Never before have I had homemade coconut cream pie with mile high meringue as a dessert on a buffet. That was just to finish out the meal. They have fried shrimp, oysters, clams, stuffed shrimp, frog legs, bbq crab, blackened catfish and many other delights on the seafood buffet. I have eaten a many buffets but this was one of the best. What a great place to eat. The food is always fresh. The wait staff is excellent. The desserts are always good.

We ate at the Cedar Tree last Saturday, July 21, 2018, and it was excellent. The crabs, shrimp and fish were cooked perfectly. Whoever does their homemade desserts is as good as my grandmother! I only gave them 4 stars as they are not always consistent, so whoever you have in the kitchen now are keepers. read more

We met here as a family, and so we had a large party of 10. Having never been before, we didn't realize it was a buffet on Sunday. One person in our family has a dairy allergy. We asked the waitress for suggestions on safe foods and she tried to be helpful. She went to ask the manager a few questions for us, and the manager came back to our table. She said "if you can't have dairy my suggestion is you don't eat anything." We had to ask about a few items, like the ham, on our own before she admitted they would be safe to eat. She was completely unwilling to help in any way. read more

THE place to eat when in Jasper. I have eaten here about 10 times while working in the area and every time it is great. I usually get the grilled fish and once got a burger and this last time I got grilled fish with jambalaya on top.... yum! The staff is totally professional for a small town, the rest room clean, the tables are clean and the atmosphere is nice. It is by far the best place I have found to eat in Jasper and will always eat there when in town. I highly recommend eating there and will be back on my next trip. read more

This is a great place if you like fish. The only thing I don't like is their coleslaw is dry. It's like eating cabbage with maybe a taste of something else once in a while. But if you don't eat coleslaw, this is the place for you. read more

As a local let me tell the whole story. The place the ceder tree is now is less 5 years old. The old place was one of the best places to go, had good food, nice wait staff. They had a buffet the people would drive from Beaumont to eat (68 miles away). Then came the move and no more buffet, but food from the kitchen was better than ever. But people stopped drive in from out of town, and in 6 months the buffet was back. Then the problems started. With less people coming the food sat out longer and the quality went down. The buffet now let the kitchen get lazy. Example, had friends from Dallas come down and decided to go here. Group of about 12 so knew it would take some time, but took 2 hours to get food and they were not even happy with how it came out. I went 2 years ago for my anniversary and with just 2 people took 1 1/2 hours to get food and then was even more disappointed with how it came out. After that I stopped going, and anytime a local person talks about the ceder tree it's about why they no long go there. Really sad to me that this is what they are know for now. read more

I eat here on occasion despite always objecting to going. It is usually a friend or family member wants to go for seafood, so I go to keep them happy. Every time I go here though there is something that ruins the experience. Often it is how loud the place can be that kills it. It seems to be the place where the loudest and most obnoxious people dine out. This is not an occasional problem it is an every time problem, and while they can't help it it is something to be aware of. I once had dinner with my parents and brother with his wife and son, and one of the neighboring tables was eating from the buffet. They had very young children that they refused to control. Food was being thrown and a huge mess was being made in the dining area. It was so bad that several other patrons left without even getting a drink ordered. The people should have been asked to leave or control their kids, but the workers just acted like it was a common thing. Other times it is the food, which is nothing special anyway, that is an issue. Almost the entire menu is prefab or frozen concoctions you can purchase from Sysco. There have been times I have has to send back undercooked chicken tenders or catfish. Sometimes I get things that are almost still frozen in the middle. There have been times though that it was mostly a good experience, but the wild inconsistency overwrites them pretty badly. All I can say is go in expecting mediocrity at best, but prepare for the worst. read more

We ate here every time we came to town and we always look forward to it. Just like eating at granny's house. Good oldtime home cooking! The veggies are seasoned to perfection. Great fried catfish, coleslaw and the best fried chicken, mashed taters and gravy. Yummm. And the desserts are heaven. You can even buy a whole pie....if there is any left. My family & I were excited about celebrating my daughter in laws bday here. The buffet has always been wonderful. We've eaten here many times over the years. My son in law had never eaten here & I had him all pumped up about the food. Boy was that an embarrassment to me. The service was lacking, the food even worse. After waiting almost an hour for our food, all the seafood was cold & the steaks were overcooked. Mine tasted like liver. The chicken fried steak was even bad. The appetizers were the only thing fitting to eat. 5 Of the 7 adults barely touched their food. Then, when we were leaving we were going to get ice cream for the 3 babies...the machine was broke...imagine that. However, the waitress did give me a piece of pie and my grandson some banana pudding. That was sweet of her. Sad that we drove an hour one way for such a horrible meal...and after spending almost $200, I won't ever eat there again unless it's a Sunday buffet. I really hate bashing an establishment that normally is good...I guess in my mind, for the money we spent I was expecting a much better experience. read more
