When my son was about 10 months old, I was unexpectedly offered a job opportunity I couldn't pass up. It started in a week and would require my son to go to his first daycare. I was terrified. I first wanted a "center" setting because I was scared of home daycares, but a friend recommended Cedar Street, and our four-year relationship with Auntie Jo began. Going there was the next best thing to my son being home with me all day (probably better because he was bored with me by the time he was a year old). He loved his little buddies, his time outside, his inside fun, and he stayed on the eating and sleep schedule we'd finally gotten in place. When I went into labor with my second son, Auntie Jo was the person who kept my firstborn safe and comfy until 9:00 that night when his grandparents arrived. All the things I worried about in daycare--my son's safety and happiness, sleep schedules, flexibility, reliability (in times of sickness and snow)--were relieved by Joelle. It's been two years since my last son outgrew Cedar Street, but my youngest still points to Auntie Jo's road when we drive by and asks to visit. read more
