Worst burger ever! Definitely stretching the meat with flour/ wheat. It was really tough. Waitress was really sweet.

Doc Magilligan's Restaurant & Irish Pub - Fish & Chips always good

Sure, it was good... but Doc's knocked by socks off. I went here on a recommendation from the staff at a hotel that competes with the Best Western where Doc's is located, which is always a good sign for a hotel restaurant. Got the corned beef boxty, which is amazing. With the boxty fries, which were really good - much better than standard fries, in my opinion. And had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Heavenly. I actually went back two days later after dinner at another restaurant to have the sticky toffee pudding one more time. The atmosphere is very nice, like a pub should be, with good service from the bartender, music the second night I was there, and some good conversation with a fellow traveler from London (Ontario). The odds are high that I'll be back. If you're looking for somewhere to burn all the delicious calories, my suggestions are the Niagara River Recreation Trail (from Fort Erie to Niagara-on-the-Lake) and the Niagara Gorge Hiking Trails. Three and a half out of five for Doc's matches. They burn well, and are a cool souvenir, but it's difficult to strike them on the side of the box. Still useful to have around the house where I can strike them on the side of another box, but not ideal for a retro night out on the town.

Tasty Pub Fare, Great Vibes & Even Better Reuben Bites!…read more Doc Magilligan's is a cozy Irish pub with a solid menu, a great beer selection, and a lively atmosphere. We really enjoyed the live music--it definitely added to the vibe, though it did make chatting a bit tricky at times. That said, the sets were short and added a fun touch to the evening. We started with a few appetizers, and everything hit the spot--the cauliflower bites were tasty, the spinach dip was solid, but the star was definitely the Reuben Bites--absolutely delicious! For mains, my wife ordered the mac and cheese and loved the depth of flavour--you can really taste the leeks, which was a nice twist. I got the chicken parm mac and cheese and thought it was fantastic--the chicken was juicy, crispy, and perfectly done. The rest of our group was just as happy--my brother raved about the Chicken Pot Pie, and the Bangers and Mash were also a hit. Overall, a great Irish pub experience with comforting food, friendly vibes, and some standout dishes. Definitely worth a visit!

The staff here are pretty friendly, and the service was pretty fast. The restaurant itself can use some work, but I loved sitting in their patio! Definitely recommend it during the summer. Although we came for drinks, we started getting a bit hungry, so we decided to order the Chipotle Nachos, and WOW, it was so delicious! Believe it or not, I haven't had delicious nachos like this for a while. Definitely will be back if I'm in the area!

Though they're all over the city, I'm pretty sure this was my first experience with a Fionn…read moreMacCool's. (It's pronounced Finn, right?) Anyway, we showed up on a Thursday evening around 6:00 and the place was about half full, so we managed to snag a quality table right by the window. The primary purpose of the visit, from my perspective, was to drink some beer, but we were informed that all appetizers (except nachos! boooo!) were 50% off. A quick perusal of the menu led me to the Signature Blarney Chips ("Waffle-cut potatoes smothered in kick'd up ale cheese sauce, topped with diced tomatoes, green onions and Jalapeño peppers. Served with salsa and sour cream with chives for dipping.") Okay, first of all, the portion of this thing is *enormous*. This could easily feed four people, so it goes without saying that we wound up leaving about half the plate behind. It's okay. The waffle-cut potatoes are kind of tasteless and the ale cheese sauce is a little generic, while the rest of the toppings don't really make much of an impact. But when you're quaffing beer after beer, I'll admit that these things hit the spot and get the job done. But because we didn't realize how big a dish this was, my dining companion also ordered the Veggie Burger ("Made-in-Pub chickpea veggie patty, arugula, sliced hothouse tomatoes, roasted red peppers and creamy avocado ranch. Topped with a skewer of crispy golden brown onion rings and served with a dill pickle on the side.") It's a veggie burger. It didn't really seem better or worse than the majority of veggie burgers I've ever eaten (and I haven't eaten a ton), although it certainly pales in comparison to the one at Fresh. The mediocre food aside, Fionn MacCool definitely seems like a decent place to go grab a drink or two.
