My colleague in London…read moresuggested taking a walk through Brixton my last evening at our London offices back in September as I had not really been on that side of the Thames and am pretty adventurous. He also suggested coming here for dinner which I decided to take him up on that even though where Franco Manca is located has a lot of very interesting food venues which reminds me of Grand Central Market in downtown Los Angeles. The staff was helpful and sat me immediately. I ordered a glass of wine which was just okay. I'm not really knowledgable about wines so I guess my way through it and this one wasn't as good as others I've had. I ordered one of the more basic pies as I feel that should really be the tell-tale sign of a good pizza. The crust and dough of this pizza was truly excellent as was the cheese. The sauce lacked a bit of flavor and freshness. It wasn't a bad sauce, but I like when there's a fresh and very strong tomato taste which I didn't get eating this. After eating a full pizza, I didn't look to get a dessert and didn't even check to see if they had one. Overall, a decent pie to eat in a very peculiar area! When I arrived back to South Kensington, I noticed there was a location of Franco Manca a block away! Oh well. It was better to see a different area of London.

Cooked in a wood pizza oven meant the pizza retained its freshness but still had a slight crunch even with being doughy (put not as doughy as Franco Manca which I loved). I also really like how tomatoey it was - I love plenty of tomato on a pizza and this pizza definitely had it. Would I come again - hell yes! It's in Pop Brixton which is an awesome location for spring/summer vibes, pizza and maybe a few beverages! Very happy Bethany!

Their tiny kiosk in Brixton Pop Up does not look like much which is a testament to the power substance can have over form. With a quarter of the space occupied by neatly made wood fired ceramic oven you instantly know this is a place of business, true pizza business. Feeling shroomy (no, autocorrect, it IS a word!) I went for the Truffle pizza with portobello mushrooms (they look a bit similar to their magical cousins, maybe thats the secret), fior di latte, white alba truffle oil and burrata. Dough: beautiful saltiness to play with the chewy texture and amazing complex flavour. No idea how they pack so much experience into dough but this is the quality I only tasted in Homeslice before. And on the dough the quality continues with the fresh, amazingly stretchy and light burrata. The mushrooms complete the taste to provide a teuly gourmet experience. I am not kidding, this was an exceptionally good pizza. Actually, despite I dont like revisiting food venues in London (there is too much new still to explore) I might be actually coming back to taste different pizzas from their offer!

That was a bad choice on foot unless you're close by as this place is literally in a warehouse in dodgy area in my mind. I could hardly believe it's location but whatever works and whatever is cheapest. I ordered their Firezza pizza which was really nice and the Banoffi (still think it's spelled Banoffee) pie was very nice! I would recommend this place for the food and only pick it up if you have a car. That's my recommendation.

The foundation, the base, the rock on which any pizza is built, is the dough. Why oh why does yours always come out with a minimum of flavour, and a maximum of chewiness? Honestly, cutting you up is a workout in itself to say nothing of the exhausting mastication process that follows. *sigh* So 2 stars it is, and those are awarded solely on the toppings. Chorizo is flavourful, moist, expectantly oily but not overly so, the chicken + roasted red peppers + mozzarella on a pesto base is a lovely combination as well. If you please would sort out the dough formulation, perhaps a little thinner, a bit less hydrated, you could elevate yourself immeasurably. Until then I will just have to hope.

Im disappointed that in a place as diverse and forward thinking as Brixton that I have to write this - but one woman was wearing a Native American headdress, another, a Sombrero, and their male friend had a hat with fake dreadlocks. None of these individuals were either indigenous, Mexican or of African descent. Wearing other people's cultures as a costume is NEVER OKAY. I am curious why these people were allowed to carry about and / or enter into Canova in the first place? Surely if a patron was being disruptive, fighting etc they would be asked to leave, yes? Cultural appropriation and this level of disrespect is just as harmful. It's violent and it's disruptive. I struggled to get through my meal and couldn't wait to leave. Please ask your staff to do better and not allow blatant forms of racism and ignorance to frolic about in your establishment.

Our first was the Truffle Tagliatelle which I heartily recommend. Delicious subtle flavors, and not so heavy I had to roll myself from the restaurant. The Po' boy's which we tried on our second visit are made from their pizza crust. While they were unlike any Po' boy I'd had before (in truth I thought it was a bit closer to a calzone) they were excellent. The bread chewy and the flavors of cheese and sauce just right to compliment their surroundings. The atmosphere is stellar too, whether inside or out the many tables they offer were pretty full both days of our visit, though the day shift seems to be more about workspace and drinks than food. Still, two really good meals, excellent service both visits. I'd definitely suggest popping in when in the area and giving them a try,
