurban Trail, which goes around the park, and take it to the end. Voila! The ice cream shop. They got all the hits here: Cherry Garcia, Chunky Monkey, Half Baked. My children wanted simpler flavors, though: plain chocolate and chocolate chip cookie dough in a cup. But you'll find all of your favorite B&J flavors here, scooped out fresh. They also have pints in a little freezer off to the side, as well as pup cups. We brought our dog, and because he has serious FOMO, we got him one of the pup cups: peanut butter and pretzel. Another one of my dog's issues is that he has no sense of his own mortality, so he tried to eat the whole frozen block of ice cream in one gulp, and then almost choked on the ice cream. So be aware: The pup cups are very frozen! You might want to let them melt a bit before feeding them to your dog. You'll also find brownies and chocolate chip cookies, ice cream cakes that you can order (no cakes to grab-and-go that I saw), cookie dough bites, ice cream bars, sundaes and shakes. There are a few seats inside, but since the Monon Trail is just steps away, if you ask me, your best bet is to get your ice cream to go and enjoy it while walking.
