First and foremost I appreciate the professionalism shown by Cadye with her prompt emails and answering all of my questions. She and Clint put together an awesome itinerary, our only ask was to tour Slate Theory. Everything else was suggested and curated by Cellar Rat. Second I appreciate Clint, for the whole experience the day of the tour. We paid for a private tour and it was just that. He sent a text the morning of the tour to let me know when he was set to arrive. He arrived 1 minute early in the SUV and greeted us when we came out. He had a cooler in the truck with ice and water. He is well versed in all things vino and super down-to-earth. We started the tour at Texas Wine Collective where they rolled out the red carpet. We were doing the tour on a Monday so we pretty much had the whole winery/tasting room to ourselves. Sandy at Texas Wine Collective was awesome, ask for her if you visit. While we did our tasting, Clint went to grab our lunch from Fresh Pickens. The food was AWESOME! It hit the spot definitely after all the wine and cheese Sandy gave us! After lunch, we took some photos around the property then hopped in the SUV and on to the next winery, Kuhlman Cellars. Where we were met by Malachi. Malachi served us a flight of 5 wines, 3 selected by Kuhlman and 2 selected by my wife and me. We took a couple of photos out near the vines then headed on to the last winery, Slate Theory. Slate Theory's tasting room is by far the best experience. Words can't explain it. By the time we got to Slate Theory we didn't really want to learn about the wine, we just wanted to drink; and that we did. We hung out there for about an hour before heading back to the Airbnb. Great day of drinking! Met some awesome people and got to enjoy my wife on our anniversary. Clint knew everybody by the way, definitely makes the difference when you visit because you feel like family at each location. The only thing I would change about the tour would be to add an actual tour of the facilities and vineyard to the experience. I'm a visual learner and it would be cool to tour the distillation area and barreling process while learning about the wines. All in all, I give Cellar Rat Tours 5 STARS "A+++". PS: Slate Theory charged us for the wine tasting and Clint stepped in and handled the situation and orchestrated the refund to our credit card. This guy does it all! He's our main man for real. I booked Cellar Rat Tours so that our entire group of 6 could enjoy tastings at the two wineries we had appointments at. Clint the owner and our driver for the day picked us up at our hotel promptly at 10. He was actually a few minutes early, but for our group that was great we were already to get the day started. Two of our friends had never been to Fredericksburg before so it was nice that Clint could share all kinds of fun facts with them. We were driven around in Clint's 7 passenger SUV that looked like it was brand new. It had plenty of room for everyone and for the few purchases that were made. Booked a tour with Cellar Rat during the first day of our trip to Fredericksburg since we had never been. We thought a tour would be a good way to get our bearings. We stayed just out of town on the west side of 490 so our "wine" tour started with a quick tour of main street which was helpful later when making dining decisions and deciding our our tourist stops. Clint was very knowledgeable about the town, the wineries, wine in general, and very personable. He had all our stops planned out and tastings booked. Definitely relaxing to have all that handled for you so you can enjoy your vacation. The tours are somewhat determined by the agenda/goal of the people on the tour meaning you stops might be different. I was told some tours are based on the best views, best wines, and possibly distillery tours if that is of interest. We wanted an idea of what the area had to offer which took us to Kuhlman, William Chris, and Astris. We also had some samples during lunch at Hye Market which was a great stop as well. Several stops included a tour of the grounds and a behind the scene look at the production side of wine making. We ended the trip that day with about a dozen bottles of wine, a mix of reds and white, which is a testament to the quality of the stops and wines the area has to offer as we primarily drink dry red wines; typically pinot noirs. We had a 11 people with us for the tour so were in their largest tour van, and even with the large number of people Clem was able to keep the tour feeling small and intimate. 2 of the 11 people were very interested in the actual wine making process and Clem to the extra time to discuss more in depth the process as well as show the group the actual wine cellar where the wine was stored. We were looking for a mixture of red and white wines as well as making a stop at a brewery. As this trip was taken to relax a bit we opted to go a more relaxing atmosephere. Clint from Cellar Rats was the perfect driver and escort for 3 excellent wineries in Hye, TX. He was absolutely right on time to pick up 9 of us. He was professional yet friendly. The cooler was stocked with water to keep us hydrated. We appreciated his help in and out of the van at each stop. Our only tip for improvement was lunch.
