    Nectarine slushie
    Paul D.

I've gone to several wineries across the South Jersey area, and I must say that Cedarvale is my favorite! I went here for the first time with a friend of mine and we both felt right at home. The owners, Marsha and Ed, were both extremely nice and always had a smile on their face. We got the strawberry wine, which was excellent! It was the perfect Summer wine. After that, I got a nectarine slushie, which was absolutely amazing. My whole experience there was very personable, which I loved. Overall, I was really impressed with the service, products, and atmosphere of this winery. Don't miss out on this gem hidden in South Jersey!

Walking into Cedarvale is like entering Marsha Gaventa's living room. There's no better place in the area to warm up on a snowy winter day! Upon arrival this afternoon, Marsha greeted us and urged us to take seats. We then started our tasting of their current selection for $5. I was especially excited, as I'm a big fruity, sweet wine drinker and that's a big chunk of their offerings. We began with the 2010 Cabernet Franc (winner of the 2013 Governor's Cup Award for best overall grape wine in the Garden State Wine Growers Competition.) It was deep and dry -- not what I'm used to at all, but it was good! Next was Merlot, which was also exceptional. Now! To my favorite part! Blueberry wine. Cherry wine. Strawberry wine. Nectarine wine. Apple wine. !!!! And yes, there is such a thing as "Nectarine wine." I've heard of peach, but this was a new one for me. I snagged a bottle, as well as bottles of cherry and strawberry, which tasted like they were just picked from the tree/field. Halfway through our tasting, Marsha asked if we wanted to see their production area where her husband Ed was busily working, then animatedly told us all about how they make their wine, which was really neat to hear! I've been to production areas for much larger wineries, but not when it's a two-person operation with the help of friends. To note: They are RIGHT off the Repaupo exit of Route 295. No excuses not to visit. The winery is so easy to find. This was just such a sweet, cozy winery, and I wish them all the luck in the future. Can't wait to go back!

The vintner trusts his gut and handled Chardonnay in a really unique way. Very tart and playful. We brought a bottle of that home alongside the absolutely ridiculous Pumpkin Spice Mulled Wine. Strong reds and whites - which I feel is pretty rare for any vineyard but especially in the PA and NJ area. Usually it's red or whites - both both being solid. Certainly a must visit if in the area. Better and more low key than a lot of vineyards nearby... the hospitality is top notch. Could use slightly larger pours or a larger size tasting flight. A flight amounts to maybe 1.25 glasses of wine. I'd encourage them to be even more distinctive with their varietals. As it stands, they're growing some very unique local varietals. With whites, they're predominantly dry with a hint of lemon (or in the case of the Chardonnay, a burst of lemon). Reds are soft with cherry and vanilla predominantly. There's room for improvement with the reds - possibly growing some bolder varietals to blend with or bottle 100% could bring that change for me. The whites are very good. They also do events in case you're looking for a stellar venue. Good people, good vibe. We'll be back.

While their outdoor space is an excellent feature during warmer weather, I wanted to highlight their winter weekend offerings, which involve various food pairings offered in their cute indoor space (by reservation only!!) My most recent experience was their Wine and Cheese Pairing, which is featured every January. Each year, they curate a combination of local cheese and either honey/jam to pair with their wines, and every year, it's a hit. My favorite pairing this year involved their Pinot Rose, a delicious cheddar, and an orange ginger honey that was absolutely delightful. I also particularly enjoy their wine and cupcake pairing offered every March in partnership with Dia Doce cupcakes --- a highlight of every spring.
