If ice cream has a place in your heart, you must visit Don Peppe's Gelati. A recent venture from adjoining Italian restaurant Bottelino's, this ice cream parlour boasts a range of authentic Italian ice creams and sorbets made on the premises. Unlike British and American ice cream, which is egg and custard based, Italian ice cream is made using cream, whole milk, sugar and natural flavourings and so contains less fat and is much lighter. If you want to experience Italy in a cone, I'd strongly recommend you sample the tiramisu flavoured ice cream. For just £1.50, you'll live the Italian cream dream! A multitude of other flavours are also available here.
Although Bedminster Parade may be a far cry from our romantic visions of sun drenched Italian streets, Don Peppe's Gelati is a much needed ray of sunshine in an otherwise drab location. The venue also sells sandwiches, paninis, cakes, milkshakes, teas and coffees, all at competitive prices. So if you're in need of a hit of exoticism and are in the area, Don Peppe's Gelati is the closest you'll come to tasting the Mediterranean sunshine. read more
