The crowd goes wild…read more Trust me when I tell you I don't give out an award like this willy-nilly and I am not alone in my opinion. From the first time it touches your lips it is just perfect. Perfect in temperature (not too hot, but stays warm) and flavour (slightly sweet without sugar). This is how it should be done. They do other things well, like their amazing bread that is their own recipe; it is not bought from any supermarket. All the cakes are made by local chefs as well and are delicious. Sourdough Cafe is hidden slightly, down at the far end of St Nick's market, under the glass arcade. I even love the way it looks, with a worn beach wood interior and furniture, you feel like you are sat in a beach hut. It really is so relaxing, even during the hustle and bustle of lunchtime down in St. Nicks. I love it, this place was such a hidden gem, a genuine find, an incredible treat...ok I'll stop...I was the first to review it. I can only hope you all choose not to believe me so I don't have to queue to get my daily coffee fix.

They have done a great job in the way they have set up and decorated the stall; it simply looks like a place that you must stop and at least have a look at the food they have on offer. Besides an outside seating area, you can sit inside too, where it feels like you're having some coffee and cake in someone's kitchen. They used to make a flapjack here that I swear was the king of all flapjacks. It was the most amazing one I'd ever tasted - with caramel and honey holding the oats together, and little yoghurt drops on the top of the flapjack, but sadly a week after I had it, I realised they had stopped making it. From time to time, I've been inconspicuously walking past, peeking if they have brought it back, but perhaps next time I should just stop and beg them to. It really was that good. If that was just the flapjack, I can imagine that everything else here is utterly yummy as well. Try it!

The premise is - you choose your bread, you choose your spread, you choose your fillings and they make it for you. Sounds like Subway? Wash your mouth out you filthy heathen. This is no ordinary sandwich shop, this is a quality, lovely, extra bacon please sandwich shop. Yep, it can be a bit pricey but they stuff the sandwiches so full I actually can buy one sandwich and it lasts me two days, making it much much cheaper than any packaged sandwich. Everything is very fresh and clean, lots of nice crisps and cakes to add onto your order as well and your everyday lunch has suddenly got very interesting. Yum. TOP TIP: If you are ordering lots or just hate queuing, you can order online for any of their shops as long as you do it before 11.30am and you just pick it up at the till at the time you want.

The competition is fierce, but Philpotts on Marsh Street comes top of my list every time. Don't be put off by how busy they get between 12am and 2pm - just remember that they're busy for a reason! Will a fantastic range of freshly prepared fillings to change to, a variety of breads and rolls and tasty crisps and chocolate bars for a lunch time treat you can't go wrong. Philpotts like to give the magic touch: olive oil instead of butter, seasoning on your filling - they put the joy back into the institution of a lunch time sarnie! Check their website for their daily specials, or to pre-book your order before 11:30 am. Once you eat here, you'll be a Philpotts devotee.

Though I've tried to expand my culinary repertoire with vegetables, pulses and fresh fish all I crave is a cup of tea and a biscuit. Which is why Sblended ticks all my boxes. Found at the top of Cabot Circus this milkshake parlour often has gangs of teenagers outside looking all young and intimidating, you know - like they do. But inside there's treats for kids of all ages. The format is simple - pick a flavour (personally, Oreo) and a topping and Bob's your uncle, your fantasy milkshake awaits you. Not the best drink you'll have but a tasty sugar rush if you're lagging while shopping.

It seems that ever since Shakeaway started to do really well as pretty much the only decent milkshake bar loads of other similar types such as Sblended started popping up around the place which are pretty much identical! Sblended is somewhere that offers a large variety of different milkshakes, you basically can choose between any sweet snack you fancy (from skittles to chocolate fudge cake) and they mix this with ice cream and milk to create you a personal shake! I think it's a brilliant idea, and they do taste amazing (I would always recommend the oreo cookie one!), but because I was such a loyal customer to Shakeaway (haha) I always go here instead... The one thing I would say about these places however is that they are overpriced, they charge around £2.50 for a standard sized milkshake which is pretty hefty! They do offer loyalty cards though if you are a fan, and also a student discount of %10 which is worth having. Overall I love my milkshakes and love the variety of these places so I would recommend Sblended to thirsty shoppers especially in the summer months!

Whenever I have visited there has never been any seating, which if you are eating a cheap is a huge inconvience, so unless you want to wear your food for the rest of the day I would suggest avoiding the crepes! I am a fan of the classic savoury options, like cheese and ham with black pepper, but they have sweet crepes that are cheaper and some would say a more natural choice, like the chocolate and cinnamon options etc. You have the most beautiful views of the waterfront sat by this crepe van, and they have a huge selection of different soft drinks, so if you need a quick break and a refuel you should sit here and get yourself fresh crepe made in front of you. The service is friendly enough and the whole process only takes a minute or two.
