If I could give a zero I would. I can't blame the wait staff and I didn't punish them on their tip. Here's how our dinner went... 1. We ordered 3 appetizers for our party of 6. 2. Appetizers come out with no plates, no silverware. 3. All the waitress has is plastic forks, 3 plates (1 was dirty) and 3 bowls (1 was dirty and we didnt need bowls they were out of clean plates) 4. Waitress had dropped a mushroom appetizer on the floor and said another one was coming but it never did. 5. Food comes out. My husband ordered gator. The waitress told him they ran out of gator would he like to order some shrimp to go with the gator they brought. It was apparent the gator was from the bottom of the bag as it was pieces about as big as a dime. 6. I asked to speak to the manager as we were leaving. I explained to her what had happened. All she said was that they were busy and kept asking who our waitress was and where did we sit. I told her the service was fine it wasn't the wait staffs fault. We had several different waitresses through the ordeal. Not once did macnagement apologize for anything. Most of these issues are managements fault and not one word of apology was given. When I pay $15-17 for a plate of food I don't expect to be served plastic forks to eat with. read more

Not tasty. Everything fried tastes the same. No seasoning. Chicken tenders and fries taste like they were fried in the same oil as the seafood. Hadn't been here in many months due to poor taste in food. We came back because folks told us they had changed. Well, they did not change. I don't even think the scallops are actually scallops. Never tasted scallops like this nor seen any with this consistency. Our service was fine, she's very friendly and knows how to wait a table. Went there on Mother's Day. Our waitress was so rude. Waited 20 minutes for service. Then 45 mintes for our food. It was tasteless. The fish had no flavor. Just the breading. The food is definitely over priced for the quality you receive. I've been there several times and every time my food is overcooked. Also, the staff at the entrance of the restaurant are not very happy or enthusiastic when you walk in. It's almost as if they don't want to be there. Came in today to celebrate my birthday, five of us. The service & food was excellent. We all ordered one of the lunch specials. I got the trio special ( shrimp, scallops & flounder fillet with baked potato & cole slaw ). All our food was served piping hot. They did forget to give us hush puppies. Oh Yelp, you led me so very far astray on this one. It is pretty run down and unclean on the inside. Clearly a local joint, which is usually a good thing, but we did feel like we were crashing the local retirement home cafeteria. And the food...after a forty minute wait I received the driest piece of fish I've ever tried to eat. And a bit funky tasting (I ordered the blackened tilapia). I can eat anything, but this was totally inedible. Most of the sides were good though and my companion's fried flounder was okay. Service was nice but really slow. Overall, I'd say skip this place. It really is a low end, low quality fish fry type of place. Even if you hate fast food, that'd still be a better choice in Starke. read more

I've known Cedar River Seafood for a while. They've been around for some time, in and around Jacksonville. Given the familiarity I stopped here with the wife passing through what cannot be considered a thriving metropolitan area. We chose wisely. Stuffed mushrooms, great. Deviled crabs, spot on. Fried calamari perfectly cooked, but they don't serve the tentacles. Fried shrimp, some of the best I've eaten, and I eat a metric ton annually. But the real standout for me was the lowly side of green beans, out effing standing. The gals working were super nice and the place is clean. What's not to like? Why not the fifth star? I couldn't wait to pay and leave this restaurant. While there is some cute decor, it's a bit dirty. The radio had apparently broken a couple weeks ago, so it was creepily quiet. I could hear conversations 5 tables away which made us want to stay quiet. I felt out of place, and I agree with another reviewer that it felt like crashing a retirement home cafeteria. The service was good. The waitresses were all friendly and they offered everyone to go drinks which I love. The food was hit or miss. The I scallops and hush puppies were good. Drove by this place and we wanted to try it out from what we saw and heard people said this place was pretty good. I wasn't to disappointed either. I got the blackened grouper, it was pretty good not the best I have had it was a little dry. The guys I went with got the gator and and the fried shrimp and the gator was really tough but the shrimp was excellent. The breading tasted wonderful. I would try this place again if I come back into town or if I get a chance again while I am still here. read more

Stopped for lunch on 2/21/15. I had the fried Tilapia and Cheese grits. The fish was very good. Unfortunately the grits were cold, and had to be sent back to be reheated (this is a problem with all Cedar Rivers). Almost had more cheese than I did grits. My wife's clam strips were greasy and not breaded very well. Decor is out dated and has not been changed since we ate there 15+ years ago. Keep driving! read more

I've lived by Starke my whole life and have never been here. Surprised bc this place is actually really good! The only reason I'm not giving it a 5 star is bc the decor...brings back my childhood bc it's so old. Even the cups... it reminds me of my grandparents. The waitress Paula was good. Not very lively tho. The calamari was average but not chewy which is a plus. The lobster bisque was way to fishy. The fried Shrimp was amazing as well as the puppies. One entree had about 25 good sized shrimp so you could split one simply with left overs remaining. The pricess were wonderful, overall I would definitely refer a friend. read more

We ate in Cedar River Seafood in Starke Fl for lunch today Sat April 7,2018 We had the lunch special Shrimp and Flounder it was very small the Flounder was so small it was about three small bites I think there were six or seven Shrimp We have ate at this restaurant and the one in Gainesville many times but this was pathetic the sides were good and the Hush Puppies too. We recently moved to the area from Virginia and have been wanting to try this place. Stopped in about 7:30 on a Friday night, there weren't many people and we we seated right away. A server took our drink order and we waited for nearly 10 minutes for our drinks to come back, they were brought by a different server who would be our waitress. We places our order and waited. I ordered a salad which came quickly. The red onions on the salad were the ends of the onion or root part that you don't eat. After picking those out I took a few bites and discovered rotten brown lettuce in the middle of the salad. Not just lettuce that was a little brown, but actual mushy rotten lettuce! We waited for the waitress to come back so that I could send the salad back, but after nearly 20 minutes we still hadn't seen her or any other waitress. After 30 minutes we decided to leave. They were kind enough to not make us pay for my husband's ice tea. The ladies bathroom was dirty and there was paper towels and toilet paper all over the floor. The table next to ours sat with dirty plates and food the whole time we were there, no one bussed it. I will never eat here and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone! The only ingredients in the taco were iceburg lettuce (ew) and packaged shredded cheddar cheese, so the meal was essentially flavorless. The taco "dressing" on the side was packaged sour cream. The hush puppies were average, but sadly perhaps the best food of the early evening. The salad was boringly blah, but the broiled shrimp on top were ok. The flounder fillet was good and plentiful, but there should have been info provided on the menu that read "spicy." The pole beans were greatly overcooked and sat in grease. The mashed sweet potato didn't taste fresh; I can only guess it was from a can. It was also overly sweet and thick. The unsweetened iced tea was good, and our waitress was friendly. Since there were virtually no customers at dinnertime, the three waitresses pulled out all empty booths & cleaned behind them as we ate a few feet away. Until 7-14-11 I had made reservations 5 days in advance for 7:00 on this day, upon our arrival @6:30 to decorate we were met at the front entrance by a rude lady Paula and she told us our area was given to someone else mind you who did not have.reservations and that we had to wait until they left. Ok, fried food is common everywhere, but we all know the batter makes a difference. The truth really is, how clean is the seafood before battered? Lazy restauRants mask their food with heavy battered, quality resturants believe the batter is an enhancer to tbeir fresh seafood. Ok, long explanation to say that the flounder, catfish and grouper where SO CLEAN! We had them fried, blackened and broiled, wonderful. Worth the money! The shrimp, blakened, and fried were cleaned, and butterflied. Oh boy, the hush puppies are Dessert, the baby limas are like my mamaws and the cheese grits are perfect. If u are a mayo loving slaw person, you'll be in heaven. If u order the fried okra, tell them extra crispy or they will serve them light brown with slimy middle.
