I really miss the original Cedar Tree Sundays in the 90s when I was a kid. The price is right though and food keeps coming out fresh. A little too much salt and not enough meat options. The buffet area itself is too small and the line gets long. You can easily get to the salad or dessert, just not the main food line. But the quality is good. I'm nostalgic so can't go below 4 stars though it doesn't hit 5. Just happy to see the restaurant has survived all these years. read more

I was told barbecue chicken, beef tips, fried fish and fried pork chops. When we got to the buffet bar there was no barbecue chicken.and no beef tips. The fried fish was fried so thin there was mostly fish batter and very little fish, chicken pot pie, a beef stew and something that look like chicken fried steak. The hispanic cooks insisted it was pork chops. There was fried mushrooms, cream corn, rice and gravy, cabbage, blackeye peas that were tasteless and hard, yams with marshmellows and green beans. There were no potatoes. They apparently have new cooks bland food. read more

There were 3 people in our party, and we all enjoyed the buffet. The salad bar, entrees, vegetables, and desserts were all great. The crust on my chocolate pie was a little overdone, so I just ate around it. I've had it in the past though, and it was always delicious. Our waitress was wonderful, kept our drinks filled, and was very friendly. The restroom needed some attention. One stall was out of paper, and another toilet needed to be cleaned. I recommend Cedar Tree, and will be going back when I'm visiting Jasper. read more

And most importantly the good was great!!! I had the 6oz sirloin with Texas cheese fries. The steak was tender and seasoned just right, the cheese fries were good, and the dipping ranch was thick and rich. My husband got chicken fried steak with buttered corn and fries. I'm not a fan of buffets usually but they had a good salad bar and I had the catfish which was lightly breaded and very tasty and the vegetables were good too and I had the coconut cream pie which was also good. And it was only about $11 which was a great deal! I can see why people even drive a distance to come here to eat. read more

Just some FYI. Well we drove an hour and a half to go get ayce snow crab legs at Cedar tree. We get there after calling during the week to be sure they had them to NO snow legs. Other food Was Ok. I tried to treat my parents to a special lunch and was disappointed. They had come here while visiting friends for a number of years but hadn't been in a while. The restaurant was very accomodating as my parents were using walkers but it went downhill from there. The food was ok at best and the service was lackluster. All we wanted was our drinks refilled and it seemed we could never find anyone to tell. I'm not sure if they were shorthanded or distracted but it didn't work for us. Family and Friends gathered at the Cedar Tree for the repast of our loved one. The room was ready but the food wasn't. Once ready the seafood was delicious. I usually don't eat buffets but I am glad I did. Everything was fresh and piping hot. My favorite was the fried oysters. The BBQ crabs were salty for my taste. Everyone bragged on the gumbo but I didnt try it. Another waitress would have been nice but the 3 we had were very good. Went for lunch and just got the chicken tenders with fries. Was thinking that I would get some good size tenders but they were on the smaller side and only got 3. BUT they were really good and burn your mouth hot! The fries filled 3/4 of the basket and were fresh and also burn your mouth hot and delicious. I went there at the suggestion of the hotel clerk. The restaurant was nice and very clean, at first I thought I might be under dressed in my traveling t-shirt and shorts but the diners had a range of attire, shirts and ties to t-shirts and shorts. I ordered a rib eye steak with steamed broccoli. The salad was pretty good, better than the usual comes with meal salad. The steak was cooked a little more than medium well but not the well done state. I was surprised to see some one in the kitchen had cut into the steak to check how it was cooked. Rib eyes usually have some fat in them but this one seemed to have more than usual, there was a pile of trimmed fat about the size of a deck of cards on my plate when I was finished. It did have a good flavor to it. The steamed broccoli was fresh, hot, and cooked the way I like it; cooked but still a little snap. The worst part of the meal was the roll, it was very hard and dried out. Since I don't need the carbs that turned out okay because it kept me from eating it. If you wanted bread with your meal you would have been disappointed. With tip the meal came to $20 and some change, I did drink water so I don't know what their beverage prices are like. When I was looking at the menu the prices seemed about right for the type of establishment. The service was pretty good, there were not many people there due to the time but my glass never got past half empty before it was refilled but at the same time the waitress wasn't interrupting the meal with constant "Do you need anythings?" read more
