The first time I did notice it was when I was walking by and all of a sudden this tiny man started waving at me! This man was no ordinary man, he is 1ft tall and can only move one arm... he is a little model that stands in the window constantley waving! I am glad he was waving because I popped into the shop, brought some beautiful pastries and I was all of a sudden everyone's best friend! It is great to walk into a shop and see evryone smiling, and with Bread Basket that is always the case.

The better thing to do, however, is take your best tweeds to St Pauls (theyre only telling you Montpelier to make you feel safer), turn off Ashley Road on to York Road, and you will see a mischievously graffitied building upon which is daubed the nomenclature of this fantastic establishment. Inside you will see, for a third of the price, the finest collection of baked goodies in all of Bristol. Pick some up. Pay for them. Take them home. Eat them. Even if I'm not hungry I feel I should be supporting them! This one is much more old-school than some others I've come across and I get the impression that they're buying in a lot of their stock. They do sell some nice looking loaves and bloomers but the sweets arise my suspicions. The 'cones', for example, look very old and fading in colour. Similarly the gingerbread men look, well, not so happy. It's a pretty old bakery that's been on the scene for a while. I think they just need a Spring clean, but that aside they're ticking over fine.

The park bakery changed hands a few months back and the new owners have really revitalised the…read moreplace, they've started doing a wider range of breads including sourdough some days and they've also started doing pizzas on a Friday and Saturday night cooked in the bread ovens. The pizzas are all 12inch and range in price from £8.50 for a Margherita up to £10.50 for the Piccante & BBQ Chicken pizzas. What really sets their pizzas apart from your average takeaway pizza is the crispy base and crust from being cooked in the bread oven and the quality of the ingredients used for the toppings - the Piccante we ordered had Napoli sausage, fennel salami and "fior de latte" (proper Italian cows milk mozzarella). Between 4 of us we ordered 2 Piccante pizzas, a Hawaian and a Vesuvio (pepperoni and chilli) all were delicious. The pizzas are takeaway only (no delivery currently) but the plus side of this is that I'll burn off a few calories picking the pizzas up and you can also buy some bread for the morning and pick up some cakes for desert. Very happy to see my local bakery breathing some much needed life back in to St. John's lane!
